Empire – The Lyon’s Roar - Review: Jamal's moment

This week’s episode The Lyon’s Roar of Empire was another solid entry. Empire is juicy and far from boring.

Locious was busy between sleeping again with Cookie, and calming down Anika. What he didn’t know is that at the episode the whole situation would actually end up in a chaos. (Anika will actually goes to Berretti and betray him too) Meanwhile Cookie’s plans to get Empire more and more crowd recognition involved realizing a family album celebrating Lyon Dinasty and a documentary. The result of it is one of the best songs yet: a You are so beautiful family version of Locious' former hit.

But this week heart and soul was Jamal. At the beginning of the episode he meets the new film maker of the documentary who is a possible future love interest. They discuss about coming out, and Jamal is certainly agreeing with his point of view. I also loved how he acts like a father: The Lion sleeps tonight thing was such a cute moment. But the best is yet to come! After talking with his father about the importance of giving truth to the music, during the documentary’s party he comes out! And he does that singing his father hit’s You are so beautiful adding just this new lyric “it’s the kind of song which makes a man love a man” . It was the perfect way, I literally loved this moment and how the family (except for Lucious, obviously) was really joyful and proud of him.

Hakeem was busy with Naomi Campbell’s character. One of the best moment of the episode was Cookie’s words fight with her: she destroyed the cougar. What I really appreciate about Hakeem is how he is loyal to his brother and his congratulations with Jamal at the end of the episode shows how this brothers’ bond is strong and sincere.
The only crazy variable of the story remains Andre: after his father refusal of letting him become the CEO, he goes crazy. At the end of the episode we see him playing the Russian Roulette risking death in front of a laptop. The worst is yet to come!

All in all I truly enjoyed again Empire. The Lyon’s Roar is just the perfect kind of entertainment, and it is increasing its ratings every week. It’s a monster hit which will not be forgotten easily. Just don’t forget: #TeamCookie, always.

And you? What do you think of this episode?

  1. Thanks for the review. This is not the kind of show I'd usually watch, but it has grown on me a lot. I loved Jamal's coming out song as well as the scenes near the end between him and Hakeem. Andre's reaction to not being made temporary CEO was scary. Of all three brothers, I think he has the saddest relationship with his father. When Lucious announced that he had ALS, Andre also seemed more upset about what it would do to the company than the fact that his father was terminally ill. I missed parts of the earlier episodes, but Andre acts like someone who is in serious financial trouble or debt......or maybe his reaction had more to do with the mental illness that they've alluded to.

  2. Thanks to you for reading. I agree with you! Andre has the worst father-son relationship with Lucious. I like how the writers are finally giving significance to this character. Next week's episode seems to be focused on him
