Banshee continued its amazing third season last night with an all new episode, the last one before the epic season finale, titled “Even God Doesn't Know What to Make of You”, written by Jennifer Ames & Steve Turner; and directed by Loni Persistere.
It was an extraordinary hour of television that Banshee offered us again last night. I’m still blown away with each episodes. This season has been one hell of a ride, I would have never expected Banshee to reach that level of quality, in storytelling and characters developments. This episode mainly focused on Kai Proctor, and his rebirth. Since his mother died, he had gone softer but his abduction by the black birds, because of Rebecca’s actions, put him right back in his world, to who he really is. The other parts of the episode focused on Hood and Job’s first meeting through flashbacks and of course on Colonel Stowe closing in on the gang… Oh My God, next week will be epic !
Kai started off the episode in a quite dire situation. He was tied to a chair, surrounded by Frazer and his men, who were seeking retribution for what Rebecca did, selling to the Salvadorians. I was glad they weren’t touching Emily, she was just there to watch, scream and cry, to make suffer Kai even more. But clearly, they didn’t know Proctor well enough.
I’ve never been afraid for Proctor’s life. If Proctor was about to die, I’m confident it’d be at Hood’s hands, no other characters. And Kai showed he wasn’t willing to go down easy, biting off the nose of one the men. Gross but effective. Kai took a serious beating from the black birds gang, and his conversation with Frazer was very interesting. Frazer considered the Salvadorians as his worst enemy, so Proctor working with them made him also his enemy. Frazer was a bit scary, but nothing compared to what Proctor has shown before.
Rebecca, probably feeling guilty for putting her uncle in that position, tried to reach Sheriff Hood for help. He turned her down instantly, still grieving over Siohban. He didn’t want to rescue Proctor because he didn’t deserve it. That was one way to see the law, not exactly in a sheriff’s ways…
So Becca talked to Brock, as Emily was also captive with Kai, that changed everything. Brock had to go save her, and Hood wouldn’t leave him alone to do so. They went together in, but they didn’t save Proctor, at Frazer much surprise, they only came for Emily. They took her and they were gone, leaving Proctor to die there. It was such a bold choice. I loved Rebecca’s reaction “what’s the fuck” when she saw Hood, Borkc and Emily leaving.
Rebecca and Burton weren’t ready to leave Kai alone and went to rescue him. It turned out Kai didn’t need much help. He successfully took down three guards, still Frazer escaped. It was so freaking amazing when Proctor attacked them and finally burn them alive.
The old Proctor is back. He tried to reach to God again, since his mother died but he rejected God and religion once more. Proctor tried to change, he tried to be better, softer but it wasn’t who he was. He can’t change from who he really is… And I’m so thrilled the badass Proctor is back, can’t wait to see what will happen to Frazer next week. Will Proctor finally slice his throat like a fucking cow ? We’ll see….
Hood found Proctor’s location thanks to Job, but it was the last time Job would ever help him, so he said. Job was still angry at Hood for what happened at Camp Genoa. He almost died because of him. It was a bit heart breaking to watch Hood and Job being a part like that, I really didn’t like it.
It was even more painful apart with the flashbacks of how they first met. Hood came to kill Job off but he convinced him to keep him alive, so he would help him disappear from Rabbit so they would both stay alive. It was so fun to watch Job with hair, out of breathe in the streets. He wasn’t the Job we know today, not as strong but still funny and snarky.
The best and most exciting part of the episode was the Colonel. I’ve never expected him to find out so quickly about the gang. Last week, I got that he was suspicious of Carrie, looked at the table where she took his fingerprints before. But Sugar and Job made a little mistake when they both went on their mission to get the key card.
The colonel identified them, he instantly knew Sugar was driving the van and the best part was about Job. He has been such a mysterious character from the start, the most mysterious character on the show actually. It was super exciting to find out he was The Hacker, wanted by several agencies. I knew Job was very good but not that good. Stowe was missing one of the gang, but he decided to take the three he already knew about, in hope they would reveal who was their last partner in crime. When Stowe entered Sugar’s bar, I think my jaw dropped. He didn”t waste any time and told him about the theft. I loved Sugar’s lines from Hood about the “lose lose situation” but it turned out, Stowe had brought the big guns for Sugar. One down…
Then, Job was taken. It was pretty fast and so unexpected. I got really afraid when Job started to lose it and faint. Damn those sedative ! His interrogation’s scene was real fun, Job never looses his snarky attitude. I don’t know why but I’m not afraid for him. Job is very resourceful. IMO, there is nothing that could stop him… except a double dose of sedative.
Finally, Stowe took Carrie, when she had finished her job. I noticed she was the only one of the three who saw it coming. She knew something was wrong, but it was already too late with all those snipers at her. Poor Carrie, she made it personal by sleeping with him so his vengeance will be harder on her. But she’s a tough lady, she can handle it.... I hope.
Of course, the main reason I’m not so worried about Sugar, Job and Carrie’s fates is because Hood is coming for them. He knew something was off when he visited Sugar’s bar and then Carrie was also MIA. I loved Gordon’s last line of the episode “what the fuck did you do now ?”. He can not even imagine what they did and what is happening.
It’s still a very scary situation for our beloved characters, I really don’t want any other main characters to die, we are all still recovering from Siohban’s death…. But I don’t really know if the whole gang can get out alive off the camp. If one has to go down, I really hope it’ll be Sugar because I can not imagine the show to go on without Job or Carrie… (obviously Hood will survive). The wait for next Friday is going to be so long but the season finale will blow our mind, like they always do
“Even God Doesn't Know What to Make of You” was an excellent episode, Proctor was rebirth as a big villain and everything has been set up for an explosive and epic season finale.
What did you think of the episode ? What are your hopes for the season finale ? Who do you think will die ? Hit the comments !
Banshee notes :
- Brock shooting in the tires so Emily wouldn’t go to Proctor, funny.
- It’s always heart breaking to see Hood struggling with Siobhan’s memories.. The cemetery, the bullet holes in the Cadi. Everything around him reminds him of her.
- Gordon brought divorce papers but Carrie and him didn’t sign them. Oww, is there stil hope for them ? I’ve never really like them as a couple but now things has changed, he has accepted who Carrie is.
- And Deva continued to be the typical angry stupid teenager, smoking weed and getting caught. But Gordon deciding to let her in the Cadi for the night was a great decision. Maybe best parenting decision he has taken since a long time.
- Job’s voice mail “I’m not here” made me laugh so much.
- Bunker is getting his own story… He’s coming after his former pals and his brother. I’m not really liking this, it’s very dangerous. We have already lost Emmett last year, I wouldn’t stand losing Bunker.
- And the best line of last night episode was from Job, “you know the only way to clean this rat trap is with a fucking grenade, right ?”hilarious
