I'm not sure how I felt about this. Started off rather light and comedic and action-packed, pretty much thought I knew where the story was going then WHAM! We get a dark tested disturbing tale of kid abduction and murder that NO ONE saw coming. This was the TWIST of all twists. H50 usually throws us curveballs but this was more than that. I really would never have predicted the way this story ended..ever.
I found the end very incongruous to the start and middle…way to keep me on my toes. I started the ep all giddy and excited and ended pretty disturbed. Not sure how I feel about that. I guess H5O did their show because this is one episode I won't soon forget.
I didn't mind it, but I don't like when the team is all over the place and NO Danno again!!! I'm getting pretty tired of Scott Caan being absent. If you're get paid millions to be in a TV show, and you know the fans love you on it, and it not for the rest of your life, and you signed a contract, suck it up and do your job! I love Scott, but I'm getting frustrated. I've NEVER watched a show with one of the TWO main actors missing 3 or 4 episodes and hardly in some others. I really wish my enjoyment of #H50 didn't depend so much on the Steve/Danny Bromance, but I can't help what I enjoy. I've rarely rewatched any of the episodes that Scott has missed, but I'll watch the other episodes over and over and over. :(
Look Scott has a child now who lives in LA with his girlfriend. They're not planning to move to hawaii that I know of. So he flies home one week a month to see them which means he doesn't see them 3 weeks a month!…I'm happy for the episodes he's in because he nails it every time. As long as he continues to be part of this show, I don't care that it's only in 3/4 episodes. It would be far worse if he wasn't in it. And I'm glad CBS and H5O were able to negotiate that with him so that everyone's happy.
I know. I'm just pouting! haha I'm disappointed that we have to wait 3 weeks for a new episode and Danno wasn't in tonight. I wish that could have at least put him in a scene at the end with Steve.
I was searching to find out why Scott has been so absent this season, so I'm glad I found out why here. That said, this is very much like Richard Dean Anderson on Stargate SG-1. There's really no reason why they can't film a couple of scenes with Scott in advance and plug them in so that he's not completely missing. If RDA could do it (and for much the same reason), Scott and the producers could do it here!
I miss Scott in the show too but he has a baby now and flys home to be with his baby and girlfriend. He has his priorities and its obvious his baby comes first.
I know he got a kid and wife but there are billions of people all over the world who have to work away from family but it's a job and he could be out of work? I'm sure his wife could accommodate her husband by going over there for a week or two now and again if that's his job? I love the show and Danno especially but the banter from the first season and that is disappearing. What does his wife do for a living?
Even tho this episode didn't have Danny in it i thought it was very good. It isn't very often where you see the emotional side to Steve but when he was going through the pictures his face he conveyed the agony and heartbreak knowing what these kids went through. What a sad and powerful ending...
If he has it in his contract then yes he can be out of work and go home to be with his kid and girlfriend. Do you have any idea what its like to travel with a baby and what one would have to take with them just for a day let alone traveling a few thousand miles for a week or so?. Its not just pampers and a few bottles. Even if she was to come over with the baby she would be alone for 12 to 17 hours a day whereas she probably has friends and family in Ca.Makes more sense for him to travel to them.
I do have kids yes and I do know what it's like, that's my point....all the money he is on and the support/ child care they can receive think they would manage lol.
He left for his daughter, which made all the sense in the world, but the year before he left, they had a crazy shooting schedule. That was my point in bringing RDA up, that he did a lot of filming that was spliced into shows to accommodate his off-show times. Unrelated to 5-0, the funny part about the RDA and his daughter thing is that a few years later, it was his daughter who told him he needed to go back to work (in other words, Daddy, get out of my hair; I need space lol).
I don't know if logistically it's possible to do that for 5-0. It takes 8 days to shoot one episode incl. stunt work plus set-up and tear down and any explosions that occur…it'd be great but given what they already cram into an episode, may be a logistical nightmare.
It's a crazy schedule and it's not easy, but it can be done. It just takes planning. Other shows have done it as well. Totally agree that it's difficult, but it's definitely not impossible if you have a good planner to work it out. :}
So predictable, even though i didn't have any idea danny was going be absent in this episode,i was not surprised to see it come true anyway. This is really irritating!
I loved the counterbalance between Jerry's humorous predicament and Steve's ultra-violent one. Also loved the slow beginning with Steve getting a shave--and, yes, he WOULD leave his phone in his truck for a little bit of relaxing down time!--and seeing the relationship between him and Odell evolve. After all the back and forth between humor and action, the twist at the end with Steve's discovery of the killer's lair and photos was INCREDIBLE! A roller-coaster episode with a jolting conclusion. One of the best ever! (And didn't even miss whiny, bickering Danny!)
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

That was a great episode. And oh no, poor Steve. Has he finally hit his breaking point? Wouldn't be surprised if he did.

ReplyDeleteI agree. I love this show no matter what!
ReplyDeleteI love Steve for his looks of course but for his personality, bravery and his vulnerability. What a gifted actor
ReplyDeletewhy is he breaking down? PTSD?

ReplyDeleteRichard Dean Anderson left the show to be with his kid and also because of his knee.

ReplyDeleteThe worst episod ever for me
ReplyDeleteWould not be surprised at all if it was that.
ReplyDeleteScott's girlfriend used to work on Five-0 in some capacity. She moved back to California.

ReplyDeleteYes, I loved that scene, it reminded me of of when the team rescues him after he kills Wo Fat and he asks to see his father.
ReplyDeleteI liked this episode. But missed Scott Caan, playing the Danny Wlliams role. Hope he will be appearing in the last few episodes of season 5.
