The Musketeers - A Marriage of Inconvenience - Advance Preview + Dialogue Teasers

27 Feb 2015

Spoiler warning: As always there are teasers and hints ahead in my preview. However there was a rather large spoiler released by an Australian magazine a few months ago about the twist in this episode. I haven’t made any mentioned to it in my preview, but please be aware that it is likely to come up in the comment section below.

Like most titles, this one alludes to much more than the simple recount outlined in the promotional material. Last week saw some of the characters making decisions to change things in their lives. Yet as Marmion very shrewdly pointed out, choices can create a ripple effect that touches others who may not be quite so happy with the reversal in fortune that it brings them. He called this fate, though there other names for it too – envy, pride, revenge or spite all spring to mind - as we saw with Catherine in The Return, a spurned love can become all consuming.

The central plot is that the Louis’ cousin, Princess Louise (Perdita Weeks), is spending a night in Paris before heading on to Sweden and an arranged marriage that will be very politically advantageous to France. It soon becomes obvious that there is someone out there that is plotting against the union however after a number of attempts on her life are made. These failed attacks happen right under the noses of the Musketeers of course, and when the Archbishop gets caught in the line of fire Rochefort is quick to blame them for their ineptitude. They must find out who is behind the plot before they strike again. But with their personal lives becoming ever more entangled, and the assassin’s eye fixed on their former Captain, will they catch the killer before it’s too late?

Around this we have the fallout from the attack on the fort starting to hit home for some of the characters. Aramis may describe the Louvre “the safest building in all of France” to Louise this week, but I think that’s him being a tad naïve, or he could just be trying to reassure a frightened girl. Either way, I feel that comment will be back to haunt him later on in the season. As we know, it’s seen more than its fair share of murders, plotting and kidnaps this season alone, now it also contains a heartbroken Marguerite, who is about to be manipulated by Rochefort. The Comte wants a closer look at the crucifix Aramis wears, which forces her to confront him about his true feelings.

Someone the palace is not going to be containing for very much longer is Milady de Winter, who is unceremoniously turfed out on to the streets of Paris with just her wits and cunning sense of survival to keep her alive. Of course Athos is present to witness her fall from grace, which she only finds even more galling, so it’s no wonder that she is unable to accept his offer of charity and prefers to go it alone. As luck would have it, she’s barely out of the gates when she immediately recognises someone‘s suspicious behaviour...well, they say like attracts like after all. It’s anyone’s guess what she will do with this valuable information at the end of the day though. Like all morally grey character’s she could side with anyone at this point.

Now that Constance has declared her love for d’Artagnan, she must now meet with her husband and inform him that she is going leave him. This sounds simple enough, but we know that Bonacieux is unlikely to take it well as he is paranoid about the two of them already after their affair last year. We find out that the only reason he let his wife take the job at the palace was so that she could promote his name and business at court. The discovery that she hasn’t done this, on top of the news that she now is planning to leave him for another, infuriates him beyond measure and he gives her an ultimatum. She must leave the palace and return home, or there will be consequences.

This week's hangman has been solved, well done all! The additional teaser has been added underneath the hangman.

The second photo clue has been solved Steve Martin + Felicity Huffman both stared in The Spanish Prisoner = Rochefort

The photo clue has been solved Trip Ace Pedal + Anagram = Peter Capadli AKA The Cardinal

We finally learn who is responsible for Rochefort’s extended stay in the Spanish prison. There is a scene between him and Duc de Barville, who is a member of the council, where it is revealed that it was Cardinal Richelieu who instructed that the ransom money was not to be paid. It appears even he knew that the Comte was a bit of a crazy nutter after all.

Y won the first poll and has been added
P won the second poll and has been added
U won the third poll and has been added
K won the fourth poll and has been added
F won the fifth poll and has been added
M won the sixth poll and has been added
L won the seventh poll and has been added

Additional Teaser

The five Musketeers all come into contact with a present of some kind this week. One of them loses one, while another gains one. The most senior one has to fetch a gift for someone, and yet another tries to give one away. The last Musketeer will finally receive something he has been longing to hear.

A Marriage of Inconvenience airs on Friday 27th February at 9pm on BBC 1 in the UK, and on February 28 at 9pm on BBC America. Below are a few dialogue teasers to see you through until then, I will fill in any correct guesses on who said what later in the week. Don't forget to come back to vote in our poll after the episode and let us know what you thought.

“In the meantime, I am going to bed. I am very tired!” Louis to Rochefort

“Doctor Lemay asked me to assist him” Constance to Aramis

“I realised I didn’t want to leave this world with any secrets on my conscience” Treville to Porthos

“You and Constance, you’ll never be happy together” Bonacieux to d'Artagnan

“You have too much to lose and I’m not the man to make you happy” Aramis to Marguerite

“This marriage is my death sentence” Louise to d'Artagnan

“It was a team effort, but yes, I believe we did” Lemay to Constance

“From this distance it’s more accurate than a musket, and it’s easy to conceal” Aramis to the rest of the Musketeers

“You’d be wise not to make an enemy of me” Milady to Rochefort

“The regiment will need a new Captain soon, I could recommend you” Treville to Athos

  7. Or that ! I wonder if anyone knows what the twist is for this weeks episode that was revealed by Australian magazines.

  9. It was inevitable that's how it would play out when she told him, so I'm not surprised. As she's grown stronger in her independence from him and stopped being the obedient wife, his simpering patheticness hasn't been enough to keep her cowed as it once did, and we've noted his actions have got nastier and nastier towards her. Empty threats won't work any more, so this time I'm sure it will be different - these 'consequences' will be severe.

