Chasing Life - One Day (Season Finale) - Advance Preview

Mar 23, 2015

I can’t believe it’s already time for the season finale of “Chasing Life.” But it’s almost here, and we have the advance preview. Of course, we won’t give away any big spoilers. But we do have some fun teasers that will pique your interest. And since the ABC Family promo has already revealed one big spoiler, that’s free game. So let’s start there.

Yes, Leo is indeed proposing. It kind of ticks me off that they showed this in the promo. But they did, so it’s out there. (The promo is posted below). Leo and April are in a good place. As April struggles to deal with her bad news, Leo is there for her like he never has been before. It’s quite sweet to watch. He’s the one in the position of support this time and he plays his role well, showing how much he’s grown to love her. After he proposes, April does indeed give him an answer. Of course, we can’t tell you what it is.

April’s cancer relapse is the main focus of the episode – how she feels about it and how she deals with the news. The promo is a little misleading when we hear her prognosis of two to six weeks to live. (If you like sneak peeks, watch the one below and you can get the full context of that conversation.) But the doctor does tell April she has to undergo another round of chemo. Obviously she’s been dealt a bad hand and she realizes she will have to miss out on a lot in her life once again. But as usual, April is strong for her family and friends. She always wants to take care of everyone else, which is a great strength. But my favorite part of the season finale is a scene in which she finally has to deal with her emotions. She can’t keep them bottled up any longer, being strong for everyone else. Be on the lookout for this poignant scene as she comes to terms with how she really feels.

As if she needs another challenge, April also learns that her newspaper is laying off a number of employees. So she has to wait and see what happens with her position, knowing she already has to leave work again to resume chemotherapy. April has always loved her job – that has been one of the things that keeps her going, one of the things that makes her feel normal, one of the aspects of life she’s “chasing.” So with everything else changing around her, she really doesn’t want to lose this, too. While we can’t tell you what happens, we can say that Raquel really is proving to be an ass. She has had her nice moments in the past, but the way she talks to April in the midst of these decisions left me wanting to slap the woman.

As for the other characters, Brenna is moving along with her plans to be a bone marrow donor. And we see a new character introduced who really intrigued me. He is a young man who is also being treated for cancer. He will tie in to Brenna’s storyline. I really liked where this was headed. It left me excited for season two. The addition of his character should add a new dimension to the stories.

Sara gets a chance to reconnect with George. Nope, she doesn’t turn around and go home after seeing George kiss another woman. She still approaches him at the conference and they get a chance to catch up. I was happy to see George once again – he was a character I always liked and I couldn’t figure out why he left the canvas. Sara and George are still feeling things out with each other. But when he hears the news about April, he wants to lend his support.

Finally, after April and Natalie’s big fight, they are not in the best place. So when April needs her bone marrow, will Natalie still be willing to give it? You’ll get an answer to that question. Plus, April and Natalie have a scene together that I really enjoyed.

The season finale of “Chasing Life” airs Monday, March 23 at 9/8c. Make sure to check it out. Then come back to SpoilerTV and tell us your thoughts.

What are you looking forward to seeing in the finale? Any guesses on who the new character is? What do you think April's response to Leo will be? Leave your comments below.

  2. This episode was awesome! Great season!
Can't wait to see season 2 now. But with those ratings.... :(

    ReplyDelete
  3. Thanks for this Tonya. Just finished watching it before and wow, I'm a mess. I need to vent haha. I absolutely loved that scene you mentioned, the "poignant" scene. I agree with you, definitely the best scene of the finale. Italia Ricci was amazing performing during it, I was in tears.
Also, the proposal at the end, for a moment I thought they were going to make it a cliffhanger so we wouldn't know her answer because I could see the credits at the bottom and there was that long silence, but I sighed with relief that we got an answer haha. Cannot wait for season 2 now. Great preview!

  4. I'm glad she said yes to him and I also loved finale!!

  5. I would guess Brenna is at the hospital meets a teenage boy, they have a conversation and form a bond, and Brenna figures out he is the person that is getting her bone marrow (it is anonymous) but she does not tell him.

    ReplyDelete
  6. are you screwing with us?!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  7. i saw somewhere that they think it's Julian

    ReplyDelete
  8. where are you able to watch this episode?

    ReplyDelete
  9. I thought about him for a second but read Tonya's review again and it says "new character". My second guess is Brenna does not figure it out but the show reveals that he is the one that is getting Brenna's bone marrow.

