Finally, the rugby is behind us and we can look forward to a run of uninterrupted episodes after a single story in a month of frustrating delays. This marks the midway point of the season and the arcs have been neatly set in place for each of the Musketeers - Aramis has his va-va voom back, Constagnan are friends again, Porthos is suspicious about his inheritance and Athos is troubled that Milady is back. Oh yeah, then there’s the demoted Treville, now officially the fifth Musketeer I guess. He’s doing the menial jobs round the garrison, like shovelling out the stables...except for when d’Artagnan gets hoodwinked by the others into do it for him of course.
After having spent quite a bit of time in Paris during the start of the season it is great to see the Musketeers together out in the field at last. I think fans will also be pleased to hear that the story has a bit more of the feel of season one about it. The tone still has that slightly more adult edge, but there is more comradery between the leads and a chance to delve into the characters a little deeper without court politics getting in the way.
There is a Wild West vibe running through much of the episode, which works wonderfully during the Pinon village setting as the tenants struggle to overcome their troubles. The theme doesn’t quite sit so well when it comes to Athos’ side story, which does give a slightly disconnected feel over all, but nothing too jarring as it still comes together as a whole nicely I feel. Once again I have to also commend Paul Englishby’s score which compliments the motif perfectly. His work has been outstanding on the show and I sincerely hope that he is on board for season three.
Here’s the first part of this week’s hangman, crack this and there is an additional sentence to come too.
Both of the hangman have been solved!
The photo clue has been solved. Scrambled letters - shops + radiator + man = Aramis and Porthos
Aramis and Porthos team up on a mission together away from the rest of the main group. As well as being gallant heroes and saving the girl, there is evidence of their close friendship too. Aramis picks up on the issue between his buddy and Treville and asks his pal what the problem is.
As for the other three, one of them is still regarded as the Captain despite his demotion and the other two also have an emotional bonding moment.
