For once not a single one, a clip show? Not my thing...
ReplyDeleteI wasn't diggin the clip show style either... It also didn't have the same feel as a regular blacklister episode.

ReplyDeleteRed confessing he hired Tom, but Tom betrayed him by working for Berlin after getting emotionally involved with Liz. Nice to have my suspicions confirmed since The Blacklist so rarely gives any concrete answers!
Although now I do wonder exactly what Red hired Tom to do!
- Protect her?
- Keep tabs on Liz to see what she recalls about her past?
- Program her to help her recall where The Fulcrum is?
- Program her to keep her in the dark about her past?
Good points! And it is nice to get some concrete answers, albeit with more questions popping up...

I'm guessing a mix of all the things you said.
The Dembe scene left a bigger impression on me the second time I watched the episode... I like seeing a bit more of Dembe's personal side or at least hearing him speak occasionally! XD
ReplyDelete" I Suck..." added something to the ridiculous thought that a special counsel judge would ask so many obviously classified questions and not expect to be arrested? I must have missed that part where a federal judge gets to arraign witnesses without a grand jury indictment. heck this guy even threatened two directors with contempt or court. Next day that judge would find himself in Guantanamo accused of interference with an ongoing federal investigation . Evidence: a bullet from a gun through a man not dead and not telling what happened. Like an agent never shot a man to gather evidence. The case is over a man killed not by that bullet or the agent in question but by a phantom killer presumed dead. Second best line "You have the right to an attorney but if you ask for an attorney I will find for the prosecution and trial will begin." That was a laugher as it is grounds for an appeal and disbarment, Miranda and Unreasonable search and seizure. The Attorney General would have a field day with such a comment. That would make a President or any official coerce able which ain't happening. One need only look back to cases where under cover operatives identities have been publicized to see how likely this case would ever be to happen. The person making the issue would end up in prison. If anyone has a case otherwise please name it. I know the Administration fight every attempt to gather classified information
ReplyDeleteSpy on her and report her activity. Same thing Berlin was using Tom for with Red, wondering what he was up to and if Red killed Berlin's daughter. Problem was not that Tom got too close to Lizzie but that she got too close to Tom such that red could not just kill Tom. He had to get Lizzie to fell it was her idea which is pretty much what happened up to a point. Now it seems that Tom can serve a purpose either dead or alive, most likely dead as that would get Lizzie off the stand and Tom as well. End of investigation. But what if they fake the death? Everyone walks and Tom already a ghost gets to work for Red for real. red could still kill him one day or Lizzie could, perhaps even Dembe who in my opinion knows too much at this point like the judge and the stenographer. I am in a Machiavellian mood. Kill them all,
ReplyDeleteOne week he is letting his guard down and the next he is a chatter box, on in the head one in the heart and one in the groin to make sure he is dead. I think it would shock people if that happened, letting Tom take out Dembe perhaps. Wondering why in the palace Dembe was only stunned and not shot. You do not leave a killer alive to dome after you later unless he works for you. Simple Machiavellian logic. eliminate the lose ends.
ReplyDeleteI had not thought of Tom getting emotionally involved being a problem from Liz's perspective.. I like that angle! It does complicate things more than Red needed or wanted.

I agree that Red needs to cover his ass, but I don't think killing everyone who knows something works. As a safety precaution I can see the logic, but as a business model it seems like a bad idea.
There is a sweet spot between people not acting against you out of fear of repercussion and people thinking they need to act because you are too unstable or too volatile. I think Red is aware that indiscriminate killing is bad for business...
I am sure it was a mixture of things. That scene with Red and Tom at the hospital still bugs me though. They didn't pretend not to know each other in the episode where Red tells tom never to see Liz again. I just don't get the dog and pony show of that scene.
ReplyDeleteThe killing is not indiscriminate. It is strategic and in this battle of the 1000 knives atmosphere a climactic necessity. Think of every Godfather movie and of Romeo and Juliet. Killing to remove a bloodline or vendettas are common strategy. Red has played the long con for 25 years already, he has to consider the short game and take out the people most likely to kill his loved ones who are his "Fulcrum". Lizzie most of all. She is a level that can be taken advantage of to kill Red and others as Berlin proved, Madeline proved , Luther Proved and Fitch Proved. Lizzie was following in Red's footsteps without knowing it, Military and then Intelligence. That meant people would do a background check on her. Conveniently she marries Tom Keen and places another level of anonymity between her and her real identity as Masha (Russian for Maria). Assume Tome was sent ina s a spy and Cover to find out what other asked Lizzie and to make Lizzie seem settled and secure, but the news that came back was not that good , so Red comes out of hiding to deflect the attacks even more. He in Machaivellian fashion brings in Lizzie and brings in Fitch and the Syndicate even closer to make them think he is doing business for his safety when in fact he is killing them one by one and protecting Lizzie until Berlin goes for a vendetta of his own and tries to attack Lizzie through Tom. Tom's cover had to be blown in similar fashion to Red to get Berlin out of the picture and expose the Octoberist (Fitch) who was the one who kidnapped Berlin's child and blamed it on Red. It is at this point that Red tests Lizzie to see if she is ready to follow dear old dad and kill Tom as he is now a fulcrum against Lizzie. They can always use him to get to her. She does not kill him but unlike Lizzie Tom would kill to protect her in a blink. You think I am too willing to kill, tell it to the Harbor Master. Then reexamine many of the cases so far where people are being trained to be assassins, couriers and spies. What if the chip to the fulcrum can be found in parts in three people. Nice scar in Lizzies wrist, They wanted Red's Head. Lizzies Mother is presumed dead as is her father but is she? Red is hunting for clues in his kill list. Those clues lead to syndicate members. The closer he gets to one the more likely he/she is to be killed. he is also finding clues to where Lizzies mother may be. Last one was the song playing on the radio of the Presidential limo. A copy of the limo Kennedy used but not the original as can be seen from the rear. Then comes the phone number which lead to a bloody chair. As Red seems to know much it is interesting he does not know the team is bugged. He uses them to trace the call and the callee is killed. Was that what Red wanted? or not? I am of the belief it does not matter in what order his enemies fall. But AT some point the syndicate will act as one and then it will make a difference. At that point you want them all in one place at one time to kill them all. And who is to say the president is not in the group? I amhoping he is. A Prime minister is and who know how many foreign dignitaries. Yes kill them all and kill Dembe because he knows to much about Lizzie and Tom and it is likely he will be turned.
ReplyDeleteI hate clip shows, but I was floored that Ressler participated in a kidnapping. That was so epic it made the episode tolerable. WHY couldn't we see more of that? him getting to that point or dealing with it after the fact. For him to do that, and go against his morales/FBI training shows how much he's changed while working for/with Red. Ressler is my favorite character and anytime he has scenes with Red, they're golden. I love the idea of them working on something and grudingly getting closer. I can see that he and Red care for Liz and will do just about anything for her. This is made of win. I also love anything and everything Keenler they sizzle and spark and all that good stuff.
