Good start to the series I thought. The first episode is a bit slow, set ups general are though and it is a large cast to introduce after all. I like Ross and Demelza together, Jud and Prudie the servants are fab and I think George has potential to be a great baddie.
Looking forward to seeing where it goes from here :)
I think it's worth a shot, as long as you're not expecting too much action and craziness. It's more of a slowburn, costume drama, great acting with a gorgeous backdrop/scenery as almost an extra character in the show itself. There's the occasional brawl or fight, a lot of dodgy unhanded dealing and then there's also the added pleasure of a lot of a very sexy Aidan Turner brooding on clifftops or stripping off and getting sweaty in the fields ;) lol
Thank you for sharing all this info about the show. I will definitely give it a shot tomorrow when I clear my schedule. I love costume dramas and it's been ages since I last saw one. It's the perfect timing. Imagining Aidan broodling on a clifftop is giving me some major Heathcliff feels.
Oh yeah, many of the magazines have been naming him the new Heathcliff, lol. This season is only 8 episodes, but they hoping it will take off and then they'll film the rest of the books and onwards too. There's some great stuff to come up ;)
Hmm, this show does sound interesting and I like period shows, but I think I'm going to wait until it's 2-3 episodes in and then binge it. Slow first episodes are not my thing, and with BBC costume drama shows/miniseries I am a lot more likely to stick with shows when I can watch several episodes together. I watched the 2011 version of Great Expectations this weekend, and yeah, definitely would not have gone past the first episode if I didn't have the other 2 downloaded and ready.
Its a nice fit for a Sunday. Bit of a slow starter but I can see it going places. I hadn't heard of it before either; neither book nor TV show so its all new for me. One thing though, I loved Aidan Turner in Being Human and don't get me wrong, he is great in this role but he does nothing for me?! Perhaps I only fancy vampires. Lol.
I enjoyed the first episode. I loved the story first time round and it still holds a lot of appeal. The one thing that struck me most is how gorgeous the scenery shots were. I think I might have to go to Cornwall at one point. Apart from that it is always sunny there. ;) I think the writers did a good job introducing the characters to us. I always like Phil Davies (loved him in High Chapel) and the rest of the cast (unknown to me, I admit) did a fine job, too. From a very personal point of view I find Aiden Turner just a little bit too smooth, but I'm sure that many others will love him. I really liked the first meeting between Ross and Demelza and the resulting problems. Certainly will continue watching!
That was a slow start. I enjoyed the view (Aidan + Cornwall) and found Demelza absolutely adorable, but there wasn't much happening considering the length of the episode. I'm not sold on the series yet, but I'll watch another episode.
I really enjoyed it. I knew nothing of Poldark before this and now I'm hooked on the story. I've downloaded the first book and I'm taking it to the beach in 2 weeks!!! Cornwall is breathtaking...the cliffs... the water. Beautiful!
I watched it a couple of hours ago and I'm already hooked. For some reason I thought Ross would be investigating murders. LOL I know nothing about the books.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

Loved it!
ReplyDeleteHI, Sandi! :)
ReplyDeleteSo, you're recommending this show? I'm already watching a lot of shows but I could squeeze one more if it's good.
Hey there Zemira :)

Thanks Sandy very helpfull, I'll definitly give it a shot ;-)
ReplyDeleteAll I know is I'm in love with Aiden Turner and his sexy voice!
ReplyDeleteHow many episodes will this have: 6, 8, 10? I ask because maybe I should just wait until it's over to watch it all together...
ReplyDeleteVery average. Whilst I didnt fall asleep watching it, the storylines they introduced were trope.
ReplyDelete8.
ReplyDeleteEarly morning here. Just watched some of it. Will watch it later tonight. One thing I will say is that it's beautifully shot.
ReplyDeleteI'm already Team Demelza but I never read the novels. So, I'm totally in the dark.
ReplyDeleteI'm beyond impressed by the landscapes.
All of them, by the way. Hello, Aidan Turner, hello again. George has written bad stuff all over his face.
p.s.: Is it okay to post gifs or not, by the way? I never ask and maybe I should have ;-)
Demelza > Elizabeth here too, though I like both of the actresses - I understand that the original Elizabeth in the '70s was universally loathed! lol.
ReplyDeleteGifs are fine by me :)
A binge watch could be good.
ReplyDeleteThat's one reason I rewatch Being Human far too often for my own good, lol
ReplyDeleteIt was rather good :)
ReplyDeleteI saw one tweet that referred to some shots being an oil painting, hard to disagree with that. They are very proud of the coastline down that way, lol
ReplyDeleteCool, I hope you enjoy :)
ReplyDeleteUniversally loathed? We'll maintain the tradiction alive and kicking, then. Too much self-centered, maybe?
ReplyDeleteI'm not normally into romantic dramas but I'm simply in love with British dramas. Sunday evenings are going to be very fun for a little while ;)

I think Poldark will be just what the doctor prescribes....to soothe our broken hearts. (Musketeers heart)
ReplyDeleteDon't think Poldark could ever replace my musketeers. Even though the bbc clearly favors Poldark. I hope the next episode is better though.
ReplyDeleteI watched it a couple of hours ago and I'm already hooked. For some reason I thought Ross would be investigating murders. LOL I know nothing about the books.
ReplyDeleteJust finished it. Liked it. Not a fan of triangles but considering the gorgeous setting, time period and good characters, I may go along with it. :)
