  1. Ooh, awesome! I can't wait until Tuesday's episode emotionally traumatizes me again.

    ReplyDelete
  2. I'm still not sure why they don't just retitle the whole thing to "Skye - Because all other characters can go and f***k themselves".

Now even Sif is after Skye, the specialest snowflake of them all.

Oh and prepare for Simmons to die, her anti-power racism is intended to make her unlikable before they inevitably kill her off.

    ReplyDelete
  3. I'm sure Jemma will come around once she realizes that Skye's Gifted/Inhuman. She's just reeling from Trip's death right now and even though I don't like it at all, her behavior's understandable.

And it still is about the ensemble and hell, I love that Skye's going to become a superhero (can't wait until she's an Avenger and director of SHIELD). She's one of my favorites and I'm so excited for this arc and to see who she becomes (Quake).

    ReplyDelete
  4. Oh come of it, that's nonsense.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Agreed. Sif likely isn't even there for Skye. She probably just loses control of her powers while Sif is with the team.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I don't see them making Skye director of SHIELD any time soon. I don't think I ever want to see that in the MCU.

    ReplyDelete
  7. In the eventual series finale, I'd love for her to take over for Coulson. Can't happen too early. And I desperately need Chloe to have major roles in Inhumans and Infinity Wars.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Do you guys think there will be a season 3? awesome poster btw.

    ReplyDelete
  9. There should be. Check the Cancellation Predictor in the table.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I can't see it happening in the MCU either, the comics and the movies are very different at times. I mean it could but it will be like Phase V when it actually happens.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Exactly, we already know that Sif has lost her memory of events form the fight scene (guessing at the start) which is why the team help her. If in the middle of that Skye loses control for whatever reason it wouldn't be surprising that Sif would regard her as a threat.

    ReplyDelete
  12. amen to Chloe being part of the movies, I sure would love that.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Nonsense? Certainly not
    Hyperbolic? Probably

    ReplyDelete
  14. Your campaign to create the narrative that Skye is the Klaus of this show isn't going to work.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Given that AoS is basically a big promo campaign for the MCU wich is owned by Disney and works as pretty much the biggest cinematic exploit in recent memory it's safe to say that AoS isn't going anywhere.

Unless Disney wants to cut a show that poses as a 40 minute long promo for the MCU.

However I would've made several adjustments to the show itself to work more in Marvels favor. Like going WITH the MCUs style and tone.

After the release of Avengers 2 the villain for AoS is shifted to the remnants of Ultrons army, after the release of Cap3 the team splits into the pro-vigilante act and contra groups. After GotG2 the team is transported to space etc.

would work better for the show, fans and Marvel.

    ReplyDelete
  16. But she is, she is turned into a special snowflake AND is the center of season 2.

There used to be a pretty cool dynamic in season 1, but these days the rest is there to prop up Skye. Who used to be my favourite until she got turned into May 2.0

    ReplyDelete
  17. and let's not forget that the narrative should focus on the entire team, not just Skye. The second they turned her into the focus of everyones attention isn't doing the show any favors. In fact it's downgrading them from an ensemble show to something that I can't even properly categorize

    ReplyDelete
  18. Right. The upset of that dynamic has absolutely nothing to do with two new shady team members, Ward being a traitor and gone, Fitz having brain damage, and Coulson spending most of his time going slowly nuts and carving stuff.

That didn't obliterate the team's dynamic at all. Lol. Come on, Mac. You've got some serious tunnel vision here.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Not really, these three new team members haven't even been explored a bit. I'm still not sure if Bobbi, Mack or Lance are going to turn out being traitors or just shady because the show refuses to hand them some backstory.

Fitz having brain damage SHOULD be focused on heavily, just as much as Coulson and Skye but it's not.

    There's an off balance man.

But I'll be honest: I'm very biased here. I loved Skye but what happened to her in season 2 (in terms of character changes, she went from hacker to soldier and also kinda took away her cute personality) isn't really on the good side of mine.

