Girls - Ask Me My Name - Review

Girls continued its amazing fourth season last night with an all new episode, titled “Ask Me My Name” on HBO, written by Murray Miller & Jason Kim and directed by Tricia Brock.
It was an half hour of Hannah Show on Girls, and I totally loved it. Hannah hadn’t digested her break up with Adam yet. After the sit-in and trying to become a teacher, Hannah was back in old schemes, sneaking at Mimi-Rose’s art show. But something great, which Hannah didn’t think could happen, happened : Hannah finally realized Mimi-Rose was a great woman, and  that Adam and her can be a great couple.

First, we finally met Hannah as a teacher and it was hilarious. I wish I had a teacher like her, even if she was just a substitute teacher. She was perfect, naming her favorites in class and her lecture on Oedipus led her to MILF.Seriously Hannah, I love you. Then Hannah met with another teacher, Fran in the teacher lounge. I get Hannah’s excitement to actually be in the teacher lounge, it’s a mysterious place for students.
I must admit I very much enjoyed Hannah and Fran’s interactions He was a bit weird, but really charming and funny. Their first date was going very well, Hannah mentioning how her former art teacher got fired after doing a porn movie. They were super cute and I wish Hannah didn’t crush their date. Fran deserved better.

Hannah asked Fran to go to some lame art show, just to check it out. It turned out it was Mimi-Rose’s art show. Marnie and Devi were also there, as was Jessa. Marnie tried to get some sense into Hannah but she was so narrow minded. She felt like a crazy person in a way, so obstinate and fulled with lies. She pretended her break-up was healed and there was no big deal for her to be there… God, a disaster was coming. I loved how Marnie left with Devi when Adam came. She knew it would get messier quickly.
Adam was furious Hannah was there, pretending to be casual about it. I get why Adam was angry but seriously, that guy has some real anger issues. I can’t stand him when he’s all like that. I seriously don’t get how two wonderful girls such as Hannah and Mimi-Rose could ever fall in love with that man. Anyways, Fran left Hannah with Adam, because it was super weird. Who brings her first date at her ex boyfriend’s new girlfriend’s art show ? Someone not interested in that first date at all… The tension was very high between Adam and Hannah and it was Mimi-Rose who released it. She seemed really happy and delighted to see Hannah. So weird.
Mimi-Rose invited Hannah at the after party, because she also has invited her ex, Ace. Former partners are okay, not big of a deal, for Mimi, they’re a part of. it was even weirder now that they were four, Mimi Rose and Adam, and their exes.

Hannah and Mimi-Rose rode together in a cab to go to that after party and it was one epic ride. They talked about the art show, I loved how Hannah hid her true feelings about it. Then, Mimi-Rose started talking about her book and writing, making Hannah even more uncomfortable because she had stopped writing (since what, two weeks ?). Hannah wanted to try another road, asked for a turn and the cab driver hit an old woman crossing the street. It was so shocking (so many car accidents last night on HBO). and yet so funny.
Hannah and Mimi-Rose were really great together, and Hannah took time but she finally allowed herself to know Mimi-Rose as a person, and not as the woman who stole Adam from her. Mimi-Rose is a great person, she really cares for others, she tries to say something to the world in her own way. She is a lot similar to Hannah, yet she’s very different.
When she explained how she came up with the idea of her art show, Mimi-Rose became a great character in my eyes. Her speech and her reflection on how the world is so anonymous now, where we don’t care for others people, they’re just people with no names. During the whole episode, she spent her time asking for people names (the cab driver, the old lady….), it’s the first step to establish contact with someone else.

Hannah totally cracked me up when she said to Mimi-Rose that learning more about her physically pained her. Hannah discovered Mimi-Rose was great, and she is very gifted at what she does. Her future book will probably be a best seller, and it forces Hannah to face her failures and dreams.
Mimi-Rose expressed her doubts too, about herself and her work. She feared everyone sees her the way Hannah does. They’re both talented yet insecure girls. And they also have Adam in common, but Mimi-Rose really surprised me when she told Hannah she would distance herself from Adam, to let Hannah take back her place. She just wants people to be happy and she never wanted to steal Adam from Hannah.

While Mimi Rose was getting to know Hannah better, Adam took a cab with Ace, Mimi-Rose’ex played by the wonderful Zachary Quinto. Their ride wasn’t as fun as Hannah and Mimi-Rose’s. I’m sure I’ll probably like Ace as much as I love Adam. Ace was a jerk, talking trash about Mimi-Rose, how everything was an act and then finally admitted he was still in love with her, and always will be. Bam.
That also crushed Jessa’s plans, it turned out she introduced AdAm to Mimi-Rose, so Ace would be free for her. That’s just evil Jessa….

“Ask Me My Name” was a great episode. I have missed watching Hannah for a whole episode, without the other girls. I know may people complain about it, but I’m very fond of the Hannah Show and she was exceptionally great last Sunday. She finally accepted Adam was happy with Mimi Rose and she should move on. Finally.
Did you like “Ask Me My Name” ? Are you happy about Zachary Quinto’s debut ? What do you think of Mimi Rose ? Hit the comments !

Girls notes:

- Hannah and Mimi-Rose's protest to free and accessible toilets was great. I'm with you girls
- Writing a poem and making a friend in less than 2 minutes. I hate Mimi Rose too
