Jeremy suddenly playing hero after throwing himself a season-long pity party and Kai being artificially humanized through the assimilation of Luke's traits. Yeah, I'm not here for any of that.
He is officially Klaus the Sequel, except that Kai's redemption is being rushed. These people need to lose a lot of viewers before they stop with the terrible writing. Anyone else can go ahead and waste their time, but my Thursday night will be more productive than watching this show.
This episode is going to break my heart. Bonnie has been through so much over the past six seasons. I'm glad we finally get to see her react to what is happening to her. I'm also glad they're finally letting Kat show off her acting chops because she has improved the most since season one. Plus, Kat is really good with the emotional scenes. I'm really hoping this isn't the last season for Kat because I love Bonnie so much.
I wonder what's going on with the synopses. Tyler wasn't mentioned in the synopsis for this episode, but he's in it. I can see leaving out Liv since she's not a main character, but it's weird that Tyler was left out. Alaric was also left out of the synopsis for the next episode, but we know he's in it. I'm wondering if Bonnie is in the next episode, despite being left out of the synopsis. Kat said doing a recent interview that something huge happens at the end of this episode. I'm wondering if that huge thing is Bonnie finally escaping from the Prison World.
He's not Klaus. Klaus is a completely different issue altogether. (More about that on The Originals preview page).
Kai having "issues" after the merge actually makes sense. Kai coming to the only people he happens to know in MF also makes sense. Despite his crazy pants nature, he never really had anything against any of these people. He just wanted out of the prison and wanted the right to merge. He hurt and tormented the people that got in the way of that. It makes sense that after completing those two goals he'd kinda be like "well now what".
Expecting him to be some kind of constant threat just for the sake of being the big bad doesn't make much sense. I don't think they are looking to redeem the character, they are just trying to make him more dimensional than a simple wise cracking punk.
Now if I had my way, Bonnie would come back a very changed person. Her anger and disappointment in her so called friends and family would be the perfect festering wound for Kai to latch on to and use as a reason to cause havoc on the GAG. Together they could cause a lot of trouble.
I can't fault you on your complaints about Delena though.
Tyler suddenly gives a shit about the Gemini coven GTFOH. Oh and I see... now that Bonnie is gonna kill herself they need to find a way to get her out of there. Cause when she wasn't suicidal it was fine to just leave her there, throw a birthday party in her honour and occasionally mention how much it sucks that she's not around anymore. Brilliant.
Honestly are the writers delusional? How the fuck does any of this make any sense.
I loved that Kai was a psychopath but I'm actually excited about the fact that he starts to get a conscience. I don't think they want to redeem him and keep him on the show. I think they just want to expand his character. I can't imagine Kai falling in love with someone and wanting to be good or something like that. He is a total psychopath and I guess the fact that he is starting to get feelings won't make him want to change into a good person. I think he will struggle with this feelings because he still enjoys killing but he doesn't want to feel bad about it after he does it. It will freak him out and probably drive him even more crazy. And from what we saw this season Chris Wood seems to be an amazing actor, so I think it will be very interesting to watch. As long as he doesn't lose his awesome sarcasm I'm fine with that.
Klaus' redemption is actually pretty well written. And more related to Kai, we don't know where this story will actually go, so writing it off is pretty uncalled for (particularly since Kai and Chris Wood? Have been well-done and acted so far).
Sarah - please don't say that your perspective has been great. I was thinking the same thing - Kai's major consequence from the merge is that he now has "feelings" - seems like a lame story line - but think about it - would this be the ultimate Hell / Prison for a psychopath? It might be worth watching at least for the 1 liners.
So Kai's big consequence from the merge is that he now has feelings? Seems a bit weak as storylines go. I wonder if they are setting him up for a love interest? Which they could possible go either way. However, I think we have enough relationship going on at the moment. So a once evil villain now with feelings - talk about Kai back in the prison world.
I've decided to give the show a chance and see if the writers are able to clean things up by the end of the season. One thing that's for sure is that while people are glad to see the end of Jeremy's sad stories, Tyler has to go too, along with Enzo and Alaric, who haven't been more than plot devices to complicate and create ships. The show definitely needs new regulars for Season 7.
I figured Plec would come up with any excuse to keep the actor on as a regular. It's Klaus, all over again, although somehow keeping Kai around doesn't annoy me as much (except for the fact that Chris Wood is far too good an actor for this show). Honestly, I can't see them pairing him up with any of the 3 main females (No Bonkai please!), so it would have to be a guest character if they ever decided to do ship him with someone (although it seems premature for this season). Or maybe it won't be a female.....
I'd like to see this episode before "writing" it off (pun intended). The idea of merging is mainly about increasing your power but there are also two personalities involved, so wouldn't Kai absorb at least some of Luke's personality as well as his power? I don't see how Kai can be exactly the same person he was before the merge. He's still going to be a sociopath and I doubt that he'll suddenly have a conscience that he's willing to listen to, at least I hope not because that would be totally unbelievable. But, I can totally believe that he's feeling things he never did before which may be interfering with his previously single-minded behavior and he doesn't know what to do with them.
Change is pretty much inevitable in life, whether you're a sociopath or Mother Theresa. I think Kai thought the merge would increase his power and then he would be free to do whatever his sick little mind desired. Think again, Kai. But don't change too much; I won't find that believable at all.
