It was no contest with the CBS drama combination of “NCIS” (#1 for the night: 11.0 rating/17 share), spin-off “NCIS: New Orleans” (8.8/13) and “Person of “Interest” (5.8/10) holding a wide advantage in the Tuesday household overnights in each of the six half-hours. But, mirroring all season, “Person of Interest” continues to lose a large chunk of the “NCIS: New Orleans” lead-in (33 percent from the 9:30 p.m. portion last night – 8.6/13). And results in adults 18-49 and all the key demographics could be neck-and-neck in the 10 p.m. hour between “Person of Interest” and competing “Chicago Fire” on NBC (#2: 4.1/ 7), which built from hiatus-bound lead-in “About a Boy” (#4: series low 1.6/ 2 at 9:30 p.m.) by 156 percent.
As the networks begin to map out their primetime line-ups for 2015-16, CBS should consider another drama option for the Tuesday 10 p.m. hour. It could do better here.
Opposite “Person of Interest” and “Chicago Fire” was ABC 10 p.m. special “Countdown to the Oscars: 15 Movies That Changed American Cinema,” which was complete bust at a distant third-place 2.0/ 3 in the overnights.
In series-premiere news, ABC comical reality series “Repeat After Me,” hosted by “The Goldbergs” star Wendi McLendon-Covey, was a huge disappointment at a third-place 2.8/ 4 in the overnights at 8:30 p.m. Comparably, this was 12 percent below the debut of failed time period sitcom occupant “Manhattan Love Story” on 9/30/14 (3.2/ 5). And it slipped by 32 percent from recently introduced lead-in “Fresh Off the Boat” (#2: 4.1/ 6 at 8 p.m.), which was just nine percent below the 4.5/ 7 in the overnights for its 8 p.m. airing last week. A second episode of “Fresh Off the Boat” scored a 4.1/ 6 at 8:30 p.m. one week earlier, which was 46 percent above “Repeat After Me.” Three weeks (and five episodes) in and “Fresh Off the Boat” remains promising for ABC.
Leading out of “Repeat After Me” on ABC was time period filler “Marvel’s Agent Carter” at a series-low 2.4/ 4 from 9-10 p.m. (distant #2), which was 14 percent below the 2.8/ 4 one week earlier.
Elsewhere, freshman drama “The Flash” on The CW remains the real deal at a 2.7/ 4 at 8 p.m., which was equal to one week earlier. But overnight erosion for lead-out “Supernatural” (#4: 1.6/ 2 at 9 p.m.) was still significant at 41 percent (despite increasing by 14 percent week to week). Fox was at typical overnight levels care of “MasterChef Junior” (#3: 3.5/ 5 from 8-9 p.m.), “New Girl” (#3: 2.1/ 3) and “The Mindy Project” (#3: 1.7/ 3), which for the sitcoms is not a good thing. And hiatus-bound freshman NBC comedy “Marry Me” sunk to a series-low (and last-place) 1.4/ 2 in the 9 p.m. half-hour, which means divorce TV style inevitable. Earlier in the evening were two more episodes of “Parks and Recreation” at a 2.0/ 3 at 8 p.m. (#4) and a 1.6/ 2 at 8:30 p.m., which finished last in each of the half-hours.
As a reminder, NBC sitcom “Undateable” will begin its second season on Tuesday, March 17 at 9 p.m. ET following “The Voice” and into new comedy “One Big Happy” at 9:30 p.m. ET from writer Liz Feldman and executive producer Ellen DeGeneres. Each day (except Sunday) during the main TV Season we post the TV Ratings for the previous nights primetime shows for the major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, CW, FOX, NBC). Cable Network ratings will be added to the Ratings Database.
The first item that gets posted (normally around 2pm GMT) is the early overnight analysis based on the early household numbers (these are not the same as the Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers that are posted later).
Next, if available, we will post the Top 25 Market 18-49 Ratings to give you a rough idea of the ratings to following.
Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above (We also where possible now post the 18-34 and 25-54 Demo Numbers).
Finally, later in the evening (10pm-11pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the Ratings Database. The Final Adjusted numbers are what we use for all our Renew/Cancellation Tables, Full Season Tables, Ratings Scorecards etc (see below). Friday's Final Adjusted Ratings are normally available on the following Monday.

ReplyDeleteI don't think it's that unhealthy of a day IMO, I think it's just a combination of Marc not being able to judge all things properly and some winter filler lineups.
ReplyDelete- CBS is extremely healthy. Yes, they can improve at 10pm, but the first two hours are huge and even at 10pm, there are worse days.
- It is by far the CW's strongest day!
- NBC is in filler mode except for Chicago Fire, which is harmed by the filler airing before it. It's actual lineup is The Voice | Undateable | One Big Happy | Chicago Fire, so they are just burning through weeks to get there.
- FOX does ok here. They could do better but these are all extremely young skewing shows and Marc ignores that. Though New Girl has fallen a lot, it is still profitable and still does okay business. FOX should worry about this night sometime in the near future but right now they have other pressing concerns, this is still a profitable combination for them.
- ABC yes it is their worse night. But I would still note that: 1)FOTB is doing pretty okay!, 2) Agent Carter is not the main occupant, Shield is, and that show does better.
Mindy has been brilliant these past few weeks!

