I was surprised how light this week's episode was on the Juliette / Hexenbiest stuff. The CotW was so-so but I liked all the stuff going down at the spice shop.
The Grimm writer's were not good enough to execute the subject of dissociate personality disorder. It felt a bit gimmicky, I was uncomfortable with Nick shooting a woman with a crossbow and the image of the man wriggling on the floor in a dress seemed a bit tasteless. I guessed the dual gender quite early on. I take it that the Buffy/Angel actor was unhappy with his pointless role and that is why he has left without a proper exit scene.
Last week I had sympathy for Juliette, but this week... None at all!
I can understand needing time alone or time away from Nick (even if I disagree with that mindset on so many levels), but to not accept Nick's calls, sleep in your car instead of going to a friend's or getting a hotel room... and then end up at Renard's makes it inexcusable. Worse yet, she did not go there to inquire about wtf his mom did to her, but to ask for a place to stay.... Just pathetic to me.
The Wessen COTW was mediocre at best to me... I thought both actors were barely palatable and the entire story felt odd. It was obvious from the first meeting that it was both genders so the build up to the reveal and the reveal itself were lackluster.. Hormones that can take effect instantly? Maybe it's a Weseen thing... Sigh.
Glad to be getting a new royal! I never liked Victor much even though I like Alexis Denisof in most roles. Let's hope this one makes a power play and reveals more information connected to the myth arc! I want to know about the royals ultimate plan and those damned keys - NOT the baby... No, babies! Ugh!
Calling all Aswangs..
I liked the connection of the team with Wu around. He is fitting in nicely with Team Grimm!
Not my favorite episode. Also, I'd like to understand how Stacy's dress, maybe size 6, morphed into a size 14 or something to fit her body as she changed. A little nitpick, but made the episode hard to believe.
This felt a bit like a filler episode, but I still enjoyed it. Juliette going to Renard will definitely create tension between Renard and Nick, but I understand why she did it. Dealing with becoming a Hexenbiest can't be easy, so I can't blame her for wanting to be around someone like her (I laughed when Renard got irritated at being called a Hexenbiest) . Plus, the only other local Hexenbiests that Juliette knows are Adalind and Henrietta, so the pickings were definitely slim. I love Henrietta, but she does not strike me as the hospitable or comforting type...especially given her tendency to enjoy delivering bad news! The changes that Juliette is undergoing are not just physical changes... ..I think there will also be personality changes too. There also seems to be an instinctive dislike between Hexenbiests and Grimms and maybe she's picked up some of those instincts (it might also explain why she gravitates to others like her). The writers.have focussed mainly on whether Nick will be able to accept her as who she is, but no one has really addressed whether Juliette's feelings for NIck will still be the same.
Other points: The Wesen of the week case was OK, but the last scene where he was begging to get his sister back was a bit heartbreaking. It almost seemed cruel to leave him that way.
I'm glad Renard is getting featured more, even if those scenes involve him hosting Juliette. Royals keep coming out of the woodwork in this show. When Adalind said "I can't have another baby.....I don't even know where the first one is!" I couldn't help laughing. Her character brings out the comedy in the worst of situations. Her scheme to sleep with Victor to make him the baby's "father" was a ridiculous scheme and I was so glad that Victor had left before she could proceed with it. Unless his math is terrible, I don't see that scheme working. I wonder what she'll say when she finds out that Juliette has her book.
Loving Wu as a member of the team, and Nick and Hank's reactions to his enthusiasm are funny. Always love Grimm but this was not their best episode. Hope they improve on the whole Juliette/Adalind/baby storyline with haste. I think this new aggressive royal coming next week is being added to spark things up but they need to get this hexenbiesty /baby storyline off the precipice it is dangerously near.
Grimm has a handful of clunkers every season. I'd say this was one of them. There were enough moments to make the hour palatable enough but this episode will never make anyone's 'best of' list.
I just cannot understand why Grimm rarely capitalizes on episode momentum!
Instead of moving the Juliette Hexenbeast plot forward after last week they crawled sideways in the story. It feels like they could move some arcs faster than others... Not everything needs to culminate in the finale episodes. As it is, and often has been, many of the arcs feel dragged out over a season.
I've mentioned before that I think Grimm needs a new showrunner (or at least a new co-showrunner) or a new creative consultant who is more proficient at plotting and who will bring a few new wrinkles to the show.
