12 Monkeys - Yesterday - Advance Preview

Mar 5, 2015

12 Monkeys, “Yesterday,” is directed by Michael Waxman with a teleplay by Oliver Grigsby and the story by the team of Grigsby and Natalie Chaidez. Grigsby has also written for Nikita and Heroes. I have to say that I never watched Nikita, but based on the huge connection to this show and how much I’m loving this one, I think I see some catching up in my future!

Unlike last week’s episode, this one takes place primarily in 2043. Things – like the core – are continuing to degenerate. This prompts Jones (Barbara Sukowa) to send Ramse (Kirk Acevedo) and Whitley (Demore Barnes) on a road trip to Spearhead. We get to see yet another pocket of what’s left of civilization. I think this one may have some interesting connections to the Army of the 12 Monkeys – though that isn’t hinted at in the episode – you’ll have to come back for my review to learn my theory!

The group at Spearhead is lead by General Foster (Xander Berkeley). Berkeley, of course, was also on Nikita. Both Whitley and Ramse run into people from their past at Spearhead. We get to see a bit of a different side to Whitley (Demore Barnes), and I’ve been waiting for more Demore Barnes. In the end, however, I was disappointed that we didn’t get more background on Whitley – hopefully next episode. We do learn quite a bit about both Ramse and Jones, however.

We learn that things are getting critical in 2043. The belief is that not even the immune can survive another mutation of the virus. We get just a flash more insight into what that broken glass of milk might mean. There is an uncomfortable dinner party in the episode. Cassie (Amanda Schull) is having trouble coming to terms with everything being over and Aaron (Noah Bean) tries to help her cope.

Just for fun, here are some random lines from the episode:

“Don’t you ever shut up?”
“You need to do this on your own.”
“48 hours at best.”
“It wasn’t me I was worried about.”
“A lot of lives at stake, and you guys have a dick measuring contest.”
“It does require a certain faith.”
“Hey. Get ready. Things are about to get real interesting.”
“I get a lot of things now.”

Both Sukowa and Acevedo deliver terrific performances in this episode. As always, this was another fast paced episode with a couple of really interesting surprises. There’s at least one very cringe-inducing scene in the episode. Be ready for another big surprise towards the end of the episode. Don’t forget to tune in Friday, March 6 at 9/8c on Syfy.

  1. Excited for this episode, no mention of Cole mmmm, interesting to see how they bring him back, my guess would be that he splintered just at the right time! Interesting to find out some backstory for both Jones and Ramsey!!

  3. "A lot of lives at stake, and you guys have a dick measuring contest" it looks like something that Ramse could say, “Don’t you ever shut up?” - Whitley to Ramse? Other lines - no idea.

  5. You can't imagine how hard it is to preview this show! I know some people want to be spoiled - it is SpoilerTv after all, but I also don't want to ruin the surprise - there's just a great WTF moment....

  9. The only thing I'm interested in being spoiled for is Cassie/Cole, everything else I'm fine waiting! LOL

  10. Soooo you don't want to know how (if) they save Cole. I admire your attitude.

  11. Share 1 spoiler. Will Ramse go back to meet Cassie? I'm almost sure there was another time traveller in the movie who met Cole and Railly.

  13. same, especially with Aaron now in the picture, love the character but DO NOT! want him with Cassie!!!

  14. Cole isn't going to die anyway, so it's not like I'm desperate to know. I'd rather watch the episode unspoiled and be surprised at how things turn out.

  15. I don't think that Aaron and Cassie are back together per say, it just feels like he is part of the club now that's all lol!

  16. the confusion is the kiss, it';s not just me that's confused

    ReplyDelete
  17. That kiss was extremely vague lol (thats what my shipper heart believes)!!

    ReplyDelete
  18. exactly, that's why we need clearing up

  19. Where did you get the finale??

  20. There's only so much spoiling one can do before you ruin some shows... this one's worth waiting for...

  21. I think Ramse is going to go back in time and save him after they take the core from Spearhead. What I love about this show is it has a lot of the Nikita cast and it keeps growing with the actor who played Percy.

  22. I need there to be a lot of Cole and Cassie scenes but I'm guessing we won't see much of 2015 but I hope I'm wrong. The thing I don't get is they know that the 12 Monkeys does something with the virus which exposes everyone to it in 2016 so obviously Cole wasn't erased and I guess they think they destoryed the entire virus but I think there's still some left that's going to be stolen.

  23. Now I'm confused I guess I missed some images or previews or articles because I don't know what kiss you guys are talking about hopefully it's Cole and Cassie.

  24. I kind of know that Ramse will be traveling through time now at least it's a theory of mine I've had for a while and I think he's going to try and kill Cole because of something that happens to Elena at least that's what I think I could be wrong.

  25. after Cole and Cassie came back from the gala, Aaron came in and kissed Cassie on the cheek. So we need clearing up on the status

    ReplyDelete
  26. is there clearing up on the Aaron and Cassie relationship?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Oh that's just a kiss on the cheek nothing needed to confirm on that they've haven't been together for two years and from what I heard the relationship might be strained for some reason.

    ReplyDelete
  28. well it was told that they broke up and now all of a sudden he waltzes in like nothing happened like he didn't believe her and kisses her. It's not just me that's confused actually

    ReplyDelete
  29. Love your theory! Would love for Ramse to meet Cassie, that would be aweome. Now all we need is Maggie Q and Shane West to guest star lol!

  30. In episode 7 "The Keys" right after Cole and Cassie come back from the party and Aaron walks in, her compliments Cassie on her dress and then kisses her, however we never see the kiss, we dont know if it was on the lips, cheek, forehead etc! Aaron does however have his arm around her waist when the camera does focus on them again! Personally I think the kiss was nothing lol!