  10. Samy how did you watch the chasing life episode of the spring finale? I can't find the episode nowhere.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Oooh! I so wanna see this...But I also hate to see the season end, and I know I'm going to be a big, blubbering mess! Bear with me while I process all this.

I'm guessing that "poignant scene" is the sledgehammer freakout we've seen little bits of, right? Yup...Even the little bit I've seen tells me Italia did an AMAZING job with that, just like so many other big scenes. I still can't understand how she seems to be so underrated as an actress! Give this girl her freakin' Emmy already!

And how's April possibly going to handle the job thing? The sneak peeks show us her telling Dominic she doesn't want to just go into Raquel's office and ask for another month off given the layoff situation. But how can she do much of anything else? She's supposed to check into the hospital the next day, and she can't very well just call in for something like that!

And oh, Natalie! PLEASE step up and do the right thing! I guess they've still got Sara as a half match if all else fails, but c'mon! Just like we were told would happen, we've gone from hating Natalie to warming up to her a bit to hating her again. There's gotta be some kind of redemption there!

As for Brenna, I still wonder if the bone marrow donation could be a way for them to let everyone in on the secret abortion. As if they need more drama! But the pregnancy question is bound to come up in all the testing they do beforehand. And a young man, huh? Well, I know Italia posted a picture from a season two table read last week, and Robbie Amell was right in the thick of it sitting next to her! She never gave any explanation, either, so hmmm...*LOL* My wheels are turning!

And the proposal!!! Oh, please tell me that "guest" isn't just messing with us and she actually says yes...Then actually gets to do the whole wedding thing happy and healthy later on!

*LOL* Ok...I think I'm done! Sounds like this one's gonna leave us satisfied without too much left completely up in the air, and that makes me a happy girl!

  12. I am hoping the ratings this summer will be back to where they were last summer and ABC Family will continue the show as a 13 episode a season summer show. I would be very surprised if they up the season 2 order to 20 ( and there are a few other shows they should consider doing fewer episodes as well IMO) and air it next winter. I am concerned though that the show will not air this summer because of a lack of spots available due to having two new dramas.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Not worried at all about Natalie changing her mind. She has built relationships with several people that are a part of April's life (Beth, Dom) and has really bonded with Brenna, in a way it is not only about her relationship with April.

    ReplyDelete
  14. PLEASE please say you aren't screwing with us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Well... I don't want to say because it will give it away. I want to... but I can't. Ahhhh... it's too hard. ;) I thought the whole episode was good, though. So I think you'll enjoy it.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I enjoyed it, too. I hope the ratings pick up because I really like the show a lot!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Samy & Gavin are part of the SpoilerTV team, so that's why they got to see an advance screener of the episode. Otherwise it is nowhere to be found. But only five days left.... :)

    ReplyDelete
  18. I don't know where this person got that info. With them leaving an alleged spoiler without any info, I'd have to say I think they were screwing with us. Not to say that they aren't right - or wrong. Haha. But I'm not sure if they were speaking from a place of seeing the episode. I'm hoping no one leaves spoilers here... just because not everyone wants to hear them. But I know some do (like you)! Sorry. :(

    ReplyDelete
  19. I hope the ratings will grow in the summer, too. I really do hope they up the order to 20 (21 w/ Christmas episode), but I will take 13 if that's what we get. Thanks for your perspective on that - you may be right. I really do think it will air in the summer as planned, but you never know. It's always hard to say. The cast is just starting to film season 2 now so at least we know there IS a season two!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Gavin watched it as part of the SpoilerTV team. In other words, he was lucky - because it's not out there for anyone to watch yet.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Thanks, Gavin! That scene really was a great one, wasn't it, Gavin? Italia Ricci was wonderful. I thought she was great all throughout the episode. But that scene left me in tears, too. BTW, I thought the same thing as you - it seemed like we weren't going to get an answer to the proposal. I thought... nooooooo! But I was happy they didn't leave it as a cliffhanger. I also can't wait for season 2! Yay!!!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Not sure if you've seen the episode - but if you have somehow, please try not to leave any spoilers. Thank you!! I do think people will enjoy the finale, though!