    ReplyDelete
  10. You're right It doesn't matter what he says or do she already made her decision she is stronger now

    ReplyDelete
  11. It's seems like aramis and maragrite will be having the "talk" again break up no 2

    ReplyDelete
  12. he would treathing to tell her family about affair

    ReplyDelete
  13. If she's forced back home, I have a feeling D'Artagnan will go and get her. He now knows beyond a shadow of a doubt that she loves him. How he won't want to rip Bonacieux apart is beyond me.

    ReplyDelete
  14. no photo of queen Anne in episode 7 and 8 I think episode 9/10 will be big for her

    ReplyDelete
  15. i bet in ep9 or 10 she will be in trouble, because Rochefort and Marguerite.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Has anyone found the Australian magazine spoiler? I've tried.... lol

    ReplyDelete
  17. I think Milady is going to turn bad for a while. Adrian said we'd see her being even worse in S2 because of the confirmed 9pm slot but so far, she's been less brutal in a way than she was in S1. I think d'Artagnan will end up getting the King or Athos to grant her forgiveness - to spare her a death sentence - or kill Catherine just in time to save Milady.

How far Bonacieux will follow his book counterpart remains to be seen. He can't take on d'Artagnan on his own but Rochefort or even Milady would be a different matter.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I can't see Marguerite lasting much longer and Aramis will have another woman's death on his conscience again. Lather, rinse, repeat and all that. Its just, I know I should feel sorry for her but I...don't. I feel like she should be more aware. He as good as said it was a fling but she throws herself at him in front of the queen...

    ReplyDelete
  19. It would certainly seem that the theme of vengence in all it's firms will play a huge part as we build to the series finale. So far we have Catherine out there, with two muskets in her waistband and revenge in her mind. She's a silently ticking time bomb. Then there's Rochefort, power hungry and sexually obsessed with the Queen. He's going to be chuffed when he realises Aramis has been there, done that and got the Dauphin and a crucifix to show for it. There's huge potential there for a major threat to life and limb. Throw in Marguerite, a woman scorned, with access to the baby of the woman who shattered her hopes and you've got a very messy brew. Finally of course, Bonacieux. A vain, preening, pathetic creature but also a potentially very dangerous menace. Will Constance ever be free of him in this life? Is it possible though that his plans for vengence might backfire? There's no way he could execute his revenge unaided. He's too much of a coward for that. However, if he chooses Rochefort as his partner, he's thrown his lot in with a psychopath. One who might well see Bonacieux's own death as advantageous. Whether he succeeds with his plans or not, I can't see the draper making it to series three.

    ReplyDelete
  20. It is a shame that they've not only thinly constructed Marguerite but have essentially made her a pathetic creature. I'd mentioned on another thread that her role this far has been to cling to Aramis like pet hair on a sofa. Whether the vengeful Marguerite will be more interesting, remains to be seen. It's certainly hard to see how she could get more boring.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I feel like, after last weeks struggles, we should just attempt the hangman now with the option just to whack any words in the spaces. Lol.

Do we think the show would actually go there and have the baby die? I know the show is all over the place with historical accuracy so that's no issue but how else does that storyline reach any conclusion? Also if he does die then Kind and Queen will have to try for another and well they're not exactly close...would the Queen have another affair?

    ReplyDelete
  22. You have both correct :)

    SPOILER BELOW

The magazine revealed that Perdita Weeks was a 'sexy assassin' a few weeks before the season started, which kind of spoils the twist to the tale. It's been discussed on the site here a few times since the news was released, but I'm hoping that fans do respect that not everyone wants to know that though and will keep that news off social media so people don't stumble across it accidentally.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Just when ARE Porthos, d'Artagnan and Treville going to learn about the baby?
I think they will find out once Rochefort is on the case but who will tell them? Aramis himself? Athos? Constance? Or will they learn about it from Rochefort if the arrest of Aramis takes place? Any one of those is possible.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Episode 8 is a pretty big one for her too in some ways...

    ReplyDelete
  25. It has been talked about quite a bit here before since its publication, I think most of the regulars are aware of it and it's discussed in the episode's Info and Video post too. I have mentioned above in a comment above what it is again if you'd like to see though. I didn't want to put it in the actual preview itself as there are many who read it who do not want to be completely spoiled. I am hoping that fans will respect that and not spread this spoiler on social media, it's managed to stay under the radar so far I think thankfully.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Is this episode very much an essemble one? It looks like all the boys are on the case where the murder plot is concerned and all the boys have their personal issues coming up again, including a hint that Treville is finally going to tell Porthos some truths, which lead into episode 8.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I hope we don't get any spoilers for episode 10, trying to avoid THAT might be quite hard if people are inconsiderate.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yep, all the episodes up to the end of the season now give all the Musketeers more or less the same amount of screen time. They are still split up into pairs, or singled out and in a trio, at times though.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Yeah, hopefully publications won't give too much away beforehand.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Where are you up to now Sandi in terms of the episodes you've seen?

    ReplyDelete
  31. That's incredible Sarah! Well done.😄

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'm so looking forward to the exchange between D'Artagnan and Bonacieux. That's going to be loaded.😱

    ReplyDelete
  33. With Dr Lemay back in the picture this week, I wonder if he's likely to spot any injury to Constance caused by that ratbag Bonacieux. Lemay definitely has a soft spot for Constance and in asking her to assist him, he may be attempting to help her get away from her abusive husband. If he can get her to the Garrison and possibly let D'Artagnan know of his concerns for her, it could get her away from the draper for now.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Can we expect any more d'Artagnan / Athos moments? I think you've already confirmed more Aramis / Porthos scenes..

    ReplyDelete
  35. I fear Anon that we're heading for more "The Musketeers are a waste of oxygen and leather" again this week. I'm now beginning to suspect that they're just copying and pasting parts of the script.

