Bates Motel - A Death in the Family - Advance Preview + Teasers

It’s best to make your reservations now because the Bates Motel re-opens their doors to the public this Monday for it’s third season! However because we aren’t the general public, A&E have been kind enough to allow us at a look through the season opener. We obviously can’t say much so here is a very short review (because I suck at writing without giving away major spoilers that should be saved for the episode).

Episode 1 titled ‘A Death in the Family’ does not pick-up where Season 2 cut off. Whilst it is unknown how much time has passed, I am guessing it has been a few weeks. Things seem to have settled down a lot. Norman is about to start his senior year, Dylan has taken a new approach to drug trafficking, Norma is just a lot more relaxed than she was last season and Emma is still around the motel (which tells me that she decided to stay after considering leaving last season).

A lot of fans (Myself included) felt that the show started to go downhill last season with the drug trafficking storyline and all of the new faces popping into the show. Whilst I can honestly say that the Season 3 opener is a step-up from last season, it isn’t by much. The episode did not feel like a season opener. It was not very memorable. I fear that if this sort of quality continues, the show will lose even more viewers than they lost last year.

I will be back Monday night after the episode airs for a more in depth review and recap.

Now that that’s out of the way, who wants some teasers?!?!

- Although we don’t meet them, we find out a little more about Norma and Caleb’s parents.
- Emma shares some game changing news with Norman which could effect their future.
- A new guest arrives at the Motel who Norman quickly finds himself fancying.
- Caleb returns and is desperate to build a relationship with Dylan.

Check out Raina Reveals later for a bonus teaser.

To round out this article, I thought it’d be fun to play a game. Here’s a few dialogue teasers. Tell me in the comments who you think said what.

- “I’m only telling you this because you might need to know for some legal documents some day”

- “You can’t be skulking around in the dark peering into the guests bathrooms! It’s not normal!”

- “I followed you up here so I could talk to you. I didn’t want to go to the motel because I knew you wouldn’t want that”.

- “I can’t protect you anymore, you know that right? You’ll be on your own”.

- “Once you start touching somebodies body the rest just kind of melts away and then you’re just there. Two bodies. Sometimes it even feels good.”

  1. why are you watching if you don't like the show and have you even seen all the trailers ? its safe to say this season is gonna deliver

  2. He is a fan of the show otherwise he wouldn't be reviewing it.

    He's providing his honest opinion.

    Would you rather he lied?

  3. Well doesnt sound like it

  4. Yes, I have watched the promos but they mean nothing. Sometimes the best movies have the worst trailers and the worst movies have the best trailers. Same goes for TV. Saying that something is good judged only on the promos is like judging a book by it's cover.

And no-where did I say that I didn't like it. I said that it was a minor step-up from last season in fact. But there was just nothing special about this premiere.

  5. I like the show and I liked the S2 drug story line. It expanded the show's world and gave a lot of depth to Dylan. Also IMO, Vera Farmiga as Norma is reason enough to keep on loving the show.

    Looking forward to S3.

  6. I actually enjoyed the S3 Premiere but I totally get where Tyler is coming from as it's not your typical high impact episode like the S2 premiere with Bradley shooting her dads killer.

However, it does setup very well pretty much of the whole season and I think we're going to be in for a good season.

Being a fan of the original movie I enjoyed our first glimpse and throwback to how Norman for the show will become the Norman of the movies.

  7. Thats fine. However to be fair season premieres are usually not the most exciting or action packed. They are used to set up the season . Breaking bad seasons premieres werent Usually escurinho BUT they were still very good because they set thr groundwork

  8. Are you seriously that dense? Do you even understand the concept of a review? He gave his honest take on the premiere and actually tried to be nice about it. And what about the trailers you retard? 'Ooooh, have you seen them they is sure looks good so the season will be amazing brah'.Want to know what I think about your show, fanboy? It's Psycho for moronic teens, it sucks ass and should be cancelled already. How's that?

  9. Tyler you are being a little nasty. No need to go that far

  10. Yeah I don't know, I was expecting a cool twist like last year's with Bradley and her dad and here... I don't know it looked like a filler episode to me...
Really liked Tracy Spiridakos though. I've missed her since Revolution ended.

  11. I really loved season 2 so sounds like I'll be enjoying the premiere.

  12. The trailer seems to imply he'll become a lot closer to the Norman in the movies than I would have thought. But, I've been hoping for five seasons since day 1, so, if my assumptions based on the trailer are correct, seems like they are on track for that. (I'd hope for six but A&E continues to lose my trust when it comes to their scripted stuff.)
