I really enjoyed this episode. The small tidbits regarding Kate taking the captain's exam and being told that she was someone who was noticed due to her amazing accomplishments. These moments definitely felt like they could be the precursor to the finale...but maybe I'm reading to deep in to those moments.
Of course she should be, but with Supercop Beckett we can be happy that she doesn't aim straight for the Chief of Department. Character development a'la Castle with a "little" shark jumping...
Seamus Dever's last tweet wasn't very optimistic. Even though the decision is in the hand of the two leads, if ABC were really so keen about S8 I think they could have made preliminary contract agreements with the rest of the staff, being effictive without any further delay if they agree with the stars.
Thanks for watching tonight's Ryan centric episode. Might be the last one. G'night folks.— Seamus Dever (@seamusdever) March 24, 2015
No there are special promotions available to hot shots with the right clout and with the right recommendations She could be promoted straight to Captain of a precinct as a Lt. in grade.
With the countless number of breaking the rules, being suspended, fired from the FBI and with a husband with confirmed maffia connection? I seriously doubt.
Plus, special promotions usually means that even though she has only achieved Leutenant in rank she can work as a Captain in position. Not that being only a Detective she instantly jumps over two ranks and fulfill a position one grade higher than her rank.
Not to mention that having been detective for at least 8-10 years is hardly constituates her as "hot shot". More like stalled.
I don't think that any of the above would object her promotion in the show and I'm sure that just like all other half baked plot turn, this will also be handled by fans with the "suspend your disbelief" mantra. But these unnecessary jumping the shark ideas lead to the points where people stop watching.
Ok, if you say so, I beleive you over the rank and file list of NYPD on the internet. Yet the rest remains: her past, Castle's past, her abhorring politics and the very unfitting "hot shot" reason. I don't know whether NYPD also follow the up or out rule of the army, but promoting Beckett one rank just to be able to fulfill another rank above it means super lazy and shitty character development.
They had seven years to do something with her, did nothing and now out of the blue they hackney a carreer to her.
PS: I checked a number of references and regarding NYPD Detective Sergeant (and Detective Leutenant) are specific ranks for detectives, not a rank for Training and Patrol. There are different classification at almost all police forces, different from town to town, so just out of curiosity if you have source that Detective 1st grade and Detective Sgt. are equal at the NYPD, please share it. (Specifically, because there is a different shaped and sized badge for the Detective Sgt.s)
Correct the Detective Sgt is designed for training. They have different badges. So Detective Sgt can still do the job as a Detective first Class it is not their main job.
Sorry to ask again, but could you link the source? my hobby is the law enforcement units and in all of my references NYPD Det. Sgt. is a special rank for supervisor of the "plain" (grade 1-3) detectives, and it requires an exam. They aren't for training though obviously supervising somebody's work means instructing and correcting if it's necessary, which educates the detective if they listen.
That a Det. Sgt. can be tasked with investigating jobs, which a Grade 1 could also do, or a Grade 1 Det. can be an assigned leader of a group of detectives (like Beckett to Ryan and Esposito) it doesn't means that the two ranks are equivalent when it is about the promotion in the bureaucracy .
but she said that this might not be for her, that's what she told Castle so my way of looking at it was that she just wanted to see if she could do it not that she would. and I think the finale she finds her balance in what she wants to do, that's what the last few esp in my eyes have been about.
he doesn't know which way it will go that's why it was said that way, cause in his mind it might be the last one, he's getting prepared, he like us doesn't know anything yet! just like SK tweets she wants to make sure that she says thanks to all her friends\fans now in case they don't get season 8, I think that we will know real soon.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
I was just wondering (i'm not an expert), but don't you need to be a sergeant or a lieutenant first in order to do the captain's exam?

Awesome episode, but where is Alexis in all of this? Over the years she is getting even more and more scarce and i don't like it.

Another awesome episode for me. I am loving how this season is going. I am so hoping that that castle will be back next season.
ReplyDeleteNo Detective First Grade is equivalent to Sgt. So it is only one step toward LT. Sgt is used for Training and patrol.
