people jump to call Klaus from The Originals an anti-hero. In fact Tom fits that profile better than Klaus, however I would say that Tom is a villain on the crossroads, torn between sides. Not an anti-hero yet
I am more excited about next week. That promo looks awesome! I can't wait to see the Red/Tom showdown. Unfortunately, it looks like Liz will probably find out that Red was originally at fault. So, back to mad Lizzy. It strikes me as funny that even Dembe appears to not like Tom. Perhaps he has gained some affection for Liz after trailing her and her story for years with Red. It was sweet to see Red looking at all those birthday photos. I think Red ships Ressler/Lizzy. LOL
I don't think so, but I think he was hoping to hide the doctor and use him as his own scientist to keep working toward the goal of memory regeneration. I wonder who stole her memory and why. (other than the fulcrum)
He was a pure villain last year. I believe they are trying to go anti-hero with him this year. Which is part of the reason I find that storyline disjointed... I do find him very interesting though. I like his scenes.
I was actually calling both Red and Tom anti-hero characters in comparison to the FBI hero characters of Lizzie, Ressler and Samar. :) I still like the hero characters, but the bit of mystery and unpredictable-ness that Red and Tom bring is much more interesting to me.
I guess, Tom could be classified as a villain. However, I don't think the show is that black and white, so I went with anti-hero.
Well, some would argue he wants her to remember because he needs her to remember about the fulcrum. She told him she has it, but most people postulate, that it isn't the fulcrum but another clue toward it, and Red probably knows that. I prefer to think he wants her to remember because he feels like she got her memory stolen from her, and he knows how much she wants to remember. He clearly didn't want her to see some parts of the memory, but after she came out of the trance, he realized she had it all wrong. I prefer to think he wants he what was stolen back, even if it was a terrible memory.
The episode was surprisingly very good. I was not very excited for another fringe science blacklister but with Tom Jacob Jingleheimershmidt, Veneer Connolly and the Major all popping up it was fantastic. I am going out to buy my #teamkeen shirt tmrw!
As we know the doctor told Lizzie at the end of the post Super Bowl two parter that there were signs that Lizzie had undergone memory experiments previously. Since we know Red wants those memories back, it cannot have been his doing. But we know he has had Lizzie under surveillance since she was a child so why doesn't he know more about who, what, and when her mind was tampered with.
Let's see what we are supposed to believe here, namely that Connolly would just let Tom walk out with no support at all to be picked up by whoever and killed, after clearing the man of capital murder. Not believable. Less likely is the idea that Lizzie and Tom would not expect Lizzie's phone to be tapped at this point.
It now looks like more than ever Red set up the murder trial as Lizzie had let Red think she knew where the Fulcrum was but now he is looking for a way to help her remember what she told the judge she does not know. It is also clear that Red did not erase Lizzie's memory, someone else did. Red lacks specifics to what happened to Lizzie and he is guessing now on can it be undone. BTW, Liz now has a Judge and tech guy in his group when needed . Fun watching him build an arsenal. Back to the German's amazing how these drug dealers can pop in town and locate a man who Red had to kidnap a Prime Minister to find and shoot up his car and kidnap him and tom in broad daylight.
Thinking this will comeback on Red as the Germans do not know the group Tom works for nor who pays them. And now Tom is either in with the Germans to get Red or hiding wit Lizzie to let the Germans get in trouble with bigger fish than themselves.
Either way the episode makes sense except Red not hunting down Tom and getting rid of Tom or seeing who protects Tom.
Oh, and funny how Cooper's brain cancer is being fixed but the longevity program is a failure. The moment Cooper got that call I would have searched into what company was behind the study and looked for why it works, if it works.
That was some pretty good episode. Im glad and sad at the same time that the Dr. research didnt work.Sad because It would've been great if his research lead him to have some develop in what happened to his wife and glad cause Red is not able to find a way to see what's going on with Liz and that memory. That russian people let Tom alone (for now) but The Major it's looking for him, I can see he will ask Red for help, after all Tom has become now an enemy of these two. Conolly and his passive-agressive attitude is really good, the guy has an agenda and these little moves here and there will make everything for him to take over easilly that task force one of these days. Aram and his 31 cupcakes, no, wait... 30 cupcakes. It was sweet, realy really sweet. Does anyone feels that Navabi it's been left on the side for too long?, she is as badass as Ressler, why doesnt she go out in missions more often even Meera went out more in missions than her.
we actually knew it already, on the flashback episode they showed a scene of when Liz had him captive, he said his real name is Jacob Phelps, i guess we just forgot or thought he was lying
While I enjoyed this episode, I'm concerned that The Blacklist is evolving into a case-of-the-week show--with heavy doses of violence (Tom & the Major being tortured) and creepiness (the zombie-like patients being experimented on). NONE of which I like in my TV series'.
The most "exciting" thing for me in tonight's episode was at the end, where Liz & Ressler finally seem to be acting on the sexual tension that was there from the pilot episode. Their attraction may play into next week's episode--the promo focusing on a "choice" that Liz will be making between Tom & Red. My guess it will be easier for Liz to choose Red if she's already starting to have feelings for Ressler.
A few last words about Cooper. He's definitely on a slippery sloop: once again he seems to be willing to trade his ethics for his life--by preventing his team from detaining the Billionaire in order to remain in the clinical trials that seem to be healing him. BTW, Cooper's actions also make him somewhat like the Billionaire in that they're both are attempting to preserve life. Nice touch, Blacklist Writers!
I wouldn't say it's evolving. It's always been a case of the week show with mythology-laden bookends. Sometimes we'll get a heavier dose of the mythology stuff but it's very much a procedural, if you ask me.
Well are the two mutually exclusive? He could been a psychopath in his past and presently have fallen for Liz for real... Or at least talked himself into believing he loves Liz for real.
I guess the truth for Tom/ Jacob is a very complex thing since he has been programmed to be numerous different people for the majority of his life. Maybe he is now discovering or "creating" his real self?
Thankfully The Blacklist got back on track this week! Huzzah!
I'm glad they had The Major attempt to take out Tom since it would be the logical choice if in his situation, but I would think an experienced operator like him would have had a better plan...
Speaking of Tom... I think I will ignore his real name being Jacob Phelps, at least for now. He is still Tom Keen to me! Interesting that he kept the sonogram image! If he doesn't truly love her he certainly believes he does. Sometimes the line between the two is irrelevant...
I enjoyed Liz and Red discussing his real motivations in this case... Mr. Hobbs... I wonder if he is in The Cabal or has connections? That could be what Red meant when he told Liz that Hobbs will be a very good friend exactly when he needs to be...
Honestly though, Red had dual motivations on this case..... He also was wondering if Liz's memory could be restored with Doctor Powell's research. My question is: Did Red want it to recover Liz's childhood memories or to make sure they stay covered up? XD
Last year some people complained about the show being so COTW as well, but by season's end we discovered every episode except one was related to the myth arc or seasonal arc... This year could well be the same when it's all done. Although, I do wonder about it sometimes....
If I had to guess I would say that Tom Keen is the closest thing to a real identity he has ever had. It seems like one of his longer missions so it would have impact that way and maybe he began to experience emotional crossover.
He may have started pretending to be Tom and Love Liz, but if we pretend something long enough it often can become part of us. That's why I have always felt he loved Liz I guess.
My point is that we do not know who the real Jacob is since he was never given a chance to become his own person. He was molded as a child into a chameleon who would eventually play Tom Keen. Hmmm, what fits best? Psychopath... sociopath.... or broken person that has traits in common with both, but could be neither?
It may be a moot point anyone though since to become his own person for the first time in his life he would have to get out of the game. I do not see that happening in any way other than death.
This ep. is quite boring. No progress on the main story arc at all. The show is becoming a soap opera recently. Tom's storyline is OOC.I don't like the direction of the show, seems to go to nowhere.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
I thought it was good/ok, but next week's promo looks dang good. Anti-hero characters are always so much more interesting than the hero.
ReplyDeleteDO NOT tell me that you just called Tom Keen an ANTI-HERO!
ReplyDeletepeople jump to call Klaus from The Originals an anti-hero. In fact Tom fits that profile better than Klaus, however I would say that Tom is a villain on the crossroads, torn between sides. Not an anti-hero yet
ReplyDeleteSo if the mad doctor had said yes he could regenerate memory cells , would Red have had him inject Lizzie's brain with some of his fish cells ?

