Ascension - Not Going Forward as a Series at Syfy

10 Mar 2015

When last year Syfy ordered Ascension its first event series/miniseries in six years, it was with an eye towards continuing the mini as a regular series the way the network did with Battlestar Galactila while back. That won’t be the case this time. “We were very happy with Ascension as an event series, but with so much high profile development in the works, we have decided not to pursue a full series,” Syfy said in a statement to Deadline.

  1. Can't say I'm surprised. Beginning was too slow and at the end they tried to make up for it.

  2. Not surprised, the twist at the end of the first episode kind of annoyed me and I never watched the rest.

  3. Well, it a good thing I never watched the rest after the first episode. I heard they left a lot of questions unanswered.

  4. Oh what?! I was hoping they would make a series out of it, because the mini series was too fast paced with no good development, so I hoped a series would make it better and take time :(

  5. Good. It really didn't deserve a series. After that part one ending i never went back to finish..

AUGH! I loved the concept, and the miniseries was ok, so I was hoping for more... How come this social/psicological experiments shows never succed?

  7. What was the 'twist' at the end you speak of ?

  8. But that final scene? THAT SCENE! I WANT ANSWERS!!!

Can't it be another abbreviated season?

  9. Turns out, it was a Big Brother-esque fishbowl funded by the government. But it really became good towards the ends, especially when certain characters came close to learning the truth as well as the big reveal in the finale.

The miniseries was... interesting but I never saw it having sustainability as a full series.

  13. actually it was a pretty good series .and we will never know the answers to that bunch of qns.

  14. I never even bothered to watch it because of that twist.

  15. Spoilers for anyone who may wish to watch it.

The space ship wasn't actually in space or on its mission but was in a government warehouse somewhere as they conducted an experiment on the crew to see whether such a mission was possible. It pissed me off because I wanted a sci-fi show actually set in space and not that.

  16. Not surprised. I assume most people dropped off after episode 1.

  17. Fine by me. The first episode pleasantly surprised me but the rate at which it went downhill in the second and third episodes was astounding.

  18. But In the end someone did go to another planet, even Galaxy.

  19. I'm OK with it. The mini series can be viewed a one long twilight zone episode with the type conclusion it had with an open ending. And when there is an open ending you fill it, I'm good at that.

The only question now is should it Keep it in my hard drive or delete it.

  20. hmmm I was interested in the premise and wasn't able to catch any eps and was planning to try to catch up maybe during the summer, but after reading all the comments I think that I might pass and save that time for another show...I just hope that 12 Monkeys gets a second season from SyFy at this point

  21. Not surprised given how they shot themselves in the foot with that first part, I really liked the last hour of the 3rd part though, if it had come back I would have watched but I'm not bothered that it isn't.

  22. It turns out where he was ported to was just the desert region, after walking miles he found civilization a small city where he learned about the planet and more.

Eventually in the end Christa would teleport the whole Ascension ship to the planet, after the Earth Organization would try and get to her and kill everyone on the ship to keep them quite.

  23. Only the final scene??
I don't know where the hell did they writers read that you end a mini-series with more cliffhangers than the season finale of a 22 episode tv show. So messed up ugh.

  24. I don't get how come a mini-series ends with more cliffhangers than a normal TV show.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Oh well that's something then! But really it wasn't engaging me much even before the twist.

    ReplyDelete
  26. If only that twist wasn't at the end of the part one, maybe, just maybe it would have holed up but..they didn't.

  27. A mini series or limited is is just that, they are both the same (limited and mini series). A normal tv show has the opportunity to give us an ending (but not always) especially if they get renewed for a second season, and mini series or limited series usually has a closed ending, but if they do very well in ratings they could continue as a regular series..Hope that helped?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yeah, I didn't see this continuing. It was a good length for what it was.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I know what they all are. What I'm saying is that why in the world would the writers end this mini-series with so many cliffhangers?! It ended with more cliffhangers than most normal TV shows!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Because they expected the ratings to be as good as Battlestar Galattica when it was shown as a mini/limited series.

    ReplyDelete
  31. So I am officially not watching anything Syfy airs unless the series has ended (with a proper ending and not cancellation).

syfy made a right desicion for a change

  33. I'd prefer another episode or 2 - but definitely not a regular series. Dealing with some open plots would be nice.

    ReplyDelete
  34. It was good but not for a full series I guess

    ReplyDelete
  35. Another miniseries would have been better.
