Law and Order Special Victims Unit - Undercover Mother - Review
Mar 2, 2015
Law and Order SVU Reviews SCThis episode was full of a lot of surprises, and a lot of returning characters including our favorite fake Irish undercover Lieutenant Declan Murphy. We also got to see someone that I feel that we don't get to see that offend as we should anymore, Dr. Melinda Warner. She delivered some shocking news to Benson at the end of the episode.
It all started with an undercover bust at a brothel. When the detectives brought in a madam named Martha Thorthill, she said that she was undercover. Benson asked for who, she replied, " they have my daughter." Benson took her aside to get the full story. Martha told Benson that her and her daughter were visiting Toronto. When she went to pay the bill, she was gone for no more than couple minutes, when she came back Ariel was gone. Benson didn't believe her, so Martha took them to her apartment where she recorded every lead she had in order to track down her daughter. Benson said herself, Martha is better than any UC they've seen when it comes to recording their work.
But when Barba came into the picture he had a different option. To Barba it's black or write when it comes down to traffickers. To him, she was facing jail time, but Benson was trying to convince him that she was just trying to find her child. Barba finally broke down and agreed to make Martha a deal, if she hands her work over, no jail time, but she is to not go back undercover!
The detectives went to talk to Selena, she was the Madam that brought the girls to the club. Selena mention that she and a pimp named Timmer rotated girls in a party house out in Queens. Martha told the detectives that she has been there and that the madam's name is Tracy. So Benson told the squad to go and check it out, get all the information they could on the place.
When they got there a mini van pulled in the driveway. Timmer and a hand full of girls came out of the van. Tracy walks out of the house pissed to high heaven either because one of the girls was high or because she is unhappy with the order, so she sent Timmer back to get more girls. Carisi and Fin started to follow him and Rollins and Amaro stayed behind to watch the house. But soon Timmer made Carisi and Fin, made a U-turn and lost them. So it was up to Rollins and Amaro to get something, and they did. You can't have a party without beer, well there was a commercial beer truck delivering to a residential house. When Rollins and Amaro took the driver in for questioning he broke down and told them that he know what was going on in the house, but he was just trying to make a living. So Amaro decided to take over his route for the next day, for Super-Bowl Sunday.
When Amaro showed up at the house, Tracy opened the door. He pretended to be a friend of Tommy's, by doing him a favor "because one of his kids is sick or something." At first, Tracy did not want Amaro to come in, but he told her do she want the beer or not? So she let Amaro in and told him to put the cases of beer on the table. When Amaro walked he notice that there were a few under age girls inside the house. That's when they made the bust, but this time Benson told Tracy the Super-Bowl party was going to go on as schedule. Although they were going to have a few more guests, and that there will be a john willing to pay top dollar for snow bunnies. Benson also told Tracy to make sure that Ariel would be at the party.
That night while they waited for Ariel to show up, the detectives got a bit of a surprise. Their old Lieutenant, Declan Murphy, made a little visit. He was undercover as an Irish pimp named the Bishop, working for another pimp Johnny D. That's when the guns came out and Carisi got pistol whipped by Declan, but I'm sure he had that coming at some point...
Benson was really shocked to see Declan at the party, when Amaro and Rollins came in the door to arrests everyone, they were just as surprised to see their old Lieutenant as a pimp. When they got back to the station Amaro took Fin and Declan into questioning, that's when Declan told Benson about Johnny D, and that Timmer sold Ariel to him for $800 because she was damaged goods. But Declan didn't know where Johnny D, keeps his girls. That's when Fin and Rollins pulled Timmer aside and scared him to death by saying. "I'm looking at a dead guy, you're body just doesn't know it yet." Sure enough Timmer told Fin and Rollins where they could find Ariel. When they got to the abandoned hospital they found several girls chained up and they found Ariel with Johnny D holding a piece of glass to her neck. Benson told Johnny D, Killing Ariel, "is it really worth your life, because you kill her, we shot you." Johnny D backed down and let Ariel go.
This episode had a happy ending, a mother and daughter reunited after three years. That doesn't always happen on this show, but it did. It was really great to see the king of undercover Lieutenant Declan Murphy. Although I have a strong feeling we will be seeing him again sometime before the season is over. How could I forget the big shocker at the tail end of the episode. When we found out that Johnny D is Noah's father! Well in a way I'm not shocked because Ellie Porter was a working girl and she was raped by several pimps. But to have a father that is such a monster, poor Noah...
