New Girl - Advance Preview - "The Right Thing"
Hi everyone, this is an advance preview for the March 31st episode of New Girl and at the time of writing this preview, there is no official confirmation for the title of the episode other than a listing on IMDb for "The Right Thing." Coach sets up Jess on a date with a guy from his gym, Pete, and Jess sends her first "sext" in hopes of wooing Pete, but they soon find out that Pete had a good reason for not meeting Jess…he died! Meanwhile, Schmidt anxiously awaits the arrival of his mother who is in town visiting. Schmidt tries to act smooth around the gang, but casually explains that his mother is overbearing and tries to nitpick what he does and how he should be taking care of things. Nick tries to take his mind off of things by offering a 10% share of the bar that Mike is selling. They have $10K from the "swuit", now they need to figure out a way to ask Schmidt's mom for his Bar Mitzvah money that he is owed. And finally, Winston tries to get to know his partner on the force Ali, but she keeps side-stepping his offers to grab a drink after work or hangout.
The episode seems to have the same slapstick type of humor that has been present in recent episodes, like Genzlinger in the clown outfit, only with Schmidt reverting back to his boyhood-self around his mother. "Can I get an alcohol?" Jess, Cece, and Coach decide to go to the wake/funeral for Pete, but they end up interrupting the family gathering with plenty of awkward encounters to make you cringe in joy while watching. Back at the restaurant, Schmidt's mother agrees to give him the Bar Mitzvah money if he can complete the thank-you notes for everyone intended. What better way to bring in Winston and his partner on "official work" than by tracking down everyone from the event using an old VHS-recording.
Lately, New Girl has been able to put a smile on my face in between a few laughs and frankly, that's all that is needed after last season. Each episode has brought the gang back together in interesting ways that at time may seem a bit far-fetched, but are fun nonetheless. The show has always been good when the gang works together and revels in debauchery while addressing some taxing issues in their lives like love, marriage, jobs, dating, friends with benefits, etc. As we head into the final run of episodes, I am happy to say that New Girl is keeping that tradition intact after learning from past mistakes. I do hope to see some heavier thematic material dealt with in the final episodes, but for now I am happy, and I hope you are too, with the overall course the producers decided to take. Tune in March 31st to see how it all plays out on an all-new episode of New Girl.