I have to believe there is someone out there who could up this show's game but until they bring in some new blood Grimm will continue to always be 'okay' and 'good enough.'
^ Same feels, I finally caught up after Nick Lost his powers and now I get this. Worse is it happened before and worse than that once she started ignoring I had an inclining this might happen and it did...
I saw the two people in one body coming even before the trailer research scene. :-) I think it's because I was talking about X-Files today.
I'm starting to worry about Sean's mother's Hexenbiest powers (btw..loved his rant about the confusion between Hexenbiest and Zaurbiest (sp?) I want to hear his explanation) One spell has her son bleeding in his dreams (did he go to a human doctor or a Wesen doctor. Seemed human in the scene which was perplexing) and he other spell turned Juliette into a super Hexenbiest.
Did I doze off or did they not include the 'telling Nick' scene from last week's trailer.
I really liked the ep. I thought the COTW was light enough to allow for the character stories. Am I the only one who feels like Wu has returned to enjoying his job? It occurred to me that he was seeming a little down for a while there.
My feeling about Juliette and Renard is just that she instinctively wants to be around someone like her. I don't think you can apply logic to her actions, because I think that her need to be around Renard is related to the changes that she's undergoing (which are not just physical). I know it will cause problems between Nick and Renard, but at the same time, I think she needs to think about herself and what she needs in order to cope with the situation.. Placing the needs of others before her needs is kind of what got her into this situation in the first place. So I'd cut her some slack.
I thought Renard's reaction to being called a Hexenbiest was funny too. According to Grimm wiki (which I consult whenever I'm confused!), the term "Hexenbiest" is only reserved for females, whereas the male counterpart is called a Zauberbiest. So Renard would be half Zauberbiest.
Nope. Every time she or someone in the group takes it upon themselves to withhold information from the group it makes things worse. Every time they delay working together bad things happen... or bad situations get worse. If she has not learned that lesson I have no sympathy for her. Period.
Also, I do not think going to Renard's place is about wanting to be with someone like her. Renard is not a Hexenbeast first off, and it's not like the two of them are friends, in fact I would say they do not trust one another very much. It makes no sense to want to get away from Nick and go to his boss's place. Then again, Juliette is not a logical person...
If she wanted to be around someone like her she would go to the only other Hexenbeast in town that she knows, Henrietta. She is removed from Nick's sphere and it would not be as problematic. She could go to Monroe and Juliet's, or better yet get out of town and go wherever her Fuchsbau friend Alicia is living.
I disagree.....I'm not saying her actions were wise, I'm saying that she's undergoing a lot of changes that might make her gravitate more to people like her. I also think she knows Renard much better than she knows Henrietta, so I can understand why she would go to him before Henrietta (Henrietta is a great character, but she's a bit shady! Plus, she and Renard have that weird history, so maybe she feels more of a shared connection.
Renard may not be a Hexenbiest, but he's a zauberbiest, which by definition, is the the male counterpart of a Hexenbiest (the same way a wizard is the male counterpart of a witch), so I'm guessing that they will share a a lot of things in common.
But Renard is near clueless when it comes to the Wessen world. Most of the time Nick is telling him information he does not know. He even admits as far as Hexenbiests go he cannot help Juliette very much, that is why he sent her to Henrietta. That and he knows it's wrong to keep Nick out of the loop and wanted nothing to do with Juliette's drama! XD
To me it is far more shady to go back to Renard after he sent her to Henrietta than to go to the possibly shady Henrietta. At least Henrietta knows what it means to be a Hexenbiest and about their world.... Going to Renard does nothing but alienate Nick even more.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

ReplyDeletei liked that the wesen of the week was one that could change his/her gender since i once imagine an wesen with that ability.

Monroe MADE this episode. "I've got a cramp!"
ReplyDeleteRosalie did ask Renard about his mom when they wanted to open the book up.

ReplyDeleteAnd Shirtless Sean is being featured more, thanks to his bloody side effect.
ReplyDeleteI think her need to be with someone who understands her trumps her need to simply find a place to stay.
ReplyDeletePlus the writers needed her to be in the same room for the open the spell book business to help them both look at it for their respective problems.

I think her dialog to Sean was supposed to answer the hotel question but wasn't enough for me.

I think it's story line not person reasons.
