FOX has picked up the comedy series NEW GIRL for a fifth season, it was announced today by David Madden, President, Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company.

“Four seasons in, NEW GIRL continues to be one of the smartest and most relatable comedies on television,” said Madden. “The writing is razor-sharp, the ensemble is consistently hilarious, and we couldn’t be more proud of Liz, Brett, Dave and the entire NEW GIRL team. We absolutely love this show and we’re so excited to bring it back for Season Five.”

The series will celebrate its landmark 100th episode during the upcoming 2015-2016 season.

In “The Right Thing,” the next all-new episode of NEW GIRL, airing tonight, Tuesday, March 31 (9:00-9:30 PM ET/PT), Houston Texans 2015 Pro Bowl Defensive MVP J.J. 4. Not a surprise at all. But it is interesting to note that this is the second time (Sleepy Hollow being the first) David Madden has announced a renewal. Not Dana and/or Gary. This looks very much like the President overstepping them both to secure a renewal. That doesn't speak to a lot of confidence in Dana or Gary's vision or ability to evaluate a show's future or value to FOX.

  5. Interesting that you said that about David Madden. He must not be happy with what they are doing. Mindy still has a chance but then this could be issue with the execs as well. Good for New Girl fans. The show seems to be having a better year ratings not withstanding.

  9. "He must not be happy with what they are doing." I agree completely. I don't think Dana or Gary are anywhere near the same page on what they envision FOX's brand of entertainment to be. More importantly, they are harming their potential new shows with horrible decision making.

Minority Report squandered its front runner position with horrible casting decisions. So much so that it would not surprise me to see Lucifer or Frankenstein on Mondays paired up with Gotham. Joe Manganiello, one of the biggest casting "gets" for not only Scream Queens but also FOX left because they couldn't finalize shooting. And Luther was put on hold, honestly it never should have initialized IMO, because they couldn't cast it.

Not to mention, their biggest buzz project now is the rebooted X-Files. Which sends a horrible message to advertisers as it looks to them like FOX's development roster is weak and FOX lacks confidence in it.

Not to mention they've completely sacrificed Rosewood and the comedies for Studio City (which is essentially a Caucasian viewership friendly version of Empire and could easily be the biggest bomb of the season) and a Houdini & Doyle miniseries that seems to be too niche for broadcast and would have been better on cable.

The one thing FOX has done right is the casts of Lucifer and Frankenstein, which are the only two projects that can compete with the other network's "gets" but FOX seems currently cold on both of them.

  10. I read this last week? I thought they have started shooting early because she is pregnant? It's the mindy project I want to know about.. I like new girl and love the mindy project...will be so angry if it's cancelled like last year with surviving jack 😢.

  11. And you wonder why FOX is where its at. If it weren't for Empire and to an extent Gotham and American Idol look how bad of a year they have really had

  12. Wasn't this announced already?? I know I read this here? Whyyy is it posted again? I'm confused.