    ReplyDelete
  36. nice team Bonacieux, Rochefort, possibly Marguerite,Catherine.I Think they do a lot of damage.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Ah - so looking forward to Lemay back in this episode. Hopefully, he'll stick around for season 3 as well! Also, I want a front row seat for a showdown between d'Artagnan and Bonacieux if he does find out that he hit Constance! :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. ... He's going to be chuffed when he realises Aramis has been there, done that and got the Dauphin and a crucifix to show for it.....

LMAO! Can you please start writing episode recaps? You could give Red a run for her money. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  39. i like this milady more than season 1. I hope she will be in season 3

    ReplyDelete
  40. Thanks for the preview Sandi - it always makes my day to read this! I know we may already have seen the big spoiler but thankfully I'm still looking forward to this episode. I'm really intrigued as to what secret Treville has been keeping from Porthos about his father. I think it has been teased out well during the rest of the series, so now's the right time to find out. I just hope that whatever it is that Porthos and Treville can rebuild their relationship afterwards, although I imagine that it is going to be tough at first. I'm also predictably looking forward to the interactions between Bonacieux/d'Artagnan and Bonacieux/Constance. Also, so glad that Lemay is back in this episode - he has become a favourite of mine, but hope they don't kill him off like my other favourite this series, Perales! :)

    ReplyDelete
  41. I really believed that Milady had renounced her wicked ways. Looks like that was only wishful thinking. Milady was so badass dressed as a musketeer! I Had hoped there would be some development on that, as well as with her relationship with Athos. He even said, 'you have my respect'... PLEASE DON'T tarnish Athos' respect! He's been through enough heartache for one lifetime!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I was also hoping she had renounced her wicked ways. I know it would be difficult for her to accept Athos' help but hopefully that won't mean she will side again with the wrong side. Poor Athos - just as they seemed to be getting some respect and understanding back again!

    ReplyDelete
  43. I'm afraid that Marguerite could be even worse in her role of vengeful women, simply because she's not smart enough for follow a plan on her own. She will only follow her new "master", while tormented by fear, sadness and doubts. Not a great mix in terms of audience's interest/sympathy for her character.
But sympathy is obviously something the writers didn't want for her, so... cheers, mission accomplished.

    ReplyDelete
  44. if she fail , Rochefort just kill her. he would frame aramis for murder

    ReplyDelete
  45. After the failure of the last episode i think Milady will try to follow her own survival game, as she always did. I don't think she will go against the musketeers, they could easily be on the same side, but this time she will not play like them. And honestly, with Catherine lurking in the dark, Milady has to be well prepared. Wicked more than ever. And i bet that IF Athos will ever find out Catherine's true intention, guilt and sorrow will just be around the corner.

    ReplyDelete
  46. "Anne is in this episode, but i think she have small scenes"
I was fearing she wasn't in the episode, but apparently she is, so, yessss!

    ReplyDelete
  47. I was about to ask you if Anne was in episode 7 and 8, but with that i'm good. Thanks :) Glad to hear that things are moving on!

    ReplyDelete
  48. As someones already said in another comment, babies hardly dye in tv shows. But killing the baby is not exactly a smart way to close the story, because then we got a sorrowed Aramis -and Anne- for all S3, and honestly i had enough of depressed Aramis in the first part of this season. Also, now they showed us that the Queen and Aramis love each others, so for put an end at this they have to stop loving each others... a bit too much for the time left. (Not to mention that this would be a nightmare for me. lol)
As you said the producers don't follow the books, so this is total speculation, but is more likely for the Queen to have another baby, since she had one a couple of year after the first born. Then, she had Mazarino as lover, but put on the show another man intentioned to bed the Queen would be repetitive, that's why i think that Mazarino will be a lot different. (Well, in the books he's a stingy/fool men so i hope they will make him a lot different xD)

Wonder what they mean by "conclusion". For me, at this point, a conclusion for that story would be Aramis and Anne find a smart and secret way to let him see the baby. No more dangerous tricks with other persons, they had to find their own balance.
We want to be lovers? Okay, let's do it in a smart way. We don't want to because is too dangerous? Okay, let's eyecandy in a more discreet way.

  49. right I can't bring myself to feel sorry for her even though what he did was wrong

  50. Margarite will confront Aramis about his true feelings

  51. Just got episode 10 to go now.

    ReplyDelete
  52. After last week's headache I'm sure I'll regret getting involved with another hangman, but I'll give it a shot!

All I can figure so far is we might have 'the Musketeers' at the end of line 2. Beyond that, Anon, you're up. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  53. It's the photos for 2.08 that I'd just posted that I was commenting on more than anything else then, and as you can see there are some of Athos/d'Artagnan spending time together too in that episode ;)

    ReplyDelete
  54. You're welcome Helen. It's a shame that the spoiler is out in some ways, it would have been interesting to see the episode play out without the knowledge in some ways, but never mind, it's still an interesting one.
Lemay is a great character, I do like him a lot. He's only got the one scene this week but it's a fairly harrowing one, and he's a bit of a hero at the end of it :)

    ReplyDelete
  55. Hi Milathos, welcome to the site! Milady has become quite a complex character, I am really enjoying her journey this season. It will be interesting to see what she does with the information she learns this week.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I will go and update it now :)

    ReplyDelete
  57. It was ok for 2 episode now am tired of it

    ReplyDelete
  58. I've just been reading up that the 'Ace of Spades' is traditionally considered the 'death card', so perhaps this is something to do with someone's death!

    ReplyDelete
  59. To be fair, you aren't going to be able to get very far until I get the next clue up tbh. I'm not at home until tonight though, and the missing clue is on my own laptop back there, so it will go up tonight. So I wouldn't try and read too much into any of it until then ;)

    ReplyDelete
  60. so she still in the dark about aramis feelings

    ReplyDelete
  61. Oh thank goodness - I shall have another look later on :)

    ReplyDelete
  62. that information is about Rochefort or assassin in the palace, or someone else in the palace.

