That is a really deceptive title. I was expecting something akin to an apology, not her yelling at Lance. I know I always start my apologies by comparing the person I've wronged to a "son of a b, who's barely human." Sheesh. It's like they don't want you to forgive her.
For whatever it's worth I just saw a interview on etalk news and Colton says his and Stephen's tweets about scripted goodbyes/hard nights of work weren't about a death just a very emotional scene..
Eventually, sure. Not anytime soon though. There will be no forgiveness until Lance takes his pain and anger out on everyone he associates with his daughter's death.
Laurel's an irrational, emotional, slightly unhinged mess. She probably always will be. I've accepted that and have actually started to like it. I hope they continue to play all of that up.
"Laurel Lance. Always trying to save the world." - Quentin just brought the death hammer down on himself, although I wonder if he'll be spared since he omitted the "Dinah"?
You've got Laurel or Felicity. Pick your poison. Personally, I'm actively pulling for Laurel to become the unapologetic wild card of the team. She's not expertly skilled at anything and she doesn't have a niche that she fills within the group. She's just a danger junkie with a self-righteous streak about her and that's the stuff I want Arrow to focus on.
I really don't get why they dragged this... it was unnecesary and just breaks a beautiful relationship. I never got why they made Laurel hide Sara's death, it was stupid and pointless. Well, they did it, for some reason. Now i'm on Quentin's side of the matter... because there's no good reason as to why she never told him. The bright side is that both Katie and Paul kill these scenes! They're quite remarkables.
Laurel didn't compare Ra's and Laurel. She juxtaposed them and said Nyssa's (I think) situation with her father was similar. Laurel May have been annoying often (I actually for the first time like her a lot in three), but she's human. She's sorry, and is only trying to mend her relationship with her father. I honestly respect her here a lot. Laurel's come a long way from the self-centred drug addict bitch who blamed everyone else for her shit. And I have to congratulate the authors for taking an annoying, irreverent character who I hated and making her someone I actually enjoy having on my screen.
I have a feeling it's gonna be about more than just Sara's death. Apparently Ra's kidnaps him. Probably to mess with Oliver for rejecting his offer/ demand.
I like the fallout. Agreed, I wish it didn't happen (though I get Laurel's pov- don't really agree with it though). But I like how Laurel is admitting she screwed up and is trying to make up for it. I think they did it to give Lance personal incentive to go after Oliver (I think there are more reasons though), and just cause Guggenheim loves to troll.
A juxtaposition is a type of comparison: you put two things next to each other and invite comparison between them. She was insinuating that their relationship was so bad it was similar to her friend who's father was a sociopath. You've actually missed the issue. She isn't sorry. She doesn't act sorry, she doesn't say sorry. Instead she's yelling at the person she's wronged. She can be "human" all she wants, but she isn't a character I like on my screen when she acts like this. I was really hoping that if they were going to give her a bigger role they'd stop making her the annoying selfish jerk who blames other people--like she is currently doing with her dad being mad at her--but they haven't. She just wears shiny leather and yells at Oliver more.
She was comparing the situations, not them. She pointed out Malcolm was not really human, she said Quentin wasn't that like that. She does act sorry, she brought him an offering. She said she f*cked up and wants to make it better and it's her fault. You can't deny that. She said she even deserves it. I didn't miss any point. I got the point loud and clear. You disagree with me fine. But don't say she hasn't changed. Laurel of seasons 1 or 2 would never admit she deserves this.
They could play the "Oliver is helping Malcolm, who actually killed Sara" for that. That would be better for my POV. That should be the real reason he turns against him.
By comparing the situations, she was comparing them. In effect saying, her friend and her father can't work it out because he is an SOB, "but you" and she just trails off. She NEVER says Quentin isn't like that, she implies that since he shouldn't be like that they should be able to work things out.
She NEVER said she f*cked up. She NEVER said it's her fault. I can and will deny that all day every day. What she did say was that she deserved to be yelled at. But that's like a little kid taking the spanking but never admitting they were sorry. She has acted this way with Lance since season 1. She did it in season 2 when she *finally* broke down about her misplaced guilt over getting Tommy killed. So, for me, nope this isn't demonstrating change, it's demonstrating character consistency.
I absolutely abhor people playing the ding dong ditch "hater" game. You can't tell me when she did do the things you are ascribing to her, so you just say "oh she can't do right with you." She could do right. She COULD apologize to her father. She could come at him with contrition instead of anger--which she's done now twice. She could not say "What the hell" at Oliver when he walks through his own door. She doesn't. Laurel's best scene was with Nyssa at the end. She could be the different character you are imagining she is. They just keep writing little miss "I."
This isn't the hater game. It's the she's trying to amends and people keep judging despite the fact that she's trying and unlike in past years when she has fought with her dad, is now the one trying to bury the hatchet. I imagine nothing. So is she supposed to just do a complete character 180? Because that makes sense.
You are actively saying you think they've changed her character. All I'm asking for is a sentence that doesn't revolve around her and maybe saying I'm sorry to her dad. In fact, if she were actually trying to make amends--not just move past it--I'd stop raking her over the coals. But she isn't. She just keeps yelling at her father. Even Oliver expressed remorse for lying to Lance. How hard would a little character growth for Laurel to do the same thing be?
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
That is a really deceptive title. I was expecting something akin to an apology, not her yelling at Lance. I know I always start my apologies by comparing the person I've wronged to a "son of a b, who's barely human." Sheesh. It's like they don't want you to forgive her.
ReplyDeleteLol. Just Laurel being Laurel.
ReplyDeleteOh, they don't. Not even a little bit. Not yet anyway.
ReplyDeleteheartbreaking scene........and this is where Laurel turns to Nyssa
ReplyDeleteyou think Lance will forgive Laurel eventually?
ReplyDeleteI just don't get what the writers are trying to accomplish with this character. I never have.
ReplyDeleteFor whatever it's worth I just saw a interview on etalk news and Colton says his and Stephen's tweets about scripted goodbyes/hard nights of work weren't about a death just a very emotional scene..

