I just finished the first episode and I can see where my weekend is going. Every free hour, I'll be on Netflix to finish this.
ReplyDeleteIt's moody, which I love and it has great actors. I love Kyle Chandler's spooky narration.
It does drag a little but it's early. I'm hoping they're just laying the story.
-I believe Danny is a murdering psychopath. I could be wrong but he's something NOT GOOD.
-I think Kevin is a punk and a coward. So far.
-I think their father was abusive and the mom, clueless.
-The cinematography is beautiful, the direction is great.
I just binge-watched all 13 episodes! I'll definitely re-watch it.
ReplyDeleteOMFG! Bring on Season 2! We're
allowed to say F because that bomb is dropped
like a bagillion times. :)
I
loved Damages. Same kinds of shocking twists and turns, as well as a slow burn pacing.
Kyle
Chandler shows much more range than I've ever
seen him play. Excellent. He plays very well against the equally excellent black sheep brother. Excellent acting all around.
I would use eps 12 and 13 as Chandler's Emmy reels.
:) But there are many good eps in between 1 and 13.
I agree the cinematography is gorgeous. Stick with it. It is shockingly GOOD.
ReplyDeleteI finally finished this and I didn't love every episode but I really like it. There are several episodes that I will watch again. It's a melodrama and the pace is not as fast as I like but there is just something about the spooky, family noir that I love. The actors are amazing. (the actress used to play a young
ReplyDeleteSally Rayburn looked exactly like a young Sissy Spacek) It is addictive because even though it is slow paced, each episode leaves you absolutely needing to know what happened to this family, so you have to watch the next episode. You have to know. It's unique and just when you think you know who the villain is in this story, you find out you don't.
My only true gripes are-
-Slow Pace
-Not a fan of Meg or Kevin
-John's murder case seemed at times to be a completely separate show but it all came together.
-It's sacrilege to see a Kyle Chandler character making out with anyone not played by Connie Britton
I just finished, IT WAS REALLY AWESOME!! There were one or two episodes very slow paced and with not a lot happening in them, but it was a really good first season overall! The actor playing Danny should be nominated for the Emmys or something!
ReplyDeleteGold Derby has Chandler in the Emmy running for lead actor and Mendelsohn in supporting actor category. (He can't be a lead. Think about it.) Both Spacek and Cardinelli are in the Supporting actress category. All are deserving of some Emmy love.
ReplyDeleteI'm curious to find out what Sally already knows, or think she knows. (The PI and Danny's letter, plus her confession to the PI.)
Kevin....I thought in Florida they drowned the stupid babies? How did this guy get to be his age and live?
ReplyDeleteYou can go over to Gold Derby and vote for Emmy noms. Kyle Chandler is in the best actor drama category. Ben Mendelsohn is in the supporting actor category. Both Sissy Spacek and Linda Cardinelli are in the supporting actress category. And of course, the series is up for best drama. I though the entire cast was stellar. Ben was amazing. Kyle and Ben playing off of one another was amazing, especially in episode 12. I'd submit Eps 12 or 13 for Kyle, 12 for Ben, and 13 for Sissy and Linda.
ReplyDeleteI'm re-watching and finding a lot of holes in what the remaining Rayburn siblings think they pulled off. Starting with a Seahorse necklace John left on tree log where he was sitting. Oh, and I loved when John was in the hospital, should have been smelling like the sea and had silt in his hair. Nope. Not a trace of it in the hospital or questions about what happened. The figure that witnessed John and Kevin leaving Danny's Miami apartment (I think it's the kid who shows up at the end. Whoa, his mother must be a piece of work.) There's the PI, former detective, who somehow knows Sally's children lied to her. And then, there is the drug dealer John framed. That's just off the top of my head!
ReplyDeleteDo you think this will come to bite them next season?