    ReplyDelete
  63. "In the meantime ,I am going to bed. I am very tired" Louis to rochefort

"it was a team effort but yes I believe we did so"
    D'artagnan to Louis

    ReplyDelete
  64. "In the meantime ,I am going to bed. I am very tired" Louis to anne

    ReplyDelete
  65. maybe pictures mean that someone spoil another plans. i think milady gonna spoil rochefort plans

    ReplyDelete
  66. Yes she finds out something about someone on her way out of the palace
if it about rochefort I hope she tells athos

    ReplyDelete
  67. Athos and d'Artagnan are probably my favourite friendship, both in the series and the book. I think that they balance each other out well. I do love Aramis and Porthos' friendship too though.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I completely love d'Arthos. They're just so ridiculously adorable together. :)

    ReplyDelete
  69. Ah, that could be it - I wonder what the other picture clue that Sandi has will be then.

    ReplyDelete
  70. "Dr Lemay asked me to assist him." - Constance to Aramis

    ReplyDelete
  71. Could the picture clue be "Awful coward" as in Oar Fall Card? Maybe?

    ReplyDelete
  72. Here's a shout out: Bondadioux goes on a ship, falls overboard, and dies. :D Ok wishful thinking.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Thanks Sandi.....I understand and agree....there are ways to present spoilers, that only those that want them can view...... I'm totally against blurting out spoilers to ruin it for those that don't want em.

    ReplyDelete
  74. "This marriage is my death sentence"

I wonder if d'Artagnan starts to feel sympathy with Louise because of Constance's marriage to Bonacieux?

    ReplyDelete
  75. I vote for Rochefort and Bonacieux to simultaneously slit each other throats.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Ah, but I'm so looking forward to the showdown between Rochefort and the Musketeers...but that would be a quick and convenient way to end it! :)

    ReplyDelete
  77. Is it kind of pitiful that I can't wait until the US broadcast of musketeers, but instead have to "watch" by spending and hour of my Friday evening scanning twitter comments to see what is happening?

    ReplyDelete
  78. I hope terribly that the writers haven't decided to have Athos go through more rubbish with Milady. There has been enough hurt - the poor man has been playing it out for 16 episodes i thought it might be being resolved.

After the loop they made him make last episode in barely the space of an hour, from: 'how can we trust her she's a cheat and a liar' through to having to admit to her that he had respect for her by the end i would feel that all credibility was now lost and the writers had completely lost the plot.

Athos would be a total mess and the viewer would be left feeling he has lost all sense of what made him the man he was thereby losing respect.

Tell me it is no so!

    ReplyDelete
  79. I was going for the "two stones" solution. lol Actually I'm rooting for either Constance or Anne to do the deed.... Milady is too obvious.... Constance because Rochefort's f'ing with her man d'Artagnan or Anne if Rochefort tries to act on his obsession.....
If Rochefort is a snake, then Bonacieux is a worm.....Louis is a manchild.
Rochefort is a really great villain....he truly has no redeeming qualities.... and Bonacieux ... all I can say is "Die Draper Die" I have no patients for a man that raised his hand to a woman....... He doesn't know Constance can shoot and stick, does he. lol

    ReplyDelete
  80. Nope, I do it too. :D

    ReplyDelete
  81. I kind of think what's interesting about Athos relationship with Milady is that it's very schizophrenic. He knows what she's capable of and yet when he looks at her, what he often sees is not the villian but the woman that he was consumed by, who I think loved him as much as she is capable of loving anyone. For a time he was genuinely, blissfully happy with her. I don't think Athos has ever had much experience of happiness in his life. It's never easy when you've loved someone very much, to let go. In his case it's so much harder because he's letting go of a woman he's not really sure ever existed. Was she always this hateful manipulative creature, or is she really the girl who picked forget me knots and seemed to love him with complete abandon. He's also haunted by the decision he made to have her executed. We now know that he didn't exactly give her much opportunity to defend herself and was being harangued by his ex as he tried to make his decision. There are so many unanswered questions and unfinished business between these two. So I'm not really surprised that he can't quite escape her.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I don't think he's too sure WHAT to make of her at the moment, and that's what they're trying to show. I doubt the 'my respect' comment was any sort of heartfelt statement either. He seemed more amused at the irony of the situation than anything else. This week he's had to accept her help to save the day, next week and in the ones after she may have to turn to him. Events are pushing them back into each others' lives whether they want it or not, and it's anybody's guess at this point where they'll end up, but I'm quite sure it won't be in a place of total forgiveness or reconciliation.

    ReplyDelete
  83. I come at it from a different direction..... Milady grew up poor and a theif... then fell in love with Athos..... What if her tale of the brother forcing him self on her is true and she was just defending herself..... That would make Athos the murder (attempted) of the one he loved... I think this is what he wrestles with all the time and why he drinks alone to forget. He would also be responsible for making her the hateful manipulative creature she became.... She's just using what God gave her too survive... We know it wasn't easy for a woman alone in that time period.
All his doubt is starting to show.....with the "you'll be safe here", the look when he gave her a leg up,.... the "you have my respect" We know he isn't over her or she him....
I think it's a great love story..... talk about angst. :)))

  84. There is never a return - the past is gone but, maybe it is me, she still appears to be giving no quarter - i don't see any regret (yet) on her part. I accept, that if it turns out she was only part of what happened to his brother then Athos has to accept the fact that he made no attempts to listen to her and therefore somewhat sealed her fate. However, she never explained the truth to him at the beginning or before it was too late and she resorted to murder.

This never happened to Oliver Reed (teehee)!!

