Somewhere between good and great for me. Very enjoyable, but not something I liked so much that I'd go out of my way to recommend it to someone. But I do think I enjoyed it enough to give Season 2 a shot.
Caught the first episode on a whim, 5 hours later, I'm done. I loved it. I can't believe how in love I fell with Kimmy's character. I get the Liz Lemon vibe in her, but the character is, I don't know, more earnest and innocent in her intentions, with no hint of the semi jaded/cynical beat that Liz could give off at times (not that that is bad, Liz Lemon is one of the best sitcom characters ever).
For a show with such a dark subject matter as its underpinning, I was shocked at how well they pulled off the balance of being funny while still acknowledging Kimmy's tragic past.
Kimmy is just so absolutely adorable and genuine, you can't help but fall in love with her and root for her every step of the way. Eagerly awaiting another season of this gem.
And that theme song! Catchy as all hell! Written by Youtube personalities if I remember. Way to go.
I was only able to catch the first ep, and although I did see some potential with some of the characters, it came across a bit too manic feeling, but I will try another couple of eps to see if there's enough improvement to keep me. I do like Jane K, and Ellie K a lot so I hope so.
I thought it was hilarious. Of course it is going to have similarities to 30 Rock since Tina Fey wrote it and writers have a certain voice to their work. But I watched the whole season in 1 day and laughed out loud each episode. Hopefully there will be a season 2. Maybe if this show takes off ambitious comedies/shows like this will abandon networks and just go straight to netflix.
I've only managed to watch the first 5 episodes (work got in the way) but I fall in love with show more and more with each episode! Kimmy is hands down one of the most likable characters I have ever gotten to know and so damn quotable,"Hash brown no filter". Not to mention all the pop culture references which I can't get enough of. "I'm sorry but someone your age can't enroll in middle school" "But Billy Madison did"; "End of Breakfast Club" "I know what it is". How can you NOT love her?! Overall, this show is so damn adorable and has a lot of heart and I can't wait to continue my binge watch. Already obsessed with the show. OH! Titus and Jacqueline are also just the best.
"Unbreakable! They alive, dammit! It's a miracle! Females are strong as hell!" I literally had this song stuck in my head all day while I was at work XD It's so freaking catchy, it's insane.
It's enjoyable, but nothing special. The cast is exceptional, but some of the supporting players aren't given much to work with other than a gag or two per episode and being a stereotype.
The plot's a little too fast-paced in some places (especially the pilot!), and I wish there was more focus on Kimmy's mole sisters and serious involvement from her family.
As tonally perfect as it is, I cannot stand that opening theme.
I like it enough to continue watching, but not enough to ever consider doing a re-watch, and probably not to recommend it to anyone. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt's also probably not a show that I'll be thinking about much once I finish it. I sincerely doubt I'd participate in any fandom. That said, unless the second-half of the season disappoints me, I'll likely quietly come back for the second season.
Love it. Great writing, unique premise, hilarious cast.. really easy to watch, and there really are rapid-fire jokes so you're always laughing. Got 3 more to go today.
Watched the whole thing and I did enjoy it, it's incredibly quotable, particularly Tituss! A few things I didn't like though: The last few episodes going back to the bunker - didn't find it very funny and it felt forced keeping Jane K involved (which they had to, as she's one of the strongest cast members), plus where did the hot tutor boyfriend disappear to?! Ditching Jane K's kids from the show seemed strange and sudden. Her non-father and sister are a weak link in the show. Hopeful for S2 though, as Ellie and Tituss are brilliant leads and there's plenty of good stuff to work with.
Really enjoyed this series! Episode 7 (Grandma Croak - Murder) and the finale (KARATE!, KARATE!, JUJITSU!) were my favorite episodes. My favorite scenes were any with Kimmy/Xann (step - daughter), Kimmy/Jacklyn (wife), Kimmy/Titus (black - gay roommate), and Carol Kane (Gotham - Penguin's mom) was pretty funny. The season was loaded with memorable quotes and Kimmy's "curse words" are hilarious (lol)! 4 UNBREAKABLE KIMMY VS. THE AVENGERS, I am Nobody!!!
Just finished the season and all I can say is that I need season 2 in my life right now please. It's insane how much I'm obsessed with this show. Jon Hamm as Richard Wayne Gary Wayne? Tina Fey as the Mole Womens lawyer, Marcia?! I was in heaven. And I was shocked when it was revealed that Dong had married their classmate, Sonja and that Titus had a wife all along! And that whole bit with Lillian and Jacqueline driving to Durnsville was comedy gold. Go home, Jacqueline! That's where you'll truly find yourself. God, that finale was so damn perfect and I'm eagerly awaiting season 2.
I love this show! Tina Feys influence is obvious throughout. The first episode was a little rough but the remaining 12 episodes were golden! I binge watched the whole season and am really looking forward to a season two. It's very very well written!
I just finished the season yesterday, and I loved it. I liked the recurring theme of becoming "unbreakable" and taking control of your own life. Ellie Kemper is perfect in the role. I ADORE Titus Andromedon, he's just a riot.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Downloaded the whole season but gave up after watching the first three episodes. Not for me. :(
ReplyDeleteIt was great. Few hiccups here and there but overall enjoyed the show. Great fit for Netflix as I felt it was better for binge watching.
ReplyDeleteI think the first seven to eight episodes were great. The ninth and tenth were not all that great to me. Stopped there
ReplyDeleteIt's actually pretty good so far. Tina Fey has done it again.

ReplyDeleteJon Hamm was awesome. Hopefully his character pops up again down the road
ReplyDeleteAmazingly funny !! I loved every sec of it !! Favorite character is the black gay lol
ReplyDeleteCouldn't stop watching today. Completely fell in love with this comedy!
ReplyDeleteNever doubt Tina Fey!
Gonna try it tomorrow... :)

ReplyDeleteYour in luck. Season 2 ordered by Netflix before season 1 started. So it a guarantee!

ReplyDeleteThanks for the news!
ReplyDeleteI've only done six episodes so far.

i'm only 8 episodes in but I love it! Ellie Kemper is perfect in this role and I can't get enough of Titus

ReplyDeleteI am loving it! Funny, brilliant and with an amazing cast.
ReplyDeleteWell done, Netflix
NBC missed out on an amazing comedy.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad Netflix picked it up and is giving us 2 seasons!!

ReplyDeleteI can't help but think UKS turned out great because it didn't end up on NBC.
ReplyDeleteFinally finished it and totally loved it. Ellie Kemper was outstanding as Kimmy.
ReplyDeleteI just saw the first episode last night. I thought it was great.
ReplyDeleteBut.... it bothers me the Ellie Kemper can be so awkward but dance so well.

ReplyDeleteOoh thanks! I did not know that!