    ReplyDelete
  23. That's a really good guess. Let's see if you're right! :)

    ReplyDelete
  24. Good guess but johnhelvete is right - it's a new character. So not Julian.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Yes you're right - it's a new character. So another great guess w/ a different version of your first thought. I like what you're thinking!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Thanks for your thoughts and comments, Leslie! I know - I hate to see the season end, too. But it was a good one in terms of finales. Sometimes in finales you have to be a big, blubbering mess! That's half the "fun." Lol. Yes, you are right about the "poignant" scene being the sledgehammer freakout scene. Italia was AMAZING in it. Just fantastic. It's even better when you see the whole thing in context!! I can't wait for you to see it. April is definitely nervous about all the job stuff! For all the reasons that you mention. I think they did a great job of letting us know how important this decision is for her. I will say this about Natalie - outside of the bone marrow decision, she feels bad about April's relapse and shows compassion. That's a smart prediction on the secret abortion coming up during the bone marrow process. That makes sense - we'll have to see if you're right. ;) And that's a fun guess about Robbie Amell being the new guy. Wouldn't that be cool?! I would love that! I'm still not sure where the "guest" got that info about the answer to the proposal - so I'm sticking with the "no spoilers" rule on that one. Haha. I love the idea of April planning a wedding, though. You are right about the episode leaving us without too much up in the air. Most things get resolved or just start new chapters and questions. So I think you'll really like the episode. :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. Natalie does have a lot of relationships that tie into April now. That's a good point. :)

    ReplyDelete
  28. It will be interesting to see what ABC Family does this summer because their new show Stitchers seems like an obvious choice to air after PLL. The other new drama, Recovery Road might not be ready by summer, but they will still have SAB, Fosters and Chasing Life....they either have to air a show at 9pm on Wed after the comedies or one show will not be on this summer.

    ReplyDelete
  29. cool, i can see how hard you want to say LOL

    ReplyDelete
  30. i still find it strange that on site called SPOILER tv you still can't spoil stuff LOL. i guess it's ok but i NEED it so bad LOL

  31. ANOTHER secret Carver? LOL

  32. oh wait they give us satisfaction?

I need y'all job so I can get homework finished. I seriously can't think about school and this has only made it worse. UGH! Guess it's a good thing it's on Monday, but still...History test & Chemistry test. bleu

    ReplyDelete
  34. how do you we apply to be part of the SpoilerTV Team?

    ReplyDelete
  35. At the end of each Season around July/August we put a call out for new writers to cover any shows that we currently don't have writers for. We normally get around 200 applicants for around typically 5-6 shows.

If successful then the person joins the team.

  36. Hi Tonya, I thoroughly enjoyed your preview. As I've mentioned before, I am sure I'm not part of the targeted demographic for this show. My guess is the viewership skews more female, but even if not, certainly my age puts me outside the target. Just the same I really enjoy this show. Must have been all those years in the 90s watching the original 90210 with my, then, teen daughter, lol. I thought this week's episode was a great setup for the finale. I am also looking forward to it, but probably because I'm a bit older, I can wait until Monday. In fact I might not see it on DVR until Tue or Wed. I did watch the sneak peeks before I read your preview. I completely agree with you about the misleading promo. I'm glad I saw sneak peek #1 to provide context. I actually think it was a little mean, but brilliant of ABC Family to include the proposal in the promo. That will certainly get people to tune in. It will be fun to discuss afterward. I have to say, also, that while I am always impressed with your writing talent, I read many of the comments and was even more impressed with how you manage people wanting to know all the answers now. Good work. I'm more interested in having it unfold before my eyes, but I think I'm in the minority these days. :)

    ReplyDelete
  37. bruinkelly66 Poor girl, u sound like you're about to burst! i'm not familiar with Chasing Life, but maybe i'll check out the finale--trying to follow 3 shows in one season (Goth, NCIS&Ment.) is hard enough for me, much less 4.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I think George had to leave because he was also playing Brother Michael on the show Helix but he might be back in season 2.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Haha. I know, keeping up with all the TV shows I watch can be exhausting! Lol. But The Mentalist is over now so maybe you can replace it with something else! (Do you like how I'm trying to talk you into more shows?)

