Walt Disney CEO Bob Iger said Star Wars Episode 8 will be released May 26, 2017 and that a standalone movie based on the Star Wars world that is due December, 2016 will be called Rogue One.
Though, the title of the article is misleading. It should be titled something along the lines of: "Star Wars: Episode VIII Release Date / Standalone Movie Title Revealed"
I feel like I SHOULD be excited about Star Wars returning and possibly in all of its glory, but I just don't. I don't know why either because I love the original trilogy to death.
Never cared much for the animated show (except the first Clone Wars, not the CGI one but that 2D animated show they aired between Episode 2 and 3).
I failed to take the Expanded Universe serious, it added a sense of complete insanity to a universe that was based on childlike wonder and tried to make it dark n' gritty
Kind of ambiguous title on the Standalone, but I'm kind of glad, because it's possible then that it won't be as one-character centric, as they originally made it out...
However, my gut tells me, if the rumor's true, and that one of the original trilogy characters die at the end of episode VII, It would make sense to follow with a movie about their youth. And this title could def refer to that character.
So my guesses to either one of or all of the following: Han Solo Kanan Boba Fett Leia Darth Vader Aphra (new character from Darth Vader Comics)
I could never get into the animated series like Clone Wars and even now with Rebels, I am more interested in the upcoming Kanan comic book series, but there was parts of [the former] expanded universe I did like such as Knights of the Old Republic (comics/Game), Dawn of the Jedi, The Force Unleashed (games), and Shadows of the Empire. And there were also these little alternate reality comics that were fun ( A Snow White Darth Vader!) and even recently before Marvel took back the reins, Dark Horse released a series based on Lucas earliest drafts with a lot homage to McQuarrie-like concept art: The Star Wars...
But I do think it was overwhelming and even when I became interested, it was hard to know where to start. I was mostly interested in Jedi and Sith history, so that is usually where I went, but I am curious to see how it will be handled now that they hit the reset button...
I'm keeping my expectations very low. I have to see how the Force Awakens turns out first before going all crazy over these movies (Phanton Menace anyone??). Anyway, the teaser looked promising and i believe we will get another one soon. (fingers crossed)
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Hmmm, I'm surprised the title of the standalone isn't "Star Wars: Rogue One".
ReplyDeleteYES YES YES YES YES YES YES.
ReplyDeleteThough, the title of the article is misleading. It should be titled something along the lines of: "Star Wars: Episode VIII Release Date / Standalone Movie Title Revealed"
Yep, sorry about that it is mis-leading and poorly worded. I've updated the title ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it's called "Star Wars: Episode VIII: Rogue One".
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear they're going with a May release again, a December release just feels wrong for Star Wars.
ReplyDeleteWell it's not an episode, it's a standalone.
ReplyDeleteBut I have to imagine "Star Wars" will be in the title.
Thanks! :D
ReplyDeleteInteresting and I like the release dates.
ReplyDeleteRogue One? i would have preferred Slave One.
ReplyDeleteYESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!
ReplyDeleteit certainly will, no chance Star Wars will not be used as the specified title.
ReplyDeleteWe've had Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars: Battlefron etc.
I feel like I SHOULD be excited about Star Wars returning and possibly in all of its glory, but I just don't. I don't know why either because I love the original trilogy to death.
ReplyDeleteThat could be the title when it's all said and done.
ReplyDeleteRIP Star Wars: The Clone Wars
ReplyDeleteI still miss that show :(
Star Wars: Rebels is at least a fun replacement

I suggest checking out Star Wars: Rebels, its oddly fun. Not as dark as the CGI Clone Wars would delve into.

Tell that to "Chopper's victims" :P
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for the Kanan comic series. The cover artwork (and the previews of the interior artwork) look really good!
ReplyDeleteI hope the rumors about the other upcoming comics turns out to be true too.
Chopper = best character
ReplyDeleteIt looks fantastic! And I too hope those other comic book rumors are true too! XD
ReplyDeleteMy favourite quote from Filoni was about Chopper.
ReplyDelete"If R2's your favorite dog, Chopper's a cat"
Hah! I love it!
ReplyDeleteWe all need more Chopper in our lives!

ReplyDeleteI think one of the trailers before Avengers: Age of Ultron will be of Star Wars.
