Matt Bomer will star opposite Lady Gaga in American Horror Story: Hotel, the upcoming fifth installment of FX’s horror anthology series created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk. The announcement was just made at the end of AHS‘ PaleyFest panel, in which Jessica Lange, star of the the first four installments, officially confirmed that she is leaving the franchise.

Jessica Lange announced to screaming fans at the American Horror Story PaleyFest panel tonight, “Yes, I’m done.” She will not be joining Lady Gaga in American Horror Story: Hotel, the fifth season of the Emmy-winning FX series next October.
“We’ve had a great run here. I mean, I absolutely love doing these four characters, and in all the madness, I love the writers and Ryan (Murphy) and the insanity of shooting it,” Lange told a full, top to bottom, Dolby Theatre.
Bomer said he was still unclear about what character he was playing. “I can’t confirm or deny that there might be a love interest” said Bomer regarding his character’s connection to Lady Gaga’s.

ReplyDeleteA great farwell forbthe exceptional Jessica Lange! It waa a pleassure to see her kill the role in every season. Cause no matter how trashy the writing was at moments she pulled so much emotion with her character.

ReplyDeleteIt was already confirmed, but apparently Ryan Murphy had convinced Jessica to maybe stay because she felt invigorated by Elsa Mars, but I guess it wasn't enough. It just really sucks because SHE IS THE SHOW and a lot of people love her. There will be some big shoes to fill, and I don't know if Gaga is enough to be honest.

I think she already talked about it two years ago that she's done after season 4.
ReplyDeleteShe mentioned season 5 in an interview in January (her casting was announced in December) so she still seems to be involved in AHS. I assume she'll just take a reduced role.

ReplyDeleteEven if I'm sad about Jessica Lange's exit I do think this season could be great. Lady gaga, Matt Bomer and Cheyenne Jackson are great addition to the show and the Hotel theme seems great ! :)

ReplyDeleteShe added so much to the show and it would have never been the same without her, so I am very glad for all the seasons she gave us. But this being said, I am somehow glad (glad-ish) that she is leaving now. I've felt in recent years that her characters are sort of in a loop, always ending up with the same motivations and type of issues and that it somehow prevents the seasons from truly breaking free. But she will still be deeply missed. I think we will see her guest start in a small role down the line (if not this year, then the next one). I love AHS.
ReplyDeleteor as a guest star in one or two episodes. The rumour has it Lady Gaga may play the younger version of Jessica Lange. The latter would be appearing in the season premiere and final season. It would be interesting !

ReplyDeletethey're not trying to replace jessica lange haha, I feel like gaga is a bold choice and she truly is a talented performer and very theatrical, so AHS should be a perfect fit for her style and brand. I'm hopeful about s5 tbh, with so many new cast members it's gonna be radically different

ReplyDeletesince it's a hotel theme, she could be one of the visitors for 1 or 2 episodes, she's a fantatsic actress, but her leaving the show would also benefit the show by changing the cast dynamics; AHS would fresh up quite a bit i'd imagine can't wait either way. Gaga and bomer are both fantastic additions to this i'd say!

Frances Conroy better be front and center, or at least much more central than she's been so far, she is always among the best of the cast yet horridly under-utilized. It's bothersome.