    ReplyDelete
  40. Ahh, I haven't been following info about Stitchers. Interesting! Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Haha. I know - with our name, this should really be the place for all spoilers! But with screeners, the networks only like to give them to you if you don't spoil the plots! So we have to abide by the rules so we'll get more screeners! Lol. I understand the need, though!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Ooh, I love that guess! :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. Well, they give us resolution - and maybe satisfaction. Haha. You're working all the angles to get this info! I love it. :)

    ReplyDelete
  44. Haha. I understand. It's too hard to do homework when you have good TV to think about. Lol. Good luck on the tests, though!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Oh, I didn't know that, thanks for the info about George. (Actually, he was also playing a character on the TNT show Murder in the First, which I didn't like.) I guess he's a very busy guy. I hope he's back in season 2 also. My guess is he will be. I agree about Leo. I'm sure he'll be back next season. They have to play out the proposal storyline!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Hi Jack, glad you liked the preview. And glad the show gets more viewers than the target demographic. I think I'm older than the target, too. So we're both in the same boat. :) You're right - this week's episode was a great setup for the finale. Yeah, I thought the promo was misleading - but those sneak peeks really helped. I think you're right about why ABC Family included the proposal in the promo - it will definitely get people tuning in, and therefore was brilliant, wasn't it? Thanks for your nice comments. It's hard to not be able to tell what happens when you've seen it and people want to know. I'm actually like you - I like the surprise of seeing things unfold before me. But it seems like we are in the minority. I know tons of people who want to know what happens before it hits the airwaves. :)

    ReplyDelete
  47. Tonya, What about Sara & George? I understand no spoilers but one question do they kiss? 😭 I ship them so hard they're definitely my fav couple on this show all I need is a yes or no pleeeeeeease lol

    ReplyDelete
  48. I love them, too! They are so cute together. I was so sad when George left - and happy that he came back! So.... here's what I will say. I feel like Sara & George are still exploring their "thing." They definitely had a lot of chemistry. But because of how they left things - and the kiss Sara witnessed - there's a little awkwardness, too. They were very mature in how they dealt with each other, though. But April's cancer news changes the focus of things. So we have much more to explore between them in season 2! I really liked their interactions and am excited to see where things go from here. :)

    ReplyDelete
  49. oh that makes sense LOL

    ReplyDelete
  50. does he or she feel like they'll recur? it would've been cool it WERE Julian

    ReplyDelete
  51. thanks LOL, trying my hardest to make you slip up HA! that's surprising that they're giving us a resolution. Maybe it's because they didn't know if they were going to be renewed?

    ReplyDelete
  52. and George is also on NCIS : New Orleans. Was that hint about the proposal?! did you slip up>?! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  53. huh i didn't think he'd be back honestly, cool that he is

    ReplyDelete
  54. bruinkelly66 You are trying to talk me into watching more shows aren't you? your "influence" knows no bounds! actually, i will be adding another show soon, Mad Men returns april 5th!

    ReplyDelete
  55. This was awesome, great job. So jealous you've got to see it already. Lol I cannot wait. This show has been such a ride, a really sad, incredible one though. Everyone in this show gives it their all, from the actors, to the writers you can tell they really care about the material and not just theie paycheck. Italia Ricci is incredible at what she does, she's going to be huge if she wants to be. I am so excited for this episode I know its going to be good. And I'm beyond ecstatic for season 2, the hear warming storiea, and the gut wrenching scenes, I love it. Lol Ill be back tonight after the episode :) thabks for the preview though. Kick ass!

    ReplyDelete
  56. *LOL* Did you just inadvertently give away April's answer? No need to go any further with the proposal storyline if she said no! ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  57. Nope... if she says yes then they will have to play out the proposal storyline by planning for a wedding. :) Haha...I've thought it all through so I don't drop hints. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  58. Yay! I love Mad Me, toon. I will actually be reviewing it for SpoilerTVSpoilerTV! So we will have anyore TV to talk about. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  59. It seemed like this person was going to be part of a major storyline.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Good work trying to make me slip up. But it didn't work because I knew I had to be on guard! Lol. I was actually surprised at the resolution too! I thought it would be a cliffhanger and it almost seemed like it was going to be but them she gave an answer. Hmmm... I'm wondering if you could be right. I can't remember when the renewal came in relation to filming.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Thank you souch. I must admit, I was pretty excited see it. But its coming soon for you!! I know what you mean about it being a sad, incredible ride. I really love the show. I like what you said about how you can tell they all care about the material. That really seems so true! I'm excited about season 2 also! This episode is a great one. I hope you enjoy it!! Definitely come back after the episode. Thanks for your kind words!!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Because of the rainy weather here I didn't have to wait a day or two to watch the finale. I really liked it. Italia Ricci was amazing throughout, especially in the "demolition" scene. I really enjoyed Leo in this episode. He shows more and more tenderness and vulnerability with April as their connection grows. I think that is who that character really is. Natalie also stepped up as a supportive person, though she wasn't on screen much. She is a bit unpredictable, but I think she really is or wants to be the supportive sister. Rachel also stayed true to her character. She wants what's best for the newspaper, and by extension her career. I wasn't surprise by her actions, but I was a little surprised by how genuinely sorry she seemed to be by April's relapse. She may have some good in her, maybe. :) I liked Sara and George's interactions, Brenna and Beth were great, and I was tickled that Emma (grandma) said SOB almost every other word. I don't usually find gratuitous swearing funny, but coming from her it was classic. All in all, great episode, and I am looking forward to the summer season. I know you have a lot going on, but I hope you have time to review the ep. or at least reply with your thoughts about the finale. I'd love to hear them. Sorry for the long comment.

