MASI OKA TO RETURN AS HIRO NAKAMURA ON NBC’S ‘HEROES REBORN’
“Heroes Reborn” to Debut in Fall 2015
UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. — March 27, 2015 — Masi Oka (NBC’s “Heroes,” “Hawaii Five-0”) will reprise his Emmy and Golden Globe-nominated role as Hiro Nakamura for a guest-starring arc of episodes on NBC’s new event series “Heroes Reborn,” which will premiere in fall 2015.
“I’m excited to return to my ‘Heroes’ roots,” said Oka. “Hiro Nakamura was such an inspirational role to play, and I’m hoping the fans will enjoy seeing him back on TV.”
“We are thrilled to have Masi back in the ‘Heroes’ family,” said creator/executive producer Tim Kring. “The character of Hiro Nakamura was such a huge part of the first series’ success, and a gigantic fan favorite. We felt the fans would really love seeing him back in action again.”
Oka can currently be seen in the role of the eccentric Coroner on the hit series “Hawaii Five-0.” He has also recurred on NBC’s “Scrubs” and Fox’s “Luis” and guest-starred on “Without a Trace,” “Joey,” “Reba,” “Still Standing,” “Will & Grace,” “Yes, Dear” and “The Gilmore Girls.” Oka recently appeared in the feature film “JOBS” and is stepping behind the camera on the feature-film adaption of the worldwide phenomenon Japanese Anime “Deathnote,” which he will produce with VIZ Productions, Dan Lin, and Roy Lee. He starred in the feature-film remake “Get Smart” and its companion DVD release, “Get Smarter.” His other feature film credits include “Along Came Polly,” “Austin Powers in Goldmember,” and “Friends with Benefits.”
With a background in improvisation, Oka has appeared at the Groundlings, ImprovOlympics, Second City and guest starred as various characters on “Punk’d,” “Reno 911” and “The Jamie Kennedy Experiment.” He is working with Yoshimoto to bring the famed Second City to Japan and thereby introducing American improv to that market. Oka also works behind the scenes as an advisor to JETRO and a cultural envoy to the U.S. Embassy, bridging the gap between Japan and Hollywood in the arts and business. After graduating Brown University with degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science and a Theatre Arts minor, Oka pursued an acting career while taking his first job at George Lucas’ Oscar-winning special effects house Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) providing technology for groundbreaking effects for more than 30 films. Oka’s strong background in computer science laid the groundwork for his starting Mobius Digital, a gaming company that has successfully launched several apps with more in development. He sits on the Celebrity Cabinet of the American Red Cross. Oka was born in Tokyo, Japan, and moved to Los Angeles at age six, where he currently resides.
From creator/executive producer Tim Kring, who imagined the original critically-acclaimed 2006 “Heroes” series, comes “Heroes Reborn,” an epic 13-episode event series that chronicles the lives of ordinary people who discover they possess extraordinary abilities. The cast includes Jack Coleman (“Heroes”), Zachary Levi (NBC’s “Chuck”), Ryan Guzman (“The Boy Next Door”), Robbie Kay (“Once Upon a Time”), Danika Yarosh (“Shameless”), Judith Shekoni (“The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2”), Kiki Sukezane (“Death Yankee 3”), Henry Zebrowski (NBC’s “A to Z”) and Gatlin Green (“Criminal Minds”).
Produced by Imperative Entertainment, in association with Universal Television, “Heroes Reborn” will air in fall 2015 on NBC. NBC’s digital platforms, as well as Hulu and video-on-demand, will debut an online prequel to the series prior to the show’s premiere. Joining Kring are executive producers James Middleton and Peter Elkoff.

I hope Ali Larter will be back !
ReplyDeleteI don't particularly like this. Nothing against the actor but I always felt he was too "joke-like" to me, didn't feel that much real. In addition, I think all the time travel issues associated with his character were one of the main reasons why the show lost its way.
ReplyDeleteI wish that would happen so much. But I think she said before she doesn't want to.
ReplyDeletewhy not the third triplet ^^ Tracy Strauss was interesting but introducing a new character could be better !
ReplyDeleteHiro wasn't my favourite character but I'm glad that he's back. I would've prefered Peter(and yes, I know that's impossible but I can dream, right?)
