This table shows the early overnight ratings. These ratings are normally adjusted later in the day when all the ratings have been consolidated to take into account any local preemptions and/or overruns. You can find all the final adjusted numbers in our Ratings Database. (See the About section below for details about ratings)
The analysis below is based on the early household numbers and are NOT the same as the numbers that will be posted in the above table later. (See the About section below)

Very nice for The Blacklist.
ReplyDeleteGo Blacklist!
ReplyDeleteIf it weren't for the long post show it would have done higher
ReplyDeleteComparison for Elementary isn't quite apples-to-apples - Elementary was started at 11:15 ET due to the 30+ minute power outage in New Orleans.
ReplyDeleteGreat for the Blackist. It looks like a success, bur skew is a big factor here. It's *very* hard to skew old post Superbowl. I think Criminal Mind's like 46% is the oldest one we have on record. I think The Blacklist probably skewed older than New Girl, but younger than Elementary
ReplyDeleteAnd the Voice isn't either, it started an hour before Elementary and a half hour befor the Blacklist. All lead outs have high variables.
ReplyDeleteWhen you compare TBL to TV as NBC does, it's quite disappointment 20 > 13.5 (that's a huge difference).
ReplyDeleteThe postgame show was long (30 minutes), so its start was pretty late.
ReplyDeleteThe Blacklist only started sensibly 12 minutes later than Grey's Anatomy.
ReplyDeleteYes. It started much earlier. It's also a thousand times more family friendly. I don't think its disappointing at all. The Voice had one of the best post Superbowl showings in the last 10 years.
ReplyDeleteI hope so too. After the conclusion, they have 12 episodes left. That's enough for a whole miniseason worth of stuff
ReplyDeleteIf you go back and look at historical viewership for post-Superbowl shows, it was never THAT huge. (Assuming Wikipedia is correct, of course.) TV was definitely towards the upper end, especially in more recent times.
ReplyDeleteAny viewership prediction for Blacklist?
ReplyDeleteThe post-game was a bit longer, a close game helped the show, that's for sure.
Probably around 12.0.
ReplyDeleteThe real test will be seeing how many people actually keep tuning in during regular episodes. In recent years shows don't seem to be getting much of a benefit at all..
ReplyDeleteThat's entirely debatable.
ReplyDeleteActually, House tied the Tuesday edition of American Idol but not the Wednesday edition (14.4).
ReplyDeleteAlso, it's not that impressive, given how low American Idol is.
It appears the blacklist has done well, though as always I am very wary of using the HH numbers for that.
ReplyDeleteI agree. The Blacklist is really coming into its own with its 2nd season. Very good episode. I just hope that the 2nd half sets us up for the rest of the season.
ReplyDeleteThis is the METERED markets rating,so the final will lower.
ReplyDeleteI didn't.
ReplyDeleteNone, really.
ReplyDeleteRight, but the postgame when Grey's aired was a mere 15 minutes, hence the higher retention for Grey's.
ReplyDeleteCrazy fact about House's post Superbowl episode: It didn't even beat the 2 American Idols that week! The Blacklist only needs a 2.8 to pull that off!
ReplyDeleteNo worries it will likely settle in mid 2s which would be the highest NBC had in that slot
ReplyDeleteSo around 28-30 million ?
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of the Blacklist episode itself: It was one of the best the show has ever done. Great, self contained, episode that anyone could just jump into. It was much more a thriller than a procedural that episode, which was great. I don't think the Post Game was historically *that* long, but it felt like it. I kept thinking, "Yes, Bob Costas, the Patriots did great, but the fate of NBC Thursdays is here. Play the damn show!"
ReplyDeleteGreat for The Blacklist. And the first part sets up the second part perfectly on Thursday.
ReplyDeleteIf not the best, the only two comparable are Grey's and Undercover Boss.
ReplyDeleteBlacklist looks like it performed similar to House.
Top 5 Total Viewers
ReplyDeleteNCIS (R)
Superbowl XLIX
The Simpsons (R)
Funniest Home Videos (R)
Is that correct that a repeat show beat the Superbowl in viewers?
Of course not, STV doesn't have the viewers for now so they are using a random order as usual.
