Steve and Natasha work so much better as friends, like so much. I love the friendship between Natasha/Steve/Sam in that film. Platonic friendships are underrated.
I thought it would be her and Clint for sure. I didn't see her with Steve at all even if they had chemistry. Evans' Rogers strikes me as a one woman kind of man and unless your name is Peggy, don't hold your breath.
Honestly, at this point I think ABC might as well hang a giant banner that says "WE DON'T CARE ABOUT AGENTS OF SHIELD!" in their headquarters. The effort they've put into buoying the show this season has been less than zero. There are enough things they could do to create hype for American Crime without putting a trailer for a Marvel movie in it when they have a Marvel show on their network.
On the one hand, I understand what you're saying. On the other hand, unless they go back in time and bring Young Peggy to the present, or de-age Elderly Peggy or whatever... Steve is never going to get to be with her. And it's sad to think of him being alone for the rest of his life. She eventually let go of him and found happiness with someone else, he should too.
(I am only referring to the last sentence in your comment, by the way. Not a Steve/Natasha shipper at all.)
WORD to that last sentence. People don't appreciate platonic friendships enough. I find they are typically better-written than romance, actually, considering that most shows and movies can't manage to do romance without it being melodramatic, heavy-handed and cheesy.
I really liked the contrast between Steve and Natasha's personalities - the idealistic boy scout vs. the double-crossing, sketchy spy - and how it played into the plot of Winter Soldier. With the Hydra infestation of SHIELD, Steve finds himself in a morally grey world of lies and deception that is so far away from everything he knows, so of course his greatest ally is someone who is so well-versed in operating in that grey zone.
Exactly, I love many platonic friendships like Ichabod/Abbie (Sleepy Hollow) or Joan/Sherlock (Elementary), I'm not against romantic ships I've enjoyed many of them but I find that platonic ships have an interesting dynamic. I think the MCU has done a good mix of both so far.
Yeah it was so great and really friendship is so important to Steve's character just look at his closeness to Bucky and how that drives the film as well.
I don't know how many times I have watched TWS but I feel like I have missed some shipper cues from those two compared too that one fraction of a second Bruce/Natasha scene that practically screams SHIP!
I think they don't care because I think from their perspective AoS is pretty self sufficient... it has it's audience... that audience will find the show and flock to it...
It sucks but I think it shows some kind of faith that AoS can handle itself.
Lou let me weigh in by saying that I agree with you and Alex very much that platonic, story driven, well developed character interactions are sometimes rare and hard to do and are too often done wrong.
In the case of Steve and Natasha I'd say a platonic friendship is very workable but there was lots of flirting between them in Winter Soldier and I admit it worked well and was fun to watch. "bye, bye bikinis".."yeah, I'm I'm sure you look terrible in them."
The challenge with committing Steve to a romantic pairing is that he's kind of all over the place. And not by his doing. On the one hand we fully expect something to develop between Steve and Emily Vancamp's Agent 13. Its practically destiny. There's also the fact that Steve and Natasha grew closer and developed a stronger sense of trust between them in Winter Soldier. Add to that the flirting and of course anyone would be right to think Cap and Black Widow would be great together. It makes sense. That's two. Then of course there's Peggy. Steve and Peggy are THE love story of the MCU. We haven't seen a final resolution to their situation: I'm sure of it.
I'll end by saying that having Natasha get emotionally or romantically closer to Bruce makes sense because it serves the plot purpose of keeping the Hulk anchored to something in Bruce's heart. Basically it gives him something to calm down for. In Avengers it was his friendship with Tony Stark when he saved him from falling to his death when the wormhole closed. In Avengers Age of Ulton I expect it will be his connection to Natasha that will keep him grounded. Otherwise there's nothing for the monster to come home to.
Yeah, but so many people gave up on AoS during its weak early episodes, and only a major hook like a guest spot from an Avenger - or the premiere of an Age of Ultron trailer - could get them to check out the show again. They tried that once, but then some douchebag leaked the trailer (SMH). They ought to give it another shot. The show is so much better now that if they could just get a decent number of people to give it one more try, I think the ratings could gain permanently. Right now, the ratings are at about the bare minimum sufficient for a renewal, and that's just frustrating.
You know with the show being two seasons old now it's hard to get a fresh audience with tropes like these. Especially when there are serialised elements and a larger universe tie in.
Netflix and DVDs is the way to attract new eyeballs.
As I said it's not optimum but I get why they aren't putting that much effort in this kind of a promo push.
Still, I don't think it will save a sinking show that is Aos so better yet capitalize on their strongest night of the week. So wait, Thursday is ABC's biggest night right in terms of A18-49 (Thanks to Shonda Rhimes)
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
If this helps AC's ratings I'm all in. Smart move ABC, smart move!
ReplyDeleteKnew we would be getting one! Wonder if we will finally see Vision or if they are holding that back till the movie.
ReplyDeleteWhy not air the trailer during the AoS mid-season premiere? AC already has the best lead-in ABC has to offer.
ReplyDeleteNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it's supposed to be STEVE and Natasha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ARGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI was expecting they'd air it with AoS... oh well...
ReplyDeleteNot so sure how I feel about that Bruce/Natasha thing...
it makes ME throw up, it was supposed to be Steve after all they went through in Winter Soldier
ReplyDeletewould you want to be surprised or would you want at least a tease? or do you want Vision in his full glory?
ReplyDeletePart of me wants to be completely surprised and for them to hold off showing him until the movie, but then I wouldn't mind a tease!
ReplyDeleteI'm a Clint/Natasha girl myself.
ReplyDeleteI prefer Steve and Nat as friends.
Steve and Natasha work so much better as friends, like so much. I love the friendship between Natasha/Steve/Sam in that film. Platonic friendships are underrated.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree with this more!
ReplyDeletethey had too much chemistry for me to see them as just friends
ReplyDeleteUpdate with this one.