ReplyDeleteSo H50 finished shooting so his scheduled open up. Glad that at least one of the old "heroes" will be returning. I wonder if they will bring Ando back too.
ReplyDeleteI really wanted wither Ali, Milo and Zach to return, but all 3 said that they won't be back. Pity.
Ok this series i getting stranger by the day. When i first heard it was a reboot, then all of the people from the old series were never coming back because i was a reboot, now we have Hiro, Noah and Sylar. But my favorite character is not returning Claire. So how will this work a couple of the old characters are returning to a reboot, yet a lot of the old ones are not so what is going on?
ReplyDeleteYay! Hiro is one of my faves!
ReplyDeleteyep the main three need to come back but oh well
ReplyDeleteSylar's NOT coming back
ReplyDeleteI also would find it ten times easier to watch in the summer and if they did fewer than 13 episodes. Seems pretty clear that the show wont be ready by early July though.
ReplyDeleteUgh, I hated him. Moving it will probably turn out to be a bad move too.
ReplyDeleteYep, and she's busy with Legends.
ReplyDeleteYeah! I think they sensed the positive buzz and realized thez could benefit from it more than just a summer show.
ReplyDeleteSo here comes the turn off upgrade.
Event- Series? What is that really, mini-series or limited-series?
ReplyDelete24: LAD was said to be an event series, IIRC.
ok so I never watch heroes watch season 1 only?
ReplyDeleteWhat day could heroes be on that would have stable rating....it likely Monday or Thursday or tuesday at 10
ReplyDeleteCBS is calling Dovekeepers an event series even though it is clearly a 4 hour mini-series. They are doing 13 episodes with a mostly new cast, to me that makes it a limited series. If they were doing fewer episodes (6-10) with most of the original cast, than I think it would be an event series.
ReplyDeleteNo freaking clue. I don't watch NBC shows(besides Undateable) no clue how they stand rating wise.
ReplyDeleteAren't they both the same really? BSG was a mini-series that morphed into a proper series and Ascension was a limited series that could have been a full series but SyFy decided against it. There are probably more examples but those are two ore off the top off my head.
ReplyDeleteBSG aired before terms like event series or limited series were ever used. There was an article in THR over a year ago, and they asked the execs at the networks and several cable channels the differences between the three terms and there were at least 7 or 8 different answers.
ReplyDeleteNiki was my fav! So I hope the tv show gods listen to you!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh I didn't know that, then what about Under the Dome? That was promoted as a mini series I think.
ReplyDeleteSeason 1 is great. There are good episodes in seasons 2 and 3, but season 1 is the only essential season.
ReplyDeletewere you confused on which Zachary it was?
ReplyDeleteYeah i kind of read Zachary Quinto and not Levi.
ReplyDeletetrue that
ReplyDeleteyeah i get that
ReplyDeleteHalf of the reviews of UTD before it aired incorrectly called it a mini series, and I am not sure if that was a mistake on the part of CBS when they sent out their press releases. However, I read several interviews with the writers before it aired and it was always intended as an ongoing limited series in their minds.
ReplyDeleteYikes.
ReplyDeleteSend him back to feudal Japan.
I honestly thought season 3 was decent in the Villains half....Season 4 was decent as well. I think the quality of Season 1 really spoiled viewers so they could only disappoint them going forward, four to me had some great charcter moments IMO, that got eclipsed by Samuel(?) who was a mess of a villain and the first season long villain outside of Sylar...
ReplyDeleteHiro was oen of my favorites i hope his partner comes back with him!
ReplyDeleteMe too! He was fantastic in season one and most of season two.
ReplyDeleteI think she could be convinced....That would make me so happy.
ReplyDeleteI think UTD is a tricky one because I remember everyone expecting it to be one and done with a proper ending, but then it was a ratings success and suddenly the writers had a 3-5 season plan for it.
ReplyDeleteI think 'event series' can mean either 'limited series' or 'mini series' though, since Rosemary's Baby and Wayward Pines were/are called 'event series'. It just sounds better.
this! Combined with Issac's drawings which alter Parkman was able to do?, Hiro's ability made things messy.
