I had heard from solid sources that Marvel was looking at some 16 and 17 year old actors; now a new (untested) source has chimed in to say that Mateus Ward, a child actor from Showtime's Weeds, auditioned for the role. It was so super secret they held the audition at a house, not any sort of office, but word leaks out (16 year olds can't keep their mouths shut). Does this mean Ward will get the role? I don't know, and I'm not really familiar with the kid's work, but if true it does show that Marvel is indeed casting young. They don't want a Peter Parker (and look at Ward -he would be Peter Parker, not Miles Morales) turning 35 as they begin production on his third film. Like I said, this is a new source, but the information backs up other stuff I've been told by other sources I know well.
I've been very vocal about wanting Marvel to cast young for the role - I think a legitimately teenaged Peter Parker is a striking outsider when compared against the grown men playing Iron Man and Captain America. We've had 'high school Peter Parker' on film before, but this will be the first time it will be a truly high school aged actor playing the role, and that will visually pay off in spades.

hmmm....wouldn't say no to that guy. Unknown and without a annoying biased fanbase like the others have.
ReplyDeleteAn unknown would be good IMO, and if they insist on it being Peter Parker again then yeah it should be an young actor rather than someone in their 20s/30s pretending to be in high school.
ReplyDeleteinteresting an actual 16-year old, cool. although LOL a person named Ward in the NCU HA!
ReplyDeleteI like college aged Spider Man more than high school Spider Man
ReplyDeleteI'd go with a post college one, get Maguire back!
ReplyDeleteIf only.
ReplyDeleteIdk this kid. I didn't watch Weeds. I need to look him up.
ReplyDeleteI don't know about this, he's a bit too young. I think they should get someone around 20. Hopefully Logan Lerman or Dylan O'Biren gets it.
ReplyDeleteI liked him in Hostages.
ReplyDeletethe last two would force me to abandon the MCU for good. No need for pointlessly overhyped actors with little to no actual talent
ReplyDeletewould be great IMO. I couldn't stand Garfields portrayal of the character (who was written like a douchebag in the TASM movies), O'Brien never sold me (and I don't plan on watching that one time he apparently was good, if most of his performance sucks judging one single bit won't hel) and Lerman is just god damn terrible
ReplyDeleteI didn't even bother with the second one. That should tell you something. = /
ReplyDeleteTells me that you got taste, the TASM flicks were attrocious and felt like a kick in the gut
ReplyDeleteThat would work, too.
ReplyDeleteEh, not keen on the idea of a teenaged Peter Parker at this point. A mid-twenties Peter would still be enough of a juxtaposition from the more adult Avengers.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't mind them casting an actual teenager, but I just googled this Mateus Ward and he looks too young! He may be 16, but he looks like a 13 year old.
ReplyDeleteI would prefer it if they cast a teenage actor who actually looks 16/17, so slightly older than Ward.
Ugh, so an ever younger Peter Parker? Pass!
ReplyDeleteNooo I always wanted Spidey back but not like this how will a kid look against Chris,Downey and a kid leading a billion dollar franchise??? They pushed inhumans for this now I'm officially mad!
ReplyDeleteIts a blessing in disguise that fox and Sony had spider man, xmen, f4 before otherwise we would never get black panther, guardians or inhumans.
I want Taron Egerton for this part lmao fml
ReplyDeleteNah... not a baby... he just looks like a real 16 year old looks...
ReplyDeleteI'd heard they were casting super young for this, and really it makes sense. Considering the Civil War appearance will most likely be a glorified cameo, and they won't actually start working on his solo film for another year/year and a half at least, they'll need someone much younger who will still be at an appropriate age when they start pushing Spidey.
ReplyDeleteI'm still hoping for a Miles appearance/reference/cameo though...
No, he's a baby, and he looks 12. Not 16-17.
ReplyDeleteI really really liked him in Hostages. He could pull of the role. Just didn't realized he was that young. Either way can't wait for the 3rd movie to come out.
ReplyDeleteDid you watch Hostages last season? He was quite solid in it. I would dig him as PP.
ReplyDeleteNo I did not.
ReplyDeleteThan U will just to have to wait to see the movie, if he gets cast.
ReplyDeleteThat's TV, this is the big screen, completely different. I'll wait for a trailer. But I don't like this kid's youth issue at all. Like everyone else on this thread...he's too freaking young looking. And I don't like it.
ReplyDeleteI think they are intentionally going for a younger actor cause of the movie theme. Don't want to spoil you to much, so it is a smart move from that pov.
ReplyDeleteI know they're. That's not my issue. But forget it.
