I always thought Jonathan Banks was awesome on Breaking Bad but tonight, he just blew me away with his stunning performance and took it to a whole other level. Wow, that was just perfect. Sure there wasn't enough of Jimmy but it was definitely Mike's time to shine with his backstory and all and it was so well worth it. That episode was above and beyond my favorite one yet from the show and I can't wait to see what the final 4 episodes will deliver.
I think his "Half Measures" speech in Breaking Bad is one of the best scenes I've ever had the privilege of watching. This one... I think might have topped it. Jonathan Banks killed it. It was brutal. It was truthful. Simply phenomenal.
What a phenomenal performance by Jonathan Banks. My heart broke several times during that episode but its when Mike is telling his daughter-in-law the truth about what happened to Matty that I found myself completely entranced and completely devastated.
But it also shines a light on Breaking Bad era Mike, especially his relationship with Jesse. Knowing he lost his son and how that happened I think it explains a lot at how protective Mike became of Jesse in the end.
This episode is a perfect example of how brilliant writing and direction combined with amazing actors can make even the most basic of premises into an hour of awe inspiring television! You do not need overly gimmicky special FX, You do not need a snarky and sexy under 35 lead actor. You do not need a plot twist. You do not need one-liners and ill-timed humor.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
This was Jonathan Banks' Emmy submission episode. This was his best work yet.
ReplyDeleteThat was THE BEST episode yet! Jonathan Banks deserves an Emmy for that episode. OMG, I still have tears in my eyes! Incredible. Simply, incredible.

Nice that Odenkirk got a bit of a mid-season breather. Banks was sublime.