  85. Woah woah woah, its definitely got to be a team effort or my head will explode. Lol.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I absolutely think he will. This sentiment of an arranged marriage being a death sentence, is completely reflected by Constance. He won't want to be party to leading a woman to a marriage she doesn't want. I am so looking forward to the confrontation in the episode between D'Artagnan and Bonacieux. Clearly they must have some interaction. It's long overdue. Constance has taken the flack on her own for long enough. It's time her Musketeer stepped up. I'll be interested to see how he handles it. Will D'Artagnan try to be conciliatory to the "loser"? Or will he take a much more aggressive stance? If he knows at that point that Bonacieux hit Constance, I don't know how he'll contain himself. It will certainly be interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  87. “In the meantime, I am going to bed. I am very tired!” Louis to Rochefort

“Doctor Lemay asked me to assist him” Constance to Bonacieux

“It was a team effort, but yes, I believe we did” Aramis to Louise

    ReplyDelete
  88. Wow! I'd no idea you were at that point. It's pretty much impossible for you to speculate with us now. That's a shame.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Its prob just me but it seems to me that Athos' troubles get drunk away and noticed by everyone. d'Artagnan doesn't seem to have many on going issues but they all rally round if needed to. Porthos has Aramis defending him and asking about his problems. Aramis.... ? Why does he always seem to be off doing his own thing? It was one of my real dislikes about The Good Soldier. Nobody seemed to be there for him. (Think they did that story too soon too but neymind). Anyway, his storyline looks like its going to go kaboom at some point and he needs more folk on his side...

Ok we have a 'y'...yeah....let's play hangman!

    ReplyDelete
  90. Can you answer if they would be any big Athos and Milady scenes in any episodes after this? or if Milady will be in the next three at all? Sorry if I'm hassling

    ReplyDelete
  91. I'm pretty surprised I have to say, that an actor of Ed Stoppard's profile and calibre would have taken such a very small role. Cumulatively he's had relatively little screen time. Perhaps he'll have much more to do in his final episode.

    ReplyDelete
  92. I actually don't think that's true. Athos has already expressed his view that for him, the past is never dead and not everyone can be so sanguine about not looking back. Particularly when the past is filled with pain and unanswered questions. I also think Milady has shown that she still has very conflicted feelings about Athos. She had a prime opportunity to kill him in episode one and couldn't bring herself to do it. It was also clear that when she thought D'Artagnan had killed Athos, she found the thought of a world without him in it, difficult to accept. You're right thought this never did happen to Oli.:)

    ReplyDelete
  93. Me too am patiently waiting for them to figure him out

    ReplyDelete
  94. You're not alone :) I have found myself doing similar things if the US is showing a key episode of other series I've watched before they are viewed in the UK. However, there are many times I wished I hadn't and waited to see it without being spoiled.

    ReplyDelete
  95. And you have to wait for fangirling out loud... i imagine this thing of getting episodes early is cool and devasting at the same time!

    ReplyDelete
  96. Oh, that would be pretty cool to have Constance do the act!!!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  97. You are not alone. Last Friday episode 6 was up on Youtube just a few hours after the UK broadcast.(I hope I'm allowed to say this) I was able to watch it then. BBC America seems to edit little bits here and there so on Sundays I've been purchasing the new episode on Amazon Prime. It's only 1.99. It's worth it to me because I get the whole episode un-edited and commercial free.
I also pre-ordered the season 2 Blu-ray....April 21 is the release day I believe. I think I can qualify as obsessed LOL

    ReplyDelete
  98. I can't help but feel that this series is going to end with the Musketeers in a pretty dark place. Putting aside who might live and who might die, it's going to be tough for Athos to accept some of what Aramis has done. He begged him to stay away from the Queen and not only did he not do that, he ended up compromising Marguerite in his determination to see his son. Porthos and D'Artagnan too are going to struggle with the secret and indeed D'Artagnan may deeply resent that Constance was also exposed to it and her safety potentially compromised as a result. They'll need Treville and the leadership he provides, to pull them back together again. It could be that this series will end with a fracturing, that perhaps won't be resolved until series three.

    ReplyDelete
  99. I know a lot of people hate the idea of Athos/Milady together. I mean, I understand, so many and terrible things happened between them... but they have sooo much chemistry! lol.
They obviously still love each other and they will never love anyone else like they love each other. That's depressing and sad but that's how they have been characterized.

I'm not delusional though and know they won't end up together (no happy ending for Milathos) but it would be a waste (imo) if the writers do nothing with them. Also, and that's only my opinion, I think the writers enjoy writing about them and their conflicted relationship. And as a Athos/Milady fan, I selfishly hope that we'll see more of them together in the future.

And naively I still hope that Milady will see the light one day. Of course, she will never be as virtuous as Constance (and I don't think that what the viewers want) but I'd like to see her change for the better... a bit like Sawyer from Lost (though he wasn't as "bad" as Milady).

    ReplyDelete
  100. I really hope you're wrong. :(

    ReplyDelete
  101. Thanks again Sandi for the preview ! really great as this episode.
Now the show seems to be more interesting and not slowly as before .

Really looking for the interaction between D'Artagnan and Bonacieux but also Rocheford & Marguerite ( I really want to know if she'll succeed to steal his necklace -I don't think so-) and Rocheford & Milady. (ohh sound interesting) .
The Milady's act is also something I really wanna see now that i've read the sandi's preview. The interaction of milathos from the preview of next episode is really interesting even if she won't ask for help from Athos hope he will help her indirectly.

I've seen almost the quotes have found their speaker (great job!).
So the first quotes is from Louis (he always seems bored even he faced the danger last week)
About Having a new captain I know that Athos could be a great captain but I don't want him or any other, Theville is at his best place when he is the captain.

  102. I know a ton of servers you can get the file about 5 min after is airs.....Happy to hint at some names, but I know they'll censor links.... been there before..... It's the way I watch and I don't feel it's cheating because I buy the DVD's when they become available...Easy to HDMI the laptop to any flat screen....