My opinion is subjective but currently I'd kill for the show to give other characters some exposure instead of JUST Skye and Coulson while using everyone else as a backdrop

    ReplyDelete
  20. I didn't say Bobbi or Mac were traitors but they're certainly working their own separate agenda which makes them shady. Furthermore, they can't exactly explore these characters in depth when a) the mystery element is part of their subplot, b) only one is a series regular and she's just been newly promoted and that wouldn't fall in accordance with your equitable attention doctrine, and c) equitable storytelling is a ridiculous idea.

    ReplyDelete
  21. They're not going to short-change the payoff for something they've been working on since the series started because finally telling this story isn't equitable in terms of character attention. That's nuts.

    ReplyDelete
  22. This looks horrible.

Exactly what I expect from AoS.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Totally! The ratings are good (great for ABC) and it likely there'll be a season three. I'm so excited about it!

    ReplyDelete
  24. It's not a freaking pay-off though. It's a prelude to a new stage of that storyline!

Don't want to fight but let's be fair here: Skye is being heavily focused on and people having issues with that is pretty valid

    ReplyDelete
  25. Pretty cool poster! Sif is one of my favorite MCU characters so I'm very happy she's coming back. I would love if this is like an annual thing with her, that would be awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Is it ridiulous? Season 1 did a solid job with throwing the team into different situations and all having different approaches to these situations.

Mack's been in most of the season though and it's BS to claim that a show can't focus on recurring characters. Since you mentioned Klaus earlier: we know more about Aiden on TO than about Mack/Bobbi/Hunter on AoS

However my issue is that this Skye-solo focus might not be the best for the show right now.

    ReplyDelete
  27. ...or promote her to regular wich I've been lobbying for since last season!

    ReplyDelete
  28. SHIELD in pieces =(

    ReplyDelete
  29. Forgot to touch on Fitz: His cognitive issues were given ample focus for almost every single episode during the first half of the season up until Coulson gave him the field job in Puerto Rico. There's no cause at all to claim that wasn't given enough attention.

    ReplyDelete
  30. It was given a subplot. Not a plot even long enogh to fully explore his issues (issues that were there even before Ward shat on him).

We have explored Coulson, Skye and Ward enough at this point (IMO)

maybe it should be time for others to get the spotlight as well?

How about giving May a more fleshed out backstory?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Yes, it's ridiculous. It's only possible without hurting the show creatively if the makeup of the show dictates it. When the team makeup was drastically changed any hope of the same equitable storytelling was gone.

When the team changed, so did the way SHIELD told their stories. It's a reasonable and not at all an unforeseen change.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I never said Sky wasn't being heavily focused on. I completely agree with that. Where we differ is that I see nothing wrong with it.

    ReplyDelete
  33. So you basically condone the narrative change and focus on already explored characters while leaving the supporting cast as backdrop?

Well then we're on two different ends here, I was sold on this show as a show about Agents of SHIELD. Not on a Quake/Coulson solo show

    ReplyDelete
  34. At least wait till season 2 has finished before you go blabbing on about the errors this season. If you have been following the show at all, you would know that May's ex-husband is coming to the show soon so be prepared to get a lot of backstory on her, especially with what happened in Bahrain.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Okay, then we'll just have to respect each others different viewpoint because I feel that the show should focus on all of them.

Subjectively my love for Skye/Coulson has been lowered since the heavy focus on them. But hey, that's just me :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. uh someone is angry with me.

The show has its clear flaws, flaws that might not feel that heavy to you, to me they do though.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Brain damage is going to be a subplot and nothing more. You're not going to get someone's debilitating cognitive issues as the main focus of a show about spies in a world of people with abilities. That would make no sense. It got the attention it warranted.