ReplyDeleteI read three interviews at least from the writers talking about season 2 before UTD premiered, the writers never intended for the series to be one and done.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait till it starts yay
ReplyDeleteafter they de-powered Peter the show was never good again
ReplyDeleteput him in Adam's coffin, with air holes anyway
ReplyDeleteI have tor respectfully disagree. I think depowering peter was a step in the right direction, him being an empath and having all those powers put him at risk of being a plot device and not much of a character. I liked that he could only mimic one power at a time...it kind of humanized him to me.
ReplyDeleteThey had to de-power Pwter becasue they made him too strong too fast.
ReplyDeleteLikewise with Hiro and Sylar and almost every other hero on the show!
That was the show's core issue honestly. They did not know how to handle developing powers without going overboard to the point of making their heroes gods.
I'm okay with this on surface level...
ReplyDeleteI never liked Hiro since he was such a plot device, but for a limited number o episodes I could enjoy him I think. As long as the show is about the heroes that are new to this reboot I would welcome back many of the past heroes... For very limited episode arcs that is.
how? he was already humanized
ReplyDeleteYEAHH!
ReplyDeletewell that's dumb, they made a point to say in the show that Peter was the most powerful hero of them all
ReplyDeleteLike with what @DarqueMode said, it was too much too fast.
ReplyDeleteWatching Peter realize he could only have one gift after having so many many presented a conflict with the character that was relate able. Having it all to watch it come crashing down and only have a semblance of what once was.
Most annoying character on TV....
ReplyDeleteMaybe we're lucky and we somehow get Adrian Pasdar back
ReplyDeleteNooo. Nathan should stay dead this time.
ReplyDeletewell, technically he did stay dead.
ReplyDeleteBut yeah, it's a last straw of mine to get back some older castmembers I did care about.
No offense to Masi but Hiro was the most annoying part on this show, I'm cool with Jack Coleman returning but Hiro was mainly enjoyable because of the ensemble cast. A formula that can't be repeated with new faces that easily
I agree. I fast forwarded through Hiro scenes the majority of the time as I felt the character was really annoying. though I did like Dark Future Hiro.
ReplyDeleteI think there should be at least one returning female character. Though when I sat and thought about ti, there was no one I cared about that was really left standing other than Claire and Tracy.
definitely!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYATA!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat happens to H50 now?Oh god please don't cancel it!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that Hiro will be reprising his role.he was the best
ReplyDeleteI'm very glad he's returning! ^_^
ReplyDeleteYatta!
ReplyDeleteHow can he be on a NBC series when he's contracted to be on a CBS one? Wouldn't CBS block him from doing it?
ReplyDeleteoh like a fall from grace thing?
ReplyDeleteYatta!!!
ReplyDeleteHe is only guest starring in Heroes Reborn.
ReplyDeleteHe is only guest starring, plus I think H50 is about to finish production.
ReplyDeleteNo, he is only guest starring in Heroes Reborn
ReplyDeleteAs a matter of fact,H50 is shooting their finale episode right now.
ReplyDeleteOh hell yea! 2 out of 3 of my favorites are back!
ReplyDeleteSo excited for this return!
ReplyDeleteYATTA!!!!! Best news ever!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWell, fall starts on September 23rd, if they start on say, the 28th, the first Monday of the fall it would only be a week after every season of Heroes does normally. I'd be okay with that. Maybe it just got pushed a week or so. We never got a target month as far as I know.
ReplyDeleteI hope he shows up looking and acting like Future Hiro. The potential of that being a future for innocent Hiro Nakamura was so fascinating but we never got to see it realized. If Hiro is returning, I hope it's in a context we didn't get to fully explore on the show. Future Hiro as a mentor or Claude-like figure would be very cool.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad they brought in a second character from the original show.
ReplyDeleteNOOOO! He was the dumbest, most boring and ridiculous character of the show! Out of all the previous cast members they chose to bring this one back??? Gee! I was thinking of checking this reboot out but now I definitely won't!
ReplyDeleteThe one character out of all of them I wanted back the most - now the real question is are we getting the change to bad ass Hiro finally? I hope they do a good job with this - the show's first season was epic and had so much potential but then with the writer's strike the whole show went to sh*t...I have hope still - please don't let us old loyal fans down yet again !