    ReplyDelete
  103. I just can't see the logic in this series ending with a group hug. The sheer magnitude of the secrets being held and the implications for so many people, is such that there's got to be fallout. I've no doubt they'll overcome it but a quick whitewash at the end would seem like a cop out.

    ReplyDelete
  104. I guess it depends how it all comes out. If they've written it well, they can reveal all the secrets without fracturing them horrifically down the middle, and still be talking at the end of the series. Of course the group hug won't be immediate - not after all that's happened - but I don't think it will be a whitewash either.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Agree with you about them and it seems that their relationship is like "follow me I'll flee from you, Flee from me, I'll follow you" but I don't know if it's the same as french people say "fuis moi je te suis, suis moi je te fuis" showing that someone is distance but the other is interest in that person and vice-versa.

    ReplyDelete
  106. "am I am you, I am you flee" pretty much sums it up, thanks xD

    ReplyDelete
  107. you're welcome ^^, and thanks for correcting me !

    ReplyDelete
  108. Yeah. I find it a couple hours later typically. But since I'll buy the DVD and the Amazon streaming versions, I don't feel bad about it.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Not correcting. lol... I don't speak fluent French....Fluent Computerese.... xD My native language is Cowboy. :))

    ReplyDelete
  110. Sing out if you get stuck. :))

    ReplyDelete
  111. oh Okay ! I thought it's wasn't really good my translation of the idea but it's ok.

    ReplyDelete
  112. I know the feeling, unfortunately we have to censor any links like that on here as we can get into a lot of trouble for allowing the information to be passed on between people, even though we're not involved. Stupid I know, but we are bound to follow the copyright laws I am afraid :(

(Just running through the comments quickly to check up the new guesses on the quotes as I'm updating the post, so sorry to be brief atm, I'll be back to reply to stuff more in a bit x)

    ReplyDelete
  113. Might have to email you later if I can't get my Musketeer fix quickly enough :D

    ReplyDelete
  114. i think Treville suspect something. He not stupid.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Yeah, it's a bit frustrating to say the least! At least with the show I'm previewing atm there are other staff members who watch it so we have been able to chat about the screeners together when they came in, lol. I've just got my hands on the first few episodes of Banished though, so that should keep me busy for a while, then the Poldark screeners should be up next :)

    ReplyDelete
  116. Gosh my mind jump to "falling down and fleeing" Scramble might spell out aramis. Need Wine, that might help..

    ReplyDelete
  117. I try not to answer too much ahead of the episode we're on, but yes she is going to be having an interesting time ahead of her :)

    ReplyDelete
  118. Ok, so it's an anagram of 'trip, ace, pedal'?

    ReplyDelete
  119. In the last sentence - it/appears/that/?

    ReplyDelete
  120. to cont...we/have/some??

    ReplyDelete
  121. The picture clue is an anagram of 'Peter Capaldi' - does that mean he is going to drop another bombshell from beyond the grave!

    ReplyDelete
  122. No worries :) It's been discussed on here before a few times so I didn't think of putting a link up, sorry. It wasn't until the press release for this episode came out that someone - I think Scoobie iirc? - pointed out that we'd already been told what her character was, and it clashed with what the press release said, so we knew she was undercover. The other spoilers the magazine had were old news by that point - Constagnan getting back together, Liam Cunningham being Porthis' dad.

    ReplyDelete
  123. ugh hope not. the only tie to that is that Rochefort know stuff about Milady due to the priest who knew some of the Cardinals secrets about her.

    ReplyDelete
  124. They are aren't they, the two of them play off each other perfectly as actors and characters.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Yeah, I was pretty surprised too really. I think perhaps, again, a scene or two of his may be on the cutting room floor as it does feel like he should have been on the screen more than he has been. He does have a bit more to do in the next couple of episodes, not a huge amount, but he's just a brilliant actor you take what you can get of him imo

    ReplyDelete
  126. Yes. He did that showing him Adele but would he do it more that once?

    ReplyDelete
  127. Totally agree, he obviously wanted to seek revenge on Aramis beyond the grave and that would be the ultimate taunt.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Oh Sandi......are you going to have a section for Poldark? I'm so looking forward to that show!

    ReplyDelete
  129. That's true. We was just a "piece of work" always having it out for the Musketeers no matter who it is.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Welcome to the site Lis :) The first one is correct. As I've mentioned to annamisxx in a comment above, Louis has been shaken by the experience at the fort and doesn't feel safe at all now. Imagine how he's going to feel now there is an assassin on the prowl too...

    ReplyDelete
  131. In my opinion a guess is not enough to prove that the Dauphin is Aramis' and not the Kings. After all he is dead and without any proof or evidence I doubt his predictions would reveal anything to the court. I would like to see how it plays out though, hopefully it's not as bad as we think it might turn out to be!

    ReplyDelete
  132. 3rd sentence down, 4th word in.

    ReplyDelete
  133. One of the stories the guys told at the screening was that Santi is like Aramis in some ways because you can't always tell when something is up with him. The more scared of something he is, or if he's down, the bigger and more laid back his smile gets, and it took them a while to understand this about him. They'd try and spook him on set, like they do to each other, but it seemed impossible to manage to get him. Then they found out why.

    ReplyDelete
  134. You're very good at these picture clues ;)

    ReplyDelete
  135. Thanks again..... I love the series...a brotherhood of secret service cowboys...ridin', shootn' and saving the day.....The BBC has done a fantastic job with the sets, costumes, casting, and story lines..... It was made for me...I usually post on another page, but I'm glad I found you guys while I was pokin' around.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Sorry Sandi ;) I think it's a kind of brain trainer - I didn't used to be but doing these hangmans helps!! I think it will take us all week to solve this hangman although :)

    ReplyDelete
  137. Im not too concerned with the interaction between D'Artagnan and Bonacieux, mainly because D'artagnan has no reason to be scared from him however I am more concerned for Constance though. In my opinion she should've just continue an affair and stay married to Bonacieux because now I'm pretty sure Rochefort will team up with him and use him to bring down Constance and D'artagnan. I do have to say that although I ship all the couples in this show, I'd have to say I like Annamis much more than the other couples so im not really too focused on Costagnan or Milathos this season.