    ReplyDelete
  38. "a show about spies in a world of people with abilities"

well, well, well....so we agree that this show is suppsed to be about spies in a world full of people with abilities. While I disagree on the part that braindamage can't be a focus I agree that this is what the show SHOULD be about. It's not anymore. At least judging from the latest few episodes it's about Quake getting her powers while being aided by Shield agents who mainly serve as side characters

    ReplyDelete
  39. You said it yourself - "supporting cast." They don't call it a supporting cast for nothing. They're there for support.

Your fair and equitable storytelling was there during season one because in an ensemble show like this the whole point of the first season is to get to know everyone. From there, most shows will jump off into different, more segmented directions and SHIELD has done exactly that. Nothing untoward and nothing unexpected.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I'm not angry...we just have different opinions and that's fine. I understand why someone who doesn't like Skye is not very happy with what they're doing to her in the last half, making her front and center and all. Especially when the producers called it "Birth of a Superhero", most people see it as Skye-centric heavy so they're not going to focus enough on the other team members and I'm okay with that. It's understandable. Maybe once season 3 starts the show will on the other members like May. I have been desperately waiting for backstory on May but I can wait till they're ready to do that.

    So excited!

    ReplyDelete
  42. As someone that desperately tries to care about Skye again this season isn't very solid indeed BUT I'm trying. Was just put off by the "blabbing" ;)

    ReplyDelete
  43. Leaves the show itself to define WHO is supporting. And given the shows recent turns it has demoted everyone but Skye and maybe Coulson into that spot. A spot where they shouldn't all end up.

However...I do have a completely different vision of what the show should be (going with the MCUs style/tone, adapting MCU villains, being more versitale in terms of locations) so obviously I'm rarely going to be satisfied

    ReplyDelete
  44. Maybe the word "blabbing" wasn't the correct team. You were just voicing your opinion and I respect that. Makes the conversation so much more interesting :)

    ReplyDelete
  45. Seeing as how Skye is a) a spy for SHIELD and b) a person with abilities, it would seem to fit will within the confines of my summation of the series. It also ties into the upcoming movie franchise and the newly raised anti-powers issue also ties into an upcoming Avengers story. With "it's all connected" being the Mantra of Jeph Loeb and Marvel I'd say they're doing exactly what they've set out to do without abandoning what SHIELD is about.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Hey, SHIELD isn't what I wanted it to be either but I've accepted it for what it is and enjoy it on those terms.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Or I just got it wrong, however we all love the show so I'm glad this discussion is happening ^^

    ReplyDelete
  48. Man, I wish I had your mindset on this, as someone that loves to write and make stuff myself it's kind of hard to bend my mind around a different vision than my own (I know...selfish Mac...as always :P)

    ReplyDelete
  49. I'm an old codger who still thinks of TV as a passive medium even though social media thinks otherwise. It's "take it or leave it" as far as I'm concerned. I've been following the network pilots up for selection this year and I'll take a deeply flawed SHIELD over most of the shlock in contention for pickup at any of the broadcast networks.

    ReplyDelete
  50. "Or I just got it wrong" Hey, you said it not me ;) In all seriousness, I don't expect EVERY fan to like this Skye storyline as much as I do. There are people who STILL think she's a terrible actress, her character is not important to the MCU, and just that she's not worthy enough to get her own storyline. I just commend you for pushing through it like a champ haha.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Sif kinda looks like an anime character. Heh. I love how her sword is seemingly shattering the SHIELD logo.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Well, I'm glad you still see it like that. And social media is indeed changing the landscape. But there's a difference between social media and creative differences. Social media is often focused on one part of a show the fanbase likes (be it a ship, a single character or an event) social media nearly threatens the writers to make things go their way. My differences are within the shows writing and core (you know me, if I could I would turn every ship sour) storytelling. Wanting to tell stories has always been my thing, unfortunately I have a hard time not trying to change anothers story (need to learn that)

And I'm with you here, this years pilot season is weak. The only show I'm remotely hot on is that new DC team-up and Lucifer

    ReplyDelete
  53. That's cool but TV is still, even with increased input and influence from viewers, mainly a passive media. If a show reaches a point where you do too much complaining and not enough enjoying, it's time to take your viewer vote elsewhere to a program you do mainly enjoy. That's what I do. I'm old school. If you don't like something change the channel.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Think this sums up the complaint:
Fans: We want comic characters on Agents of SHIELD!