Tasha and Bruce, interesting. I like it.
ReplyDeleteI thought it would be her and Clint for sure. I didn't see her with Steve at all even if they had chemistry. Evans' Rogers strikes me as a one woman kind of man and unless your name is Peggy, don't hold your breath.
Natasha/Bruce comes from such a left field for me that I'm like "kay, show me"
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for this movie. Natasha and Bruce? No no no, that's all wrong. Me no likely.
ReplyDeleteI LOVED that Steve's closest relationships were friendships, and two as different as Natasha and Sam.
ReplyDeleteI really want to see Steve and Nat's friendship develop more this movie
Wow.
ReplyDeleteYeah, because this movie is all about which ship happens.
Jesus.
Exactly. Right there with ya. And Steve and Nat are friends. They should stay that way.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, at this point I think ABC might as well hang a giant banner that says "WE DON'T CARE ABOUT AGENTS OF SHIELD!" in their headquarters. ReplyDeleteYasssssssss to Bruce x Natasha I'm so here for this!
ReplyDeleteI hear you. I want Steve to move on too.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how many times I have watched TWS but I feel like I have missed some shipper cues from those two compared too that one fraction of a second Bruce/Natasha scene that practically screams SHIP!
I can't speak of Stucky on an objective fashion cause that is my MCU OTP, so juch angst!
ReplyDeleteBut yes, the emotional center of the movie is Steve's and Bucky's relationship, definitely.
And how they open to each other because of it. It is just wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI thought this was premiering tonight with AOS?
ReplyDeleteThe angst god, I was just waiting for the 'Bucky??' line to happen and when it did it broke my heart.
ReplyDeleteExactly. Putting th trailer during American Crime seems so pointless to me.
ReplyDeleteI think they don't care because I think from their perspective AoS is pretty self sufficient... it has it's audience... that audience will find the show and flock to it...

Still not sure about the Bruce/Natasha thing... can't help but think it might be Bruce's hallucination...

WHY the F**K is it ALL about ships?!?!?!
ReplyDeletethank you!

It will definitely give a boost to Shonda Rhime's Thursday line-up.
ReplyDeleteWe just need this week so people get a bit hooked. But I hope for good retention out of Scandal.
ReplyDeleteMake or break for the show I guess.
