  1. I like listening to your podcast. One suggestion, can you list the start time for each of the shows? Thanks

  2. Lol on your guys reaction on Arrow. I get your issues, I do enjoy Olicity and what happend is part of it. Not a good idea to use it as a cliffhanger though.
Still very curious on the big plot this season. In S2 it was predictable. S3 could be awesome or a big let down.
The Blacklist, don't know yet if I will continue...
AoS hurray hurray! But I prefered Arrow midseason.
BTW no comment on the kids of Arrow? Just rewatched Batman Begins compared to the kid there in GOTHAM Bruce Wayne is much better.
You guys should create your own series, CJ has great ideas.

  3. Olicity is by far the weakest thing about the show this season. I'm not a shipper in general but it's just been so poor. And I'd probably rank Arrow and SHIELD midseason finale about the same tbh. Oh yeah and that kid that played Tommy was so bad lol. But no way will you ever get me to admit Bruce Wayne on Gotham is good lol. I liked David Mazouz much better on Touch when he didn't say anything haha

Blacklist... hmm. I was tempted at the start of the season to just ignore the Blacklist until midseason and binge watch and likewise from there until the end of the season. But I'll stick with it just for Spader.

If CJ wrote a series it would just be pun after pun after pun and even the 22 listeners we have wouldn't watch ;)

  4. Really? The weakest? Not the poor writing in general? I think that while they can get on my nerves from time to time they aren't even near to the weakest thing about the show. Here's my list of the weakest things:

    1. Ra's Al ghul and the LoA have been made to seem really incompetent
    2. Oliver teaming up with Merlyn is all kinds of ridiculous especially paired with Merlyns supposed redemption?
    3. The amount of plot holes in this season alone are staggering.
    4. They botched up Saras death and made it almost seem meaningless. Seriously though, I see no point in the first half of the season. It was a poor man's Veronica Mars/ sherlock.
    5. Thea's entire arc reflects poorly on her character. That too her agency was taken away just for plots sake was ridiculous.
    6. Quentin Lance not knowing about Sara is by far the worst thing about the show. It's just contrived drama.
    7. Diggle being sidelined for it to make sense for Laurel to go into the field is the worst and nonsensical.
    8. Ray Palmer is pretty much there for manufactured drama. And the fact that he only has scenes with Felicity is terrible. How can he grow as a character when all he does is hang around her?
    9. Ray Palmer was supposed to enrich Felicitys story not take away from it. It seems as though Felicity has become a sort of cheerleader to the heroes in masks which apparently is more important than felicity having her own arc. Not to mention that felicity around Palmer is just not that likable? I'm looking at episode 7 for this one.
    10. Where is this season even going? Like what is the point of it? The writers have failed to show why laurel is important, they're constantly making their characters incompetent for plots sake, they're making Oliver make rash decisions by teaming up with malcolm without exhausting other opportunities... I could go on.

Sure Oliver/Felicity in the first half of season 3 had a lot of forced drama to endure, and I agree it was kind of annoying. But this is actually the first time they're writing the couple well because this drama isn't plot driven, it's character driven. Oliver is more of a let the ends justify the means type guy and felicity isn't. This ideological difference is what's keeping them apart. That Imo is good writing. It was a powerful scene.

So while the writers are failing in almost every other regard, I feel like they're finally going about the whole Oliver / felicity thing well. Because the drama is not just about the relationship, but about them as individual characters. Olivers is about growing to be hero as well as Oliver Queen, and felicitys is about finding a life outside of the arrow cave. And by life I mean future. Because right now she clearly doesn't think she has one with Oliver.

Anyways this got long. I apologize :p

  5. ok ok. I am going to stop with David Mazouz ;-) I had to bring it up one last time after just watching Batman Begins...
I'll probably catch up on The Blacklist at some point but don't feel driven to see it weekly.
In general I enjoy all Olicity scenes (thus I am a shipper) but it does not mean I am 100% happy about how it's beeing done, from the start I feared it would be rushed and all the angsty drama proves it true, still enjoying it though (thats the irrational shipper in me).

Well I said you guys should write/create a series you and TheODI will keep CJ in check ;-)

  6. Not sure about Ra's and the League being incompetent?
The Oliver-Merlyn thing does seem a little forced but I quite like it.
There have always been plot holes; I've learned to ignore the smaller ones.
    Yep, Sara's death was stupid.
I've been OK with Thea's arc this year - it's far from the worst thing on the show atm.
Oh, Quentin not knowing annoys me so much. And Laurel pretending to be Sara? NO.
Dig being sidelined has annoyed me for over a season and a half now.
I like the Ray-Felicity scenes - in fact, they're pretty much my favourite Felicity scenes lately. But yes, he needs scenes with others to develop.
The season has no direction, definitely.

I didn't think I had that many problems with the season, but clearly I do lol. Olicity's just been the big problem that stands out for me. But there are a lot more than just that, you're right.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Olicity has been so rushed, and I hate how they wasted episode 7 to make it about them. Just put it on the backburner if it's not gonna be done right.

We try, but there is no keeping CJ in check. It was only because he'd not watched Blacklist, HTGAWM or whatever else we discussed (I haven't listened yet and it's been a long two days lol)

    ReplyDelete
  8. I suppose it's personal preference! I thoroughly have been enjoying their arc as of late (since episode 9). While I do see why some people who didn't see them being a couple in season 2 would think that they were rushed. I personally saw them heading into a romantic relationship ever since they went to Russia so it wasn't rushed for me. ALTHOUGH I'm super pissed that we didn't get a smoother transition between them growing from partners to romantic partners. I would've liked to have seen all that flirting.