  64. Who sings the song in the season finale when Leo and April are kissing by the pool? It says, say you love me; it's your turn....

    ReplyDelete
  65. I found it - the song is called "It's That Simple" by a group called Act As If. It's pretty, isn't it? Here's a youtube link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iTsXLo_NwA0

    ReplyDelete
  66. Hey Jack! So glad to hear you liked the finale. Wish I'd had time to do a full review, but it happened to air right when I was on vacation. So we'll have to chat about it this way. I thought it was a great episode. Italia Ricci was wonderful in it. Especially in that demolition scene, which was fantastic! It left me in tears! I also enjoyed Leo in this episode. He's gone from being a jerk to opening up and being so invested in the relationship with April. It's exactly like you say - it gives him so much more tenderness and vulnerability that makes him such a better character. I agree - that's who he really is, and the best version of himself, which is fun to watch. I liked the developments with Natalie, too. She really has changed a lot to someone who is caring and supportive and not always defensive and rude any more. Yeah, Raquel was always a jerk, wasn't she? Maybe I just hoped she had deeper, better sides. But nope. Haha. She is always doing what is best for her. But I actually was a little surprised by her actions, only because of the gravity of April's situation. I thought maybe it would have forced her to be a little nicer. But she did seem sorry at April's news. I really like Sara and George, and I was happy that the finale left room for them to explore things more in season 2. It WAS funny to hear grandma say SOB all the time, wasn't it? Made me laugh also. Oooh, I also loved the addition of the bone marrow recipient boy who we assume is going to get Brenna's bone marrow. Very cool that they live in the same city and kind of crossed paths. I thought that opened up an intriguing new story for season 2. And when April said yes to Leo's proposal, I kind of thought she gave him a funny look at the end. Did you notice that at all? It made me wonder if she wasn't quite sure of her response. She seemed to think the whole thing was a little odd instead of being thrilled and overjoyed like I would expect. We will have to see about that one, but I thought it was an unusual choice that must have been purposeful. Who knows, though. I was curious if anyone else thought that.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Thanks, Tonya for responding and your input. I am looking forward to season 2 and how they will resolve some of the new story lines, including the new character. Perhaps April will be better and "chasing Life" as a healthy person, and the new character will be "chasing Life" as the person with cancer. It feels like he an Brenna will have a face to face encounter. April's response was interesting. I noticed an editing glitch at the same moment you noticed her reaction. Perhaps the glitch was on purpose. She gives the odd, almost uncertain look you mentioned and lets out a single beat laugh, which also sounded uncertain, awkward. It was from a wider angle two-shot. Then they repeated it on a close up of her. Maybe that was to enhance her uncertain sounding "yes." Earlier we saw her looking at the wedding dress and wondering if she would have a wedding. If the show runners choosing to make the chemo and bone marrow transplant successful, and April has her whole life in front of her, was saying yes the right choice? Or do they choose to have the half-match bone marrow not work and have this possibly be her only chance at a wedding and marriage. I actually have no guess. Do you? I will say one last thing about Raquel: I didn't dislike her as much as it seems like you did this episode, but then you have worked in that business and have known people like her. I might not be seeing her for who she really is. Thanks for the great conversations during season 1. I'm going to get caught up on the past couple of episodes of NCIS LA now. I got a little disappointed by some mid-season episodes, but reading recent comments it sounds like the main character interactions are taking center stage again. Take care.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Oops, in the above comment toward the end when I was talking about Raquel I left out an important word: "May". It should have read: "you have worked in that business and MAY have known people like her."
