With Netflix raising the bar on what’s acceptable on the small-screen, Marvel fans have one character right at the top of their wishlist for a Daredevil spin-off, and showrunner Steven DeKnight is of the same mind.
“I’ve been a huge fan of the Punisher comics for years,” says DeKnight, speaking exclusively to SciFiNow.”I’d love to see him get his due on a platform like this. Nothing would delight me more than to see the Punisher get his own show and maybe we could convince Marvel to go Hard-R rating. If any character deserves an R rating, it’s the Punisher.”
Indeed, bearing in mind the various blood-splattered scenes we’ve seen in the trailer, we can see the Punisher fitting seamlessly into the world, perhaps as a character who faces off against Daredevil. Considering the similarities between the two characters, it would be a great face-off, something that series Charlie Cox agrees with.

I think Marvel and DeKnight should wait to see how Daredevil turns out first before diving into a character many people have brought to the screen and all have met negative outcomes.

ReplyDeleteThey're not spinoffs. They're separate projects helmed by different EPs. They're linked by the Defenders mini and Marvel's "it's all connected" mantra.
ReplyDeleteIt's only natural to see what reception is to DeKnight's first Marvel project before handing him a second, more problematic project.
I don't know if I would consider the other Netflix shows spinoffs of Daredevil (except for The Defenders maybe) but I do think Marvel expects them to be a huge succes.

ReplyDeleteA spin-off is a show that originates within the context of another show. Since Jessica Jones will be introduced on Daredevil her show is a spin-off of that.

Now, if she didn't show up on Daredevil I would agree but it's launching from Daredevil, thus it's a spin-off
Wesley Snipes is pushing hard for Blade 4 and I doubt they'll ever do another Blade television series (yep, there was one on SpikeTV a couple of years ago)

ReplyDeleteDoesen't matter where the idea originates from, if you produce a piece of media and try to get something rolling the first released product is the mother-ship, everything that follows is spun-off from that, nevermind the conception

I see it all more like a shared universe, the shows were conceived individually but at the same time and all four shows are meant to lead the way to the defenders so...I think is more complicated than all being spinoffs . I'd actually could agree to say they're all spin-off of each other.

Sticking a character in a show for introductory or cameo purposes doesn't make the subsequent project a spinoff if they were all conceived and planned concurrently as one initiative. It's not a spinoff.

ReplyDeleteThe problem here and the confussion is the fact that all four shows were conceived at the same time and with a bigger plan in mind. Its hard to say what they are, as I said in my other comment Id just call it shows in a shared universe.

I agree with Bruce_F. The Defenders series are not spinoffs. Arguing that would be arguing that the Inhumans movie is a spinoff of Agents of Shield or Black Panther is a spinoff of Captain America Civil War.

ReplyDeleteYes make it happen plz!. I always said a Punisher TV series is a better idea then the films bc you can't really redeem his character in 2 hrs on screen. Its takes time for someone to redeem themselves and given how bad ass his character i can see this working.