ReplyDeleteBut...but...I don't like it. I don't like it at all. :-( Why have your female lead be an angry, irrational mess?
ReplyDeleteOr until he's gasping for breath on his deathbed.
ReplyDeleteYou've got Laurel or Felicity. Pick your poison. Personally, I'm actively pulling for Laurel to become the unapologetic wild card of the team. ReplyDeleteOr that.

Sara didn't say Dinah...
ReplyDeleteYes she did
ReplyDeleteShe didn't. Watch the season premiere again.
ReplyDeleteOkay, then I guess he's for real marked for death.
ReplyDeleteHuh? You're right. She didn't....
ReplyDeleteWell, Quentin just painted a a big fat target on his back then.
:'(
ReplyDeletenice description of Merlyn Laurel
ReplyDeleteLike I needed a new reason to hate Laurel. Now saying her name literally gets you killed. It's worse than Voldemort :\
ReplyDeleteeven Lance turning against Team Arrow?
ReplyDeleteI pick Felicity. I don't like self-righteous if i don't agree with it. :-) Sorry to say, I'm rooting against your version of the show.
ReplyDeleteThe way Arrow's writing has been, chances are neither of us will get what we want.
ReplyDeleteWell you did say pick my "poison." I'll probably end up feeling sick either way.
ReplyDeleteLaurel didn't compare Ra's and Laurel. She juxtaposed them and said Nyssa's (I think) situation with her father was similar. ReplyDeleteI like both.
ReplyDeleteLol. She who shall be not named.
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling it's gonna be about more than just Sara's death. Apparently Ra's kidnaps him. Probably to mess with Oliver for rejecting his offer/ demand.
ReplyDeleteI already refer to her as You Know Who lol
ReplyDeleteI like the fallout. Agreed, I wish it didn't happen (though I get Laurel's pov- don't really agree with it though). ReplyDeleteLol there's also she who could not be named.
ReplyDeleteWas it Merlyn? Thought it was Ra's. That makes more sense.

ReplyDeleteBut the personal incentive should be him knowing he is helping Malcolm, the one who killed her. YOU HAVE ENOUGH INCENTIVE THERE.
ReplyDeleteThey could play the "Oliver is helping Malcolm, who actually killed Sara" for that. That would be better for my POV. That should be the real reason he turns against him.
ReplyDeleteHe doesn't actually know that. Agreed though

Whatever I know what it's like to hate Laurel. Everything she does is wrong.