    ReplyDelete
  138. It is gorgeously put together, and a top cast and crew. It's just so completely beyond me that the BBC aren't publicising it at all this side of the pond! Such a shame.

    ReplyDelete
  139. Holy picture clues batwoman! How the heck did you get that. Genius! :)

    ReplyDelete
  140. Goodness knows - a bit of luck!!!! A large piece of paper helps!!! I've got no idea on the hangman yet although!

    ReplyDelete
  141. Thank you Sandi. That is very interesting. The things I learn on this forum. Loving it.

    ReplyDelete
  142. TPTB (the powers that be) drop the ball alot on quality series....Downton seemed to catch on, but your right they haven't really pushed it in the states.... I came late to watching, but I got to binge watch all of S1 which was cool....(a couple of times, lol) They do have a challenge, because everyone knows none of the boys are dying.... so the angst has to come from unfulfilled relationships and personal growth arcs..... Hey, they done a great job.... the fight scenes keep getting better and better....205 was a great example.....Where I post we go crazy with vids and pics, but your liner format has it's advantages too.... I won't be a stranger. xD

    ReplyDelete
  143. If the picture clue is Cardinal then it's more likely that the scrambled letters are Aramis. Just a thought.

    ReplyDelete
  144. You're welcome jagoda :)

The two of them don't spend much time together for a while, but there is obviously the plot arc around them building due to the crucifix.

    ReplyDelete
  145. Poldark! Now I'm seriously jealous. You'll get to see the Turner torso in action way before the rest of us. :)

    ReplyDelete
  146. It's good to have you here, the more the merrier :) We have a small G+ community too were it's easy for pics and vids, but tbh we spend most of our time here, lol

    ReplyDelete
  147. The casting director Jill Trevellick did a great job fleshing out each character with just the right actor..... I really like all the "boot camp" vids.

    ReplyDelete
  148. Hehe ;) I hope to see you over there when I start posting then? I'm guessing it will probably be a tad quieter as it's a new show. My friend Geo will hopefully be doing the reviews too, he's stateside but into period dramas and is interested in that period :)

    ReplyDelete
  149. Worms squirm.....that's what they do. lol

    ReplyDelete
  150. I think it came out as we were chatting about the stunt in last week's episode where he had to climb back up the building. He's terrified of heights, but had to grit his teeth and just do it. I have to say that it looked even worse that it was described tbh, lol

    ReplyDelete
  151. I watched a vid on the water stunt in 201, I hope we get one for the building, too. I know the boys do most of their own stunts, but do you know if Santi did the fall??? Even in slo-mo the face wasn't clear.... thanks

    ReplyDelete
  152. Oh Sandi - I know you can't but I wish you could give me a private spoiler for ep 10 when you watch as I am getting more and more worried that Constance is going to die. :( I will be crushed but i'd rather be put out of my misery sooner than later. I almost want to stop watching the show now because the thought of it...

    ReplyDelete
  153. or "he opposes them"

    ReplyDelete
  154. I was thinking about something... If Milady refuse Athos help... he is freaking out about it???? I wonder what kind of reaction he have!?!?! I want to see Athos losing is cool for once like in episode 1x07!!!!! It was such a great scene for him!!!! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  155. Er...is there another Anon out there because I was asleep when this was asked? Lol

    ReplyDelete
  156. Cool thanks :-) love little extras like this. Although if you know someone is prone to papering over cracks with a smile, wouldn't you watch for that? If these guys understand it after a couple of years then the Musketeers should watch for it shouldn't they? Basically, I just want Porthos in the loop cos Athos has been of bog all use. Porthos should have worked something out by now anyway. Yeah it still bugs me. Lol

    ReplyDelete
  157. it's great to no any other interruption for now, 3 episode successive, now the things are moving (yeh!) .
Hope the next time he'll think more about the king's proposition or I hope the king will give him an other chance to say yes to that proposition but with Rocheford at the king's side it'll be a little hard -Rocheford doesn't seem to hold the Captain dear at his heart-

    ReplyDelete
  158. so the Cardinal is the cause of almost all the mess in the episode (more he drop bombs more everyone in the palace is in danger, ~ohh)

Great Helen, you found it !

    ReplyDelete
  159. I meant to ask Sandi, you mentioned that you have now watched up to episode nine and are now awaiting the finale. Can I just ask, is it essentially a two part finale? I seem to remember the suggestion back in the dim and distant, that nine and ten would essentially form the finale.

    ReplyDelete
  160. Afaik the name you use to log in to Disqus has to be unique, but the 'Full Name' bit you put in your profile settings, which is the name that appears next to your posts, doesn't, you can alter that to what ever you want it to say.

    ReplyDelete
  161. Something must worry Athos about her being out there again unsupported. He knows she's a cat who lands on her feet, so I suspect that last week's events have softened his view of her. I also think he'll see the injustice of the King's behaviour. Yes, she was largely self motivated but her actions saved his sorry behind at the fort. Now she's going to be turfed out on hers. The tangled web of events is certainky becoming ever more interesting as we head to the finale, with a multitude of characters now facing down threats the magnitude of which have yet to reveal themselves. What worries me slightly is how this will all come together coherently at the end. The Aramis/Queenie/Dauphin/Marguerite/Rochefort saga, the Constance/D'Artagnan/Bonacieux dilemma and the Athos/Milady/Catherine story that's bubbling away in the background. Instead of killing Milady as he threatened, could Athos eventually save her life and kill his former bethrothed or will Milady finally redeem herself only to be killed by the woman she usurped? How the heck are the squeezing all this in and how will they do it without short-changing some of the stories?