ReplyDeleteI thought TBL would come close to Greys record
ReplyDeleteAll they need to be successful is to have everyone watching on Monday show up on Thursday. If all this did was make sure all fans knew it was back, then it is a success
ReplyDeleteAre you sarcastic?
ReplyDeleteIt's not a random order. They just auto list the 8 PM shows as the top 5 shows in viewership and demo until they get the actual demo/viewership list for the day.
ReplyDeleteI hope The Blacklist does well on Thursday..
ReplyDeleteIt will likely do around Monday's lowest numbers or slightly below that.
ReplyDeleteNo, I wasn't speaking on Thursday's premiere night. For premiere night, I can see mid 3's happening.
ReplyDeleteThe lowest numbers on Monday or slightly below that is what The Blacklist will eventually settle in. So, 2.0-2.5.
Why do you think that?Because it's against Scandal?
ReplyDeleteMore likely around 2.5. I think it will settle in the low 2s. But I agree, this week it might do pretty good.
ReplyDeleteHave any shows the past decade or so really seen benefits? I feel like Grey's was the last major post-Superbowl event that really surged going forward.
ReplyDeleteThe episode was pretty expository tho, some new viewers should return at least for the conclusion of last night's episode.
ReplyDeleteI think this Thursday it might do well because it is the conclusion to the two-parter, but after that ratings will probably get back to normal.
ReplyDeleteThis is the most likely case-scenario.
ReplyDeleteAwesome for The Blacklist.
ReplyDeleteThe Blacklist - 17.00 Demo/ 30.00 million Viewers
ReplyDeleteSo, I was just a little too high on my prediction for the Blacklist.
ReplyDeleteYou're lying right? The Voice got a 16.something
ReplyDeleteIt did a 11.2 in the demo
ReplyDelete18-49 Demo?
ReplyDeleteYes, in 18-49.
ReplyDeleteThe Blacklist did a 11.2 in demo with 31 million
ReplyDeleteIn 18-34, it did a 10.2
ReplyDeleteThey dont include west coast airing
ReplyDeleteWow blacklist!
ReplyDeleteAnd lol at the repeat number for ncis got beat by Brooklyn nine nine
The Blacklist did quite well, and those numers may be even higher (last year NG pulled a 7.8 at this time and then adjusted up to 11.4)
ReplyDeleteNow the real test is Thursdays: TBL vs Scandal will be interesting!
What I think omabin means is that The Blacklist might not adjust up all that much come finals
ReplyDelete102M viewers. Man, lol.
ReplyDeleteGreat ending to a fantastic game.
Excellent fot The Blacklist!
ReplyDeleteIt will adjusted up.
ReplyDeleteEspecially if it starts early and starts strong. They'll want to keep the momentum. If it's mid-season, they could promote the crap out of it and air the premiere behind the SB.
ReplyDeleteI meant to imply that the blacklist will probably go up even more. This is already a good result but should be even higher. Sorry, i get lazy when typing on the phone
ReplyDeleteWow, just wow.
ReplyDeleteAnd that doesn't even include the best coast.
I think so too. Last year New Girl got up from a 7.8 to a 11.4. Should the same increase happen this time, The Blacklist would score a 14.8!!!
ReplyDeleteI would even consider it premiering it out of the Superbowl; that would give it a massive following from the start
ReplyDeleteShould it increase like New Girl last year, we are looking at a 14.8
ReplyDeleteI was confusing, sorry!
ReplyDeleteEven the loyal viewers of NCIS can't resist Superbowl. That's something!
ReplyDeleteThat's all fine and dandy, but how did the Superbowl do in comparison to the World Cup?
ReplyDeleteThe post-game did a 26.1
ReplyDeleteThe Blacklist's numbers: 11.2
ReplyDeleteNew Girl last year
ReplyDelete11.4 in demo w/ 27 million
Good enough to be the 4th best of the last ten years.
ReplyDeleteIs the 11.2 already counting with the numbers outside prime-time?
ReplyDeleteAlso my prediction. Though by normal i mean in the 1.8-2.3 range, not the monday levels
ReplyDeleteIf previous history is to be believed, not many
ReplyDeleteWow The Blacklist!!
ReplyDeleteoh. okay
ReplyDeleteWhoa the blacklist! Well done!
ReplyDeleteNCIS was a repeat.