    Marvel: You mean like Deathlok?

    Fans: No, other characters!

Marvel: You mean like Sif and Lorelei?

Fans: No, different ones than those!

Marvel: How about villains like Graviton, Blackout, Scorch and Blizzard? Even Talbot as an antagonist!

Fans: NO, I'm demanding DIFFERENT comic characters than those!

Marvel: Okay, well...it's about SHIELD, so here are Nick Fury, Victoria
Hand, Sitwell, Garrett, Maria Hill, Koenig, Lance Hunter, Mack, Cameron
    Klein and Agent 33!

Fans: NO, I don't want SHIELD characters on a SHIELD show. I want DIFFERENT characters!

Marvel: We introduced the Kree...and even the Inhumans, who are getting their own movie!

    Fans: Not good enough!

Marvel: Gotcha...well...here's Mockingbird...an actual Avenger who is
quite popular. We'll even throw in cameos from Peggy Carter and the
Howling Commandos...as well as Senator Ward.

Fans: NO...I want different comic characters than any of those.

Marvel: How about Kraken, Absorbing Man, Blacklash and Mister Hyde as villains?

Fans: No, I want different characters than those.

Marvel: SURPRISE! Skye has been revealed to be Quake, an Avenger!

Fans: Marvel refuses to give me any comic book characters in Agents of SHIELD so I refuse to watch!

    ReplyDelete
  55. lol I loved that part in the movie. It would of been awesome if the trailer had not spoiled it for me.

    ReplyDelete
  56. man that would be too good if it could play out like this.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I like it! Very comic-book-cover-y

    ReplyDelete
  58. could they afford her? Not too mention that would bring other complaints pretty much as soon as it was announced.

    ReplyDelete
  59. not sure, Jamie isn't that big in Hollwood I gues. Maybe?

Well, as long as we get more strong female characters I don't care about complaints (as long as the characters are focused on I'll take everything)

    ReplyDelete
  60. This is a good poster.

    ReplyDelete
  61. but i don't want her leaving the show

    ReplyDelete
  62. great poster and can't wait to see Sif again and Eddie he's so awesome!!! Jemma has to understand, come she's Skye's sister!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  63. She won't - don't worry.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Yup, definitely looks like we'll get a season three!

    ReplyDelete
  65. but you want her as an Avenger, and those are in the movies

    ReplyDelete
  66. let's hope you're right

    ReplyDelete
  67. Doesn't mean Chloe has to leave the show to do them. She can do both!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Bruce and Mack, I know this is gonna sound weird, but I think you're both right. The fact is, when you have a lot of characters, if you focus on each of them equally, the quality of your stories diminish; you'll have too many stories to tell in too little time. To have more substantial storytelling someone will have to take focus.
Coulson and Skye where the main focus in the first half of the season and now it will be mostly Skye. Right now, this is her story arch. Eventually it'll be someone else's and Skye's story will become the sub plot or the backdrop of someone else's story. Everybody will get their chance to shine and I think that's a very wise decision that has increased the quality of the show dramatically.
Besides, we're only on season two, it's too soon to start calling it the "Coulson and Skye/Quake show" :) , though I 1000% know where you're coming from Mack, I guess I'm just putting my faith in the writers to ultimately know how to balance it out.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Hahaha, I can't tell if that was a joke, sarcasm or if you really meant it :)

    ReplyDelete
  70. Honestly, Fury has a greater chance of taking SHIELD back from Coulson than Skye becoming director.
