It has not been officially announced yet but I can tell you “Fear The Walking Dead”, the inevitable spin-off, is ordered to series a few weeks after the pilot was shot. It can’t come as a surprise since the original show is such a success for AMC.
Described as a family drama, Fear The Walking Dead (previously known as Cobalt) takes place in Los Angeles and will tell the story of the early days of the epidemic through the eyes of a family, without any tie with the comic books.

Cobalt was a more interesting title - even Cobalt: FTWD, but I suppose it could've been worse - TWD: LA

ReplyDeleteIf it were Americans in Europe, maybe. They could always have a dystopian version but I would guess that would undermine the current shows.
ReplyDeleteNice that it doesn't have any ties to the comics, so that the story line can go into any direction and you won't know who lives or dies because it has yet to be written.

ReplyDeleteWhy cold? The comic book has already shown that walkers don't move in the freezing cold. People barely move in the freezing cold. And food is scarce. So we have episodes of no walker activity, and people stealing or killing for food, or freezing to death. The3y should just forget it.

ReplyDeleteI figure between seasons, not between blocks. That way you can still space the two out a bit for those who may want a breather.
ReplyDeleteIt probably depends on how many episodes you do.
Between blocks, you could probably do 6-8 episodes. Between seasons, you could easily do up to another 16.
Like everything but the LA angle. Makes it seem like one of those horrible SyFy zombie movies. :(

ReplyDeleteI would do no more than 13 episodes for season 1. Give the writers/producers a chance to figure out what the show is in season 1 without forcing them to go up with story lines for 16 episodes.

ReplyDeleteSince the spin-off is set in the early days of the "Zombie' virus / outbreak I think it would be very interesing if past characters from "The Walking Dead" made cameo appearences ... like sa in newscasts or showing little glimpses of how it has affected the rest of the world.
ReplyDeleteIt might even be interesing if certain characters ( where it's possible ) on "The Waking Dead" in present day Atlanta were actually going through the beginning of the outbreak in LA
I see many actors and actress doing multiple shows and had no problems. EX Daniel Gillies did both Saving Hope and The Original but recently signed off on Saving Hope so he can focus on TO. That saying he was on SH for 3 yrs before TO last yrs so he was exhausted alot lol.

ReplyDeleteHow can they possibly hope to sell this as a "prequel"? Especially since they keep hinting at crossovers and 1 character from this is supposedly popping up in the ASZ for 6 episodes next season.
ReplyDeleteIf that character pops up it can't possibly be a prequel because Rick and co WERE NOT there in the early days...
Even if you ignore that a prequel is just a terrible idea. A companion show however, which keeps time with TWD could be good though I guess we won't be seeing that!!!

ReplyDeleteThe reason why I think they may try a week day is if the show runs inbetween TWD that means that there will be atleast 24 (at most 32) episodes of TWD in a row which sounds risky in terms of over saturation. Having FTWD on Tuesday/Wednesday maybe and then TWD on Sunday sounds better. Plus they'll be airing a show midweek which is a big deal for them. I don't know. My two cents.
ReplyDeleteI, like a lot of people who haven't read the comics books, don't know that. TWD hasn't show what winter's like or how its around the colder states.
ReplyDeleteAssuming the second season of Fear gets a 16 episode order, I don't think over-saturation is too much of an issue. There's roughly 30 weeks between each season of TWD. You can easily do the spin-off on a Sunday during the halfway point between seasons, making the overall hiatus feel much shorter. You'd be down to about six weeks between the B season and Fear, and then another six-ish weeks between Fear and the A season.

They absolutely could do Fear on another day of the week, a la Better Call Saul and Turn season 2. But we know it's definitely airing in mid-to-late-summer.
I think they're liable to air Fear Sundays at 9 as a lead-in for Halt & Catch Fire at 10.
I just wonder if they'd do another talk show for Fear.
Okay, well, you don't have to wonder now, why they don't film episodes to show what it's like. I can't say that I've ever heard Kirkman explain why they don't do that.
