I really loved the premiere...but the different storylines threw me for a loop...I'm sure the more I watch the more I'll understand. Otherwise, really amazing performances especially Jason Issacs!
It kind of reminds me of The Da Vinci Code with what I imagine The Returned will be like with a dash of Orphan Black. The only thing that wasn't smooth was the transition between scenes that switch locations. Its like each of the three introduced locations have their own unique atmosphere and filming style, making it feel like your watching three different shows...it made it unique, but it was a little jarring.
I liked it well enough. Lots of shows I watch are on hiatus or airing reruns every other week so I'll probably stick with this. I was annoyed that Alison Sudol's character was killed in the premiere though. Although, we only saw photos and not a body so maybe she isn't. Who knows.
I think I remember reading there might be a light supernatural element, so I do think we could see her again, let alone you are right, the audience and Issacs' character didn't see a body. I also noticed in the "weeks ahead promo" that there is some lost video footage of her as well. Plus it appears that there might clones?!
Is it kinda like Zero Hour, with slight elements of sci-fi/fantasy? I meant to watch it last night but got too busy catching up with HTGAWM. My interest is gonna go way up if it has weird slightly otherworldy elements haha.
Kind of, but it doesn't look or feel like a typical genre show. It's filmed very much in Robert Landgon series-like way. Very down to earth with the supernatural or science fiction elements being light or presented Ina more realistic kind of way. It also very much has a crime drama element too. A lot of reviews I read really shot it down. I think they don't like how it doesn't really fit in one box and consider it "messy" writing, because they have a few different things going on and don't spell out any possible connections between them to the viewers and because a lot of people aren't in the mood for a conspiracy show.
Nice, thanks for the reply. So yeah sounds like the "weird" stuff if kind of similar to Zero Hour. Or maybe a little more realistic, but still. I enjoy conspiracy shows and enjoy "alternate history" stuff like Da Vinci Code. I'll definitely check it out. (Although I'm considering waiting until 2 more episodes have aired, and then just watch them all in a day.)
Sure. I don't judge pilots too harshly just because I think series deserve some time to evolve or be explored in order for it to find itself. With that being said, I still really enjoyed it and despite what ever problems it may have, found it unique. I hope you'll enjoy it too! :)
Finally caught it last night and i'm hooked! I can see where it would remind you of The Da Vinci Code. The transition was a bit jarring but not enough to where it couldn't be followed. I look forward to finding out where this all leads to or who it leads to!

Me too! I did notice some things that may be connecting things. I Will just copy and paste what I wrote below in response to Bruce...
*Clone Boys apart of Religious Psychological Experiment... *Special [genetically modified?] "Red" Calf *A young girl who looks & acts like, -and maybe dies like, an older version Peter's daughter. (incarnation/reincarnation??)
The Color RED:
*Red and White shirts of clone boys *Red Haired Calf *Red Headed Girl(s): Peter's [unseen] daughter, Emma, & Debbie * Red Stone Stolen/Red Stone Drawing [for the Birth-plate communication device)

Voted "Awesome"! Thought it was a very solid premiere, nicely shot, and a rather interesting premise.
ReplyDeleteI will come back tomorrow to discus other things, but just wanted to say how much I liked it!!!
I love Digging so I'm going to watch this! Just waiting on 1080p

ReplyDeleteThe stone she slipped in his pocket was red which seems to be the same red stone she drew multiple times in her journal/sketch book.
ReplyDeleteThanks! :D