ReplyDeletei never seen them adjust down
ReplyDeleteIf Supergirl shows up during next season and not mid-season, I'd really consider putting an episode after SB if I were CBS. That would be a smart idea for a freshman series.
ReplyDeleteNo, because it's unlikely to benefit from Super Bowl long term.
ReplyDeleteSo around a 2.7? I think this week it should crack a 3.0 due to the 'To Be Continued' from last night.
ReplyDeleteHow many of those extra million viewers will stay for this week episode?.
ReplyDeleteThat looks promising for The Blacklist but I highly doubt that any of the news viewers will be returning on Thursdays. The show is quite serialized and the fulcrum and the fire would not be really understandable to the new viewers.
ReplyDeleteThose numbers appear to be very high for the blacklist. New girl had major adjustments last year for instance and it started earlier.
ReplyDeleteI love the Super Bowl. The game, the commercials, halftime, ratings. Super Bowl Sunday is like Christmas for me.
ReplyDeleteCBS carries the SB next year and I'm already wondering what show they'll air behind it.
You could argue that Undercover Boss was the last scripted show to get a boost from Super Bowl.
ReplyDeleteOn the unscripted side, The Voice has also benefitted greatly from it.
Fantastic and itll adjust up more later today
ReplyDeleteI agree. I haven't seen any of season 2, and I was able to follow the episode.
ReplyDeleteIt would be the biggest since The Voice. And if we are talking only scripted shows, maybe it will be the highest since Grey's Anatomy
ReplyDeleteI remember new girl having a big adjustment but i didnt remember it being so big, that is crazy then. I am not shre if the ame dynamics are at playbhere, especially since new girl was on for 30 minutes and blacklist for 60 but still!
ReplyDeleteThe Blacklist may end being the biggest scripted show following the SB since Grey's Anatomy.
ReplyDeleteI think he was guessing.
ReplyDeleteReally good for The Blacklist. Though I am not making any guesses for Thursday's rating.
ReplyDeleteAnd New Girl went right back to its normal low ratings the following episode. Here's hoping The Blacklist does better than New Girl this week..
ReplyDeleteYeah. But even in a repeat, it's pulling 10.0+ for total viewers.
ReplyDeletegreat for TBL s3 can still come! 2x09 was 2.6 share right? So it lowed since 2x09 right? But it says it's the most watched after Super Bowl program so yay s3 please comeeeee
ReplyDeleteI don't know if you noticed, but NCIS does not usually air repeats against the Superbowl. I'm as loyal as they come watching NCIS and generally choose to watch the rerun against regular programming. Even I watched The Superbowl, which most definitely is not regular programming.
ReplyDeleteIt's not even close to being most watched post-SuperBowl program. NBC release is confusing most watched in three years (meaning most watched over CBS - Elementary (delayed to 1115) FOX (NG/B99) post-game series).
ReplyDeleteabout 12.0 and 30 million viewers
ReplyDelete30 million Americans don't like the superbowl lol
ReplyDeleteand for all the Seahawks fans throwing their TVs out. I was mad but not that mad, my neighbour however...
ReplyDeleteI really want BL to do well on thursdays. I usually have NOTHING to watch these days. Originals on monday, Flash/SPN on tuesday, Arrow on wed, BL on thursday and Constantine on friday would be PERFECT
ReplyDeleteThe Blacklist was going to get renewed regardless of what it got after the SB. It was the highest rated scripted show on NBC during Fall.
ReplyDeleteBeen watching for almost two decades and that was one of the best SBs I've ever seen. And I'm not a fan of either team.
ReplyDeletebut it didn't get renewed yet. Hope it will!!!
ReplyDeleteI want a damn s3 hope it can come
ReplyDeleteIt will happen. The Blacklist already has a $2 million syndication deal or something like it. It will get renewed.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. Not a fan of either team myself too, but I was happy to see Patriots still beat Seahawks, lol.
ReplyDeleteHas that ever happened before? Airing a pilot episode after the SB?
ReplyDeleteUndercover boss and American Dad if memory serves
ReplyDeletecan the syndication garantee s4 too? I need to know.
ReplyDeleteYes.
ReplyDeleteyay. I hope Elementary is the same s4 & s5 garanteed. I need Joanlock canon I beg for it
ReplyDelete