Now that I've calmed down about something personal and family-related that I have to deal with today before I watch anything on television, I'm going to look at this episode with my usual hopefulness. I'm glad that Delena isn't at the forefront of anything, and we're seeing Damon form friendships with more than one other character. It gives Damon's character hope. I can see some potential for Kai's character now that he's absorbed Luke's soul (now that I think about it, that was part of the mythology of the merge), but I really hope they don't make him gay like Luke just to keep a gay character on the show. It would be better to just introduce a new character after some of the current ones leave. I hope Kai becomes a love interest for Elena. There, I said it. People can hate on me all they want. I have a right to my own opinion. I also hope that Elena's compulsion gets broken, even if it has to be by a witch, so that Delena ends cleanly and properly. Of course I'm sure there will be a fall-out anyway. I feel that Hayley is marrying Jackson on TO because the TO writers don't want to cater to shippers anymore, or Daniel Gillies might have a problem with being part of some warped version of a brother love triangle. Either way, I think those of us who don't ship are being heard, and the actors are most likely tired of the current status quo as well.
I don't see why Liv needs a revenge story. She'll probably get killed by Damon, Elena, or Jeremy by the end of the episode for trying to interfere with rescuing Bonnie. That would definitely bring Tyler and Matt together in an ambition to rid Mystic Falls of supernaturals. I really hope it's Elena who steps up and deals with Liv. As far as I've seen, it looks like Kai will play a major role in bringing Bonnie back, or at least reaching out to her. Ian Somerhalder said something interesting in an interview. He said that Kai gets to do everything that Damon used to do. I see a shift coming in the dynamic of these characters, and Sarah Salvatore coming into her ancestors' lives will most likely help this along. I have a hard time seeing any further place for Alaric on the series. Alaric hasn't been much of a father figure to Elena or Jeremy beyond one or two episodes, and his role since then has only been about relationships. Things might only be confusing because there are so many characters right now. I agree with everyone else that Enzo has to go, or he needs better stories. Maybe there's a better plan for him in Season 7. If I had to choose between better stories for Enzo or any real story for Tyler, I'd say it's past time for Tyler to go.
And that's all I need to say, I guess. Now I need to prepare myself to visit my aunt, who is unconscious and on life support, and try not to fight with my trouble-making cousins. I'm sorry if I upset anyone. Truly.
I called it-They would redeem kai.I told everyone from day one that the writers would pull this trick but nobody listened. They would make series regular as a semi-good guy like klaus next season-Mark my words!
I can predict these writers every move in my sleep now. It's so damn frustrating. The moment kai became popular,i knew they would go back on their words!
I'm sorry about your aunt, my condolences to you and your family.
"I feel that Hayley is marrying Jackson on TO because the TO writers don't want to cater to shippers anymore, or Daniel Gillies might have a problem with being part of some warped version of a brother love triangle. Oh how I wish this was true. To me it looks like they are pushing Haley into Jackson's arms to create the same nonsense that happened on TVD with Elijah, Jackson (no relation) and even Klaus all vying for her time and affection (though at least they haven't made Klaus' affections romantic yet).
I personally like the tension between Elijah and Haley (even though I hate Haley in general), I like seeing that side of Elijah, but I'm not looking for another rehash of the everyone loves Elena trope. My guess is the Gilles will only have a small part over the next few episodes because of his other commitments, but that once he's back they'll pick up the drama right where they left off, and with Klaus stoking the fire as an excuse to justify killing Jackson off.
P.S. YES to getting rid of Tyler. Tyler is the worst!
And i'm seriously getting anxious here. I keep wanting to read my book, but iI keep looking at the clock, and checking the thread for a third VD sneak peek. LoL
50 Shades of Grey. (First time reading it) I wanted to read it before the movie comes out, to compare and contrast. I actually really like it. I started last week, and i'm almost done. Have 200 pages left, exactly. If anything can keep me from looking at the clock, it's this book. Lol
Honestly, I don't think Kai thought at all in the moment when Luke wanted to merge - I believe his desire to win and beat his brother got the best of him. Not the first time an evil villain let their ego get the best of them. All I can think of is how funny it is going to be watching Kai fight with himself (ie:Luke). It may truly drive him insane.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Jeremy suddenly playing hero after throwing himself a season-long pity party and Kai being artificially humanized through the assimilation of Luke's traits. Yeah, I'm not here for any of that.
ReplyDeleteI really grow to like Liv. Hope she sticks around.
ReplyDeleteOhh that scene with bonnie crying is tearing me apart.
Happy we get to see bonnie deal with her feelings. this is some much needed character development for her.
ReplyDeleteI don't mind the Kai part (as it makes sense to me), but yeah Jer should just leave and never, ever return.
ReplyDeleteAt least wait to see the episode before you completely write off Kai as ruined.
ReplyDeleteHe is officially Klaus the Sequel, except that Kai's redemption is being rushed. These people need to lose a lot of viewers before they stop with the terrible writing. Anyone else can go ahead and waste their time, but my Thursday night will be more productive than watching this show.

I'm not watching this episode. Between the Delena garbage and Kai's character being ruined, there's no hope for this show.

Oh gawdddd. They did it. They changed Kai. That pisses me off!!! The MAIN THING that I was loving this entire season. And they just screwed him up.
ReplyDeleteI loved that Kai was a psychopath but I'm actually excited about the fact that he starts to get a conscience. I don't think they want to redeem him and keep him on the show.