As for the LoA being incompetent, I mean, they want Malcolm dead, yet Malcolm is traipsing along in starling and is still alive. Ra's couldn't even kill Oliver even though he's supposedly killed thousands of men in his life... IDK they're coming off looking a bit incompetent to me.

I guess with me, whenever there's a plot hole I just can't let it go :/ What's an issue with this season is that almost every aspect of the show requires so much fanwank. Good TV shows shouldn't really be like that.

Thea's arc has been frustrating at best for me because she hasn't done anything. Maybe that's why it's far from the worst thing for you? :p

Ted getting beaten up so easily in the last episode makes me side-eye the legitimacy of Laurel's training. This is an issue I have with Laurel. THey're developing BC but they're regressing LAUREL who IMO should be more important than her mask. I guess this is why I'm still not on the Laurel train. Her mini arc was a failure because last episode not a lot of people talked about her, episode 11 was a mixed bag, and episode 10 was more about Felicity/Diggle than Laurel herself... It's great more people are liking her though! I personally don't see the appeal. Maybe because for me just because a person is badass doesn't instantly make them awesome. Hopefully episode 13 helps characterize Laurel better, but after her impersonating Sara, I don't think I'll ever like her.

I think the payoff for the olicity angst will be great though. Felicity sort of made Oliver think about his decisions and what it means for the people in his life. I think that's a positive thing for Oliver to grow as a person. Hopefully by the end of the season, he'll learn to respect the people in his life, and Felicity just gave him a big kick start. I'm glad she didn't enable him in the last episode. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

  9. I knew they'd become a couple from watching season 2, but doesn't mean I liked it. Whole thing has been handled terribly.

    Yeah, I guess.

There's so much wrong with Laurel's arc I don't even know where to begin. She wasn't annoying me so much until she impersonated Sara, but her arc has had virtually no development. Especially after her encounter with Ted in 12 suggested to me that she stopped training after episode 6, which annoys me even further. They killed Sara to give her a story and they're failing at it.

Which brings me into another reason I have a problem with Olicity. If they kill Sara to make Laurel BC to: a) give her an arc, and b) stay true to the comics, surely Oliver's relationship endgame is with Laurel? If they're gonna do it for one, they'll do it for the other you'd think. If so, they need to develop the Oliver-Laurel relationship more and Olicity less. If not, and Olicity is the endgame, then they need to do it a hell of a lot better and fast.

    ReplyDelete
  10. It's tough to say what the endgame is. Would I like it to be Oliver/Felicity, hell yeah! But I don't think it's fair to take Laurel off the table because of the whole 'because comics!' thing. I mean, let's be real, if Laurel wasn't BC and didn't have the middle name Dinah, we wouldn't even be having this discussion right now. But because of a stupid name, we are.

I think they're writing Olicity better now (as opposed to the first half of this season), but I don't think that you'll like their dynamic in the episodes to come because they'll still be very angsty after where the last episode left off.

As for Lauriver happening again, I honestly can't see it unless they kill off Felicity, which I don't think they'll do because she's the show's most talked about, and loved character (I would say Diggle but he's not as talked about). Oliver's feelings for Felicity are intense. His last thought of her was of their kiss, he dreamed about her, he just really loves her... I don't think you can really erase that because with Felicity, he's been developing those feelings since they met after the island. I know people can say, but Oliver carried a photo of Laurel and she's the person who helped him survive the island... I don't think it's that simple. I think Oliver kept that photo because it was familiar. It wasn't necessarily LAUREL he was fighting to get back for, but for his life back in Starling as well as Laurel's forgiveness (which is different). Season 1 explored their romance. Season 2 effectively put the final nail in it.

Look at season 3 now. Laurel and Oliver are barely interacting. And anytime they do, they're butting heads. Both of them are just too similar, and too damaged to ever be in a relationship with one another, I think. Like Sara said, Oliver needs people in his life that don't wear a mask.

And I didn't really take your last paragraph as a problem with OLICITY, but more of an issue with who the endgame couple is. Hell, it might be neither! Oliver could probably end up alone. Although, after all he's been through, I really hope he has a companion.

As for Laurel's arc, I honestly can't believe people are buying it :p It's one of the worst written arcs on the show right now. I would actually call it the weakest part about the show because when it comes to Laurel's arc, everything feels contrived. Sara's death, contrived. Sidelining Diggle, contrived. Felicity making Laurel put her mask back on, contrived (imo). I liked how they made Laurel struggle in episode 11, but she didn't seem to have a problem in episode 12 and fared better than Ted? smh

I can't believe Sara had to die for this BS story. And all because of a stupid name.

  11. I don't think the writing for Olicity has improved as the season has gone on, but I agree with the rest of your points. If the next three episodes don't drastically improve, I'm prepared to write this season off as a failure.

    ReplyDelete
  12. SAME! I'm waiting till February sweeps are over to make a judgement call on the season. While we should agree to disagree on Olicity (since we're getting nowhere and it's all to do with personal preference), even THEY can't make me tune into the show every week which says a lot. I'll probably downgrade Arrow to binge watch status over the summer :p

I think the strongest thing about the show right now is Maseo and Tatsu which is saying a lot because they're literally in less than 5 minutes of every episode.

I think the EPs have stretched themselves too thin this season. I want AK to come back to Arrow because Flash has been really successful (and better than Arrow IMO).

This whole season has just been one big contrivance after another. So sad considering how much I was looking forward to this season over the summer .

  13. Btw, just after posting I was convinced to watch The Blacklist.....

    ReplyDelete
  14. Lol. I'd watch it just because of Spader (I do, in fact).

  15. 100% agree with the odd regarding the blacklist. I'm honestly on the verge of stopping watching it