What did Tom say at the end??
ReplyDeleteAny idea what Tom said to Lizzie at the end?
ReplyDeleteOf the promo or show?
ReplyDeleteTHAT'S better than calling him a full anti-hero
ReplyDeleteThe show
ReplyDeleteRed's more anti-hero than Tom, mac's description is a much description of Tom than anti-hero
ReplyDeleteLizzie - "What are you doing?"
ReplyDeleteTom - "I had nowhere else to go."
it confused me though, i thought Red wanted the memory gone?
ReplyDeleteLOL
ReplyDeletemini throwup here, you're forewarned "i didn't know where else to go"

ReplyDeleteThank you!!!

ReplyDeletei wonder who is responsible for erasing her memories then. Her parents?
ReplyDeleteHe is, he is a sociopath
ReplyDeleteThat dog that Lizzie is still supposed to have ,leftover from her life with Tom, must be the loneliest, most uncared for little doggie in DC.
ReplyDeletehonestly was he EVER? he kept the baby sonogram, what sociopath keeps that?
ReplyDeletecool anothre Liz and Ressler shipper
ReplyDeleteWell are the two mutually exclusive?
ReplyDeleteHe could been a psychopath in his past and presently have fallen for Liz for real... Or at least talked himself into believing he loves Liz for real.

Yeah that works...
ReplyDeleteIt's so difficult to know exactly what Tom is since he doesn't know exactly who he is! XD

i think Hobbs just has connections, i don't think he's part of The Alliance
ReplyDeletewell psychopath i different than SOCIOpath so it's strange that he has emotions. Who's his "real" self then?
ReplyDeleteIf I had to guess I would say that Tom Keen is the closest thing to a real identity he has ever had. It seems like one of his longer missions so it would have impact that way and maybe he began to experience emotional crossover.

That's where I stand right now too, but... I wonder...
ReplyDeleteeven when we found out he was a sociopath and that's why he is who he is?
ReplyDeleteyeah you can never rule that out, fans thought the judge was part of The Alliance and that was wrong but you never know