    ReplyDelete
  162. the clue Father of the bride sorry I had to try lol

    ReplyDelete
  163. Nothing to do with Father of the Bride, sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  164. A great comedian and actor.

    ReplyDelete
  165. Very! I was nuts on The Man With Two Brains as a teenager, lol

    ReplyDelete
  166. Is there a second pic clue ?

    ReplyDelete
  167. There will be more added with each update :)

    ReplyDelete
  168. Yeah, it's a two part finale. Well, in some ways it's almost a continuing journey from now until the finale really. The arcs that (I assume) will be solved in the finale really start building in this episode, but there is obviously the additional stories in eps 7 & 8 - Princess Louise & Porthos' dad - where as the finale eps seem to stand alone.

    ReplyDelete
  169. Yeah, you'd think they'd pick up on it too, lol

    ReplyDelete
  170. That has to be Richelieu third word from the end in the middle line...?

    ReplyDelete
  171. Thanks Sandi. When do you think they'll let you see 10?

    ReplyDelete
  172. I'm hoping for a video of that too. I'm not 100% sure tbh, he described a fall from a window (but not through it as I remember), and hanging about in midair a lot in a harness outside a window, and having to scale a building once the fall was done.

The things is, he really did make it sound like it was only terrifying because of his issue with heights, so I wasn't expecting what we saw in last week's episode at all!

    ReplyDelete
  173. I'm guessing it was trained to be attracted to some kind of food, or smell, that they used on his costume. It certainly didn't want to leave his side did it...can't say I blamed it ;) lol

    ReplyDelete
  174. RND is on Friday13th March - are we heading for another break before the finale, have you heard?

    ReplyDelete
  175. I'm actual looking forward to this episode as much, if not more so than last week's. It feels as though we're finally going somewhere and plotlines are being slotted into place. I really hope they keep the energy levels up over the next four episode and things don't become too frenetic given the range of storylines that need to be progressed or concluded.

    ReplyDelete
  176. Me too Scoobie :) I am still buzzing from last week's episode but really looking forward to this episode and seeing how everything pans out. There are just so many plots and subplots - it is going to be very interesting how these are all going to be dealt with before the end of the series. I can't believe there are only 4 episodes left in which to conclude these!

    ReplyDelete
  177. I know! My guess is that they're going to have to try to hang it all around the one central plot, which I assume will be Rochefort finally putting his plans into action, having succeeded in isolating the Queen from anyone who might provide her with some support. How will the Musketeers discover the truth? Might Marguerite cave and reveal what she knows of Rochefort's intentions? Could Milady be the key? Where will Constance be in all of this? Will she return to the Queen's side? Or does she have her own battles to fight elsewhere? and how the heck does Catherine and her twin muskets come into it all? Yikes!!

    ReplyDelete
  178. potentially to/the/spanish/prince at the end of the first line

    ReplyDelete
  179. I was thinking 'palace' for that one. Not sure in what context though!

    ReplyDelete
  180. The fall-out from all the series' storylines should be where most of the excitement begins...

    ReplyDelete
  181. If episodes 9 and 10 are effectively a two-part final, they've got the equivalent of a 2 hour movie to sort it all out.. :)

    ReplyDelete
  182. I'm seriously worried about Catherine and those muskets. Do you think that they hold the Athos family name on them, and that she'll use them to frame Athos for murder in a twisted attempt at revenge?

    ReplyDelete
  183. I don't think there'd be time to give Athos a major plotline like that during the series final, what with so many other things going on, including the possibility of Rochefort spilling the beans about Aramis and the dauphin..
My guess is that Catherine is being used as part of the final in order for Athos to finally learn what happened to his brother on the day he died and perhaps learn that Milady was innocent after all.

    ReplyDelete
  184. You're probably right. That would be equally interesting and heartbreaking to watch. I hope that if that is the case, that either Athos or Milady are able to exact their revenge on her.

    ReplyDelete
  185. One of my bug bears with the show has been that there has not been enough dialogue at times of major dramatic set pieces. Last year when Milady spilled the beans to D'artagnan about her, Athos and the killing of his brother, there should have been time for D'artagnan to have confronted Athos with what he knew instead of everything having to be assumed off screen or Aramis having at least a few words with Anne about the pregnancy and his feelings.

My biggest hope is that all these complicated storylines are concluded
satisfactorily whichever one is of interest to each of us. The fear is
that the timescale involved could lead to some feeling short changed in
    conclusion - or not conclusion.

All this, plus the story of Porthos and his father. I hope for satisfaction for all but i am not convinced.

    ReplyDelete
  186. One of the often talked about 'wish list' scenes is the one where the whole story about Athos/d'Artagnan/Milady is revealed. The conversation between d'Artagnan and Athos would have been brilliant to see.

    ReplyDelete
  187. Ohh ~ seems interesting 😄

    ReplyDelete
  188. If you haven't seen it already, this might be relevant to your interest: http://archiveofourown.org/works/1400155/chapters/2935459

    ReplyDelete
  189. I think the of Steve Martin means that we'll have some dealings with the father of the bride.

    ReplyDelete
  190. I would have thought another break is almost certain. They've treated the series like garbage this year but I still think they'll want to run 9 and 10 back to back on BBC One.

    ReplyDelete
  191. Better between 8 and 9 than 9 and 10...

    ReplyDelete
  192. Forgive me if someone has already guessed this or if it has already been worked out but how about Athos saying "It was a team effort, but yes, I believe we did" to the other Musketeers?
