X-Men: Apocalypse and the untitled Wolverine sequel are set to film back to back with filming beginning soon. However mere hours ago, Hugh Jackman posted this image onto Instagram with the comment "WOLVERINE ...ONE LAST TIME. HJ". Is this to be his final time as Wolverine?
Jennifer Lawrence also announced just over a week ago that X-Men: Apocalypse was to be her final film in the franchise with the status of her co-stars still in question.
He's the best for the role! I can't think of anyone else who could play Wolverine better than him
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw the pic earlier I thought he meant the shooting for Apocalypse!
ReplyDeleteDidn't thought there would be another Wolverine movie.
But it's understandable after 15 years.
I havent even watched the first lol
ReplyDeleteWell in the end Hugh will start aging and well Wolverine isn't meant to so it will become obvious but he has been great in the role, loved him in Days of Future Past especially. Origins was terrible but other than that he has been a bright light in a sometimes dodgy franchise. Hopefully Fox will learn there is life after Wolverine and won't recast the character but let others shine for a bit instead.
ReplyDeleteI still feel sorry that he had to endure X-Men Origins: Wolverine and The Last Stand because he has been such a phenomenal Logan/Wolverine. One of the best CB character portrayals.
ReplyDeleteMy plot suggestion? "The Death Of Wolverine" arc. you cant get much better than hugh jackman.
ReplyDeleteI'll believe it when he's dead and literally cannot play Wolverine again.
ReplyDeleteAs much as I loved Hugh as Wolverine, I feel X-men movies suffered as a whole because they made it all about Wolverine because it was played by him instead of giving so many other interesting characters their due.
ReplyDeleteIf it is his last time, i really don't blame him. I was actually curious to know when he'd announce it. He was great but it's time to wrap it up. So with that said, let's make it a memorable last performance. Love you Hugh.
ReplyDeleteLoved his performance in all the flicks and while I'm a little sad that he might leave I understand that.
ReplyDeleteHe's really a Hollywood heavyweight these days and yet he stuck with this franchise. Look at Lawrence and Hoult, both JUST made their breakout and want to distance themselves from this franchise. Meanwhile Jackman is without a doubt a even bigger actor than these two and yet was SO dedicated to this character.
The man didn't just act the hell out of that part but pretty much devoted his body to the character (if you've seen his workout videos you'll know what I'm talking about)
Mad respect for the past 15 years and a long applause for the dedication he put into this role.
now, all my sappy sad talk aside: this could be either misinterpreted or Jackman subtly suggesting that it's time for another raise
They tried with First Class, the movie itself was a box office bomb (budget $160mil, domestic gross: $146mil)
ReplyDeleteAlso DoFP only had Wolverine as the narrative main, not the actual focus. Mystique, Magneto and Prof X were the actual maincharacter there.
He was the red line, the whole thing wasn't about him (now, X2.3.Origins,TheWolverine WERE about him)
The problem is, if not him, who else? Another young pretty face that can't act for sh*t and only uses the franchise as a board to jump off only to abandon the franchise once his contract expires?
Or just leave Wolverine dead?
Signed, nothing against anyone else but he made the part his own (despite a lot of early backlash, he sure proved the nay sayers wrong)
ReplyDeleteDidn't Hoult say that he would like to do more after Apocalypse?
ReplyDeleteMy guess is they are hoping Deadpool takes off so they can expand him into the new face of the franchise. He has a built in fanbase already, but if they take to the movie version is still questionable.
ReplyDeletenot sure that would work, Deadpools main trademark is breaking the fourth wall immediately turning every piece of media he's in into something very self aware. And given the pre-set tone of the X-franchise I just can't see that happen.
ReplyDeleteI'm willing to bet on Channing Tatums Gambit though, Tatum's pretty big right now (I'd prefer Kitsch though....he was the only good part in Origins)
he did? Didn't hear about that
ReplyDeleteWolverine sequel takes place in the old timeline. It takes place after 'The Wolverine'. It's probably going to be the final film in the old timeline.
ReplyDeleteDeadpool and Gambit they haven't revealed where they take place. Gambit is rumored to be appearing in X-Men: Apocalypse in a small role so I assume that is present day in the First Class timeline. Deadpool I don't know.
Thanks. I just hope we haven't seen the last of Blink!
ReplyDeleteI meant in the X-Men franchise as a whole not in individual movies. No other character comes anywhere close to the amount of exposure Wolverine has gotten. X-Men was never so much about Wolverine. They altered one of the best storylines done in X-Men comics, the Dark Phoenix saga to be all about him. Even DoFP in comics didn't have Wolverine going back. They somehow feel the need to involve him more than he should be when there are many other interesting characters who could use a spotlight.
ReplyDeleteAs I said, I loved Hugh as Wolverine. I just wish they used him far more sparingly.
Fair, he's pushing 50.
ReplyDeleteGod Origins was awful. It was the opposite of Days of Future Past.
ReplyDeleteThrough the highs and the lows he's always been THE bright spot in this franchise holding it all together, so if it is ineed his last go around it'll be a sad day for X-Men (and Fox because as I said, he's been the saving grace even when the movies sucked!)
ReplyDeleteBut I get it, after so many years... and what with Logan and his not aging, and HJ and him having to actually age. It does sorta make sense...
I remember all the "he's too tall" whining... And I laugh in their faces 15 years later... He owned the part!
ReplyDelete*nods* and I get how after 15 years and his commitment to the character and the franchise he might be ready to move on. He's more than paid his dues and showed more respect (and at times undeserved respect mind you) to the fans and the story.
ReplyDelete(and shallow sidenote: I know he's pushing 50 but he still looks pretty damn awesome!)