ReplyDeleteVery good for FOTB!!! It's funnier than every Modern Family episode this season and some Goldbergs episodes (no shade....well maybe). I think that's a bad top 25 rating for NCIS the week before its biggest competition The Voice comes back next week. I'm expecting NCIS, NCIS NO, FOX comedies, Masterchef and ABC to fall quite big next week.

Of course its a natural fit after NCIS but its had pretty much zero competition all season .... and even then its demo numbers aren't fantastic considering audience size. I'd like to see how a show like Scorpion would do in its place. Maybe smaller viewership but I'm sure higher demo.

ReplyDeleteWhat was I saying is that ABC could shorten Beyond the Tank (especially if they didn't have the time to produce a full one hour show) and then, once FOTB ended, they could extend it to a full hour (assuming by that point, production could already do a full hour)

ReplyDeleteI got the impression that ABC has better plans for Beyond the Tank than just use it to plug a hole in late spring like that. I don't have a way to substantiate this but it's the feeling I have from whenever ABC talks about it. I think it will anchor a night in the summer.

I don't disagree but if their goal was to support Shield, which yes I think they should be doing, they would have launched Beyond the Tank or The Whispers on the night in March and aired FOTB in double episodes during the winter with Carter. I don't see any indication for their priorities to have changed now.

ReplyDeleteBut that's not what Agent Carter is doing. The men in the show are portrayed as pretty smart, they just have a blind spot when it comes to woman. And everytime a character dies, they ensure that the audience cares and feels for the character, even if it is a sexist cheating bastard with questionable morals.

I've seen every one of ABC's current comedies except Last Man Standing, and my least favorite are Modern Family and Blackish (dropped both). I think most of the cast is overrated, Ty Burell was the only reason I kept watching.

ReplyDeleteI love this site but this is the thing I dislike the most about it. Too many drama queens and people trying to force their opinions. The Flash is my favorite comic tv show but if others disagree I don't care. To each their own.

ReplyDeleteIt would be nice to see some different winners at the Emmy's in the comedy department this year. Hopefully Eden Sher (The Middle) will finally be nominated an Emmy (which she deserves).
ReplyDeleteHm, I don't think so at all. That is the first time I am hearing that, not even as a rumor. And if that was the case, I am sure FOX would be promoting it as a final season.
ReplyDeleteIt also has much more competition. Tuesdays at 9pm, especially in the winter, has been an easy hour. NO goes up against mid 1s Carter, low 1s FOX comedies and sub 1s NBC comedies. On Monday, Scorpion goes up against mid 2s from The Bachelor, high 1s from The Apprentice and mid 1s from Sleepy Hollow.

ReplyDeleteI just can't get into Arrow, but I can tell its made well.
I certainly think Scorpion would consistently hit a 2.4/2.5. It held up pretty well against tough competition earlier in the season and when it had The Millers as a lead in, and is pretty consistent right now altho I'm sure it will drop a bit next week with the return of The Voice

So no chance of agent Carter or agent of shield be canceled.
Though it is true that SPN is wasting that lead-in. It great that CW decided to move it ands use that lead-in on a new show.

ReplyDeleteI think pretty much all shows (unless mini-series/anthologies) have an initial six season contract, even if the shows get cancelled before that.

ReplyDeleteI was surprised by Robbie Amell, since i wasn't much of a fan of his work in the flashback episode he first appeared.
I was a bit worried with the poor quality of the last Winter episode. So if they really ran out of storylines, I would prefer it to end this season. If they have more story to tell, I would like another season. But one way or the other, the most important thing is that they know in time.
ReplyDeleteTrue that about Modern having one of the best casts. You should try FOTB though, the mom is TOO funny and is already showing that she's Emmy worthy.
ReplyDeleteExactly. CW didn't put SPN there thinking that it would suddenly gain a ton of the Flash's viewers. They just wanted to have a decent ratings night and placed them together for the time being. Flash's viewers aren't going to suddenly pop in and watch a ten year old serialized show, causing SPN's ratings to increase. That makes no sense and no one would expect that. Now CW has a new show available that they are putting there to try to hold on to those viewers.
ReplyDeleteI bet though, that if it were JtV (have nothing against the show) behind Flash and getting SPNs ratings, he wouldn't mention retention and instead say how amazing it's doing and how it's the third highest show on the CW.
Originally, I was annoyed that ABC pre-empted Forever once again, but with Agent Carter tanking this badly, I don't mind it not getting brought down along with it.
ReplyDeleteExactly, that's my point. For what it's worth, I adore those 4 shows, they are among my favorite so a relative ranking within them is not very telling ;)

ReplyDeleteYep, I agree with that. It would have been the best way to have another show succeed, since they basically knew Flash would no matter what.
ReplyDeleteThe thing is i think the last episodes of this season will really Deliver as they always do and they still have the potential with Natalie (Gina torres) joining the cast and Margaux trying to take down emily. Episode 16 is called Retaliation so my hope ans guess is that sth happens in episode "Bait"
