Ratings Breakdown:
ABC and CBS tied for first in the Monday overnights, each outdelivering No. 2 NBC by a hefty 41 percent. ABC’s “The Bachelor” opened with a dominant 6.2 rating/9 share in the household overnights from 8-10 p.m., which bested the season-finale of competing “Celebrity Apprentice” on NBC (4.5/ 7) by 38 percent. Comparably, “Celebrity Apprentice,” which Donald Trump announced was renewed for next season, perked up by 18 percent from its season-low 3.8/ 6 one week earlier. Too bad, though, that NBC seemed to rush through the season by airing two episodes each week. Note to Kenya Moore: it is time for your “15 minutes” to end.
SPOILER ALERT: If you do not want to know who won on “Celebrity Apprentice” stop reading now. But congratulations to Leeza Gibbons, who was well above competing Geraldo Rivera. In the specials department was two-hour “Stevie Wonder: Songs in the Key of Life – An All-Star Grammy Salute” on CBS at a very respectable 5.7/ 9 in the overnights from 9-11 p.m. Comparably, the celebrity packed extravaganza only fluctuated by two-tenths of a house rating point in the four half-hours. And it was right on par with the lead-in support from sitcoms “2 Broke Girls” (#2: 5.8/ 9) and “Mike & Molly” (#2: 6.0/ 9) from 8-9 p.m.
In what has to be series-finale news, freshman NBC drama “State of Affairs” concluded with a mere 3.3/ 6 from 10-11 p.m., which trailed competing “Castle” on ABC (5.1/ 8) and the second hour of the Stevie Wonder special on CBS (5.8/10) by 35 percent and 43 percent, respectively. Next week, NBC medical drama “The Night Shift” opens season two in the Monday 10 p.m. hour out of the two-hour return of singing competition “The Voice.”
Elsewhere, Fox’s demo friendly “Gotham” kicked-off with a 4.3/ 6 from 8-9 p.m. (#4), leading into a typically diluted 2.7/ 4 for sophomore “Sleepy Hollow” at 9 p.m., which is on the fence for a third-season renewal. And creatively worthy “Jane the Virgin” on The CW scored a 1.1/ 2 at 9 p.m., which was up by one-tenth of a rating point (or 10 percent) from the 1.0/ 2 from one week earlier. Comparably, ‘Jane the Virgin” built by 57 percent from the 0.7/ 1 for year-ago occupant “Beauty and the Beast.” Earlier in the evening on The CW was sophomore “The Originals” at a typical 1.2/ 2 from 8-9 p.m. (#5).

Castle is up by 0.2 from the HH of a week-ago.
ReplyDeleteLet's see how that translates into the final ratings.
I would have been watching Castle, if the stupid ice storm hadn't knocked out my electricity. Wonder how many other people couldn't watch TV due to the weather.
ReplyDeleteCastle had a 4.9 (1.6 and 7.46 mill) overnight last week and a 5.1 this week, so it rose verses last week which is good. I'm guessing a 1.7 and just under 8 million viewers. But I'm hoping for a 1.8 and over the 8 million mark.
ReplyDeleteGood to see the show is steady this season.
Really? That is good.Do you know how The Bachelor changed from last week?
ReplyDeleteJTV is either keeping 0.6 or even going to 0.7.Great for it.
ReplyDeleteEven, it seems.
ReplyDeleteGlad TO didn't dip. Hoping for the ratings to raise to 0,6 at least.
ReplyDeleteThanks Andrew for fast reply.
ReplyDeleteAlways ;)
ReplyDeleteI agree. Haven't watched last night's yet but last week's was one of my favorite episodes of the season, it deserves to rise.
ReplyDeletethey had the same HH last week and it got 0.5
ReplyDeleteUm,didnt it got 0.6 last week?
ReplyDeleteNo.
ReplyDeleteThat sucks :/ if i wanted to watch a show and the electricity went out i Would be very unhappy
ReplyDeleteI have to ask: Why is ABC relegating The Bachelor to serve as winter filler for DWTS?
ReplyDeletenope 0.5 but having said that it also got the same HH 2 weeks ago and got 0.7 then so we shall see
ReplyDeleteBy this site it had 0.56 rounded to 0.6.Looks like they made mistake.Thanks. http://tvseriesfinale.com/tv-show/jane-the-virgin-season-one-ratings-34349/
ReplyDeleteoh i read it TO not JTV sorry but JTV is actually up in HH from last week
ReplyDeletei think me and and andrew both read TO instead of JTV, Jane got 0.6
ReplyDeleteYup, exactly what amber said. I read TO instead of JTV, sorry. lol
ReplyDeleteMay I ask, what abc has been promoting?
ReplyDeleteBecause young skewing The Bachelor would be hurt by The Voice much more than old skewing DWTS is.
ReplyDeleteState of Cancellation.
ReplyDeleteSorry, I had to.
Which 0.56 last week I doubt it will jump to 0.7, but at least seems like its growing little by little.
ReplyDeleteI have seen they ve been promoting American Crime.IDK for others.
ReplyDeleteIt's not steady at all. It has been dipping quite a bit.
ReplyDeleteHow so?
ReplyDeleteI imagined it had something to do with that.
ReplyDeleteBut hasn't ABC already aired The Bachelor (even if its finale) against the Voice? I was under that impression.
It did.
ReplyDeleteJTV didn't. It got a 0.6
ReplyDelete0.5 was The Originals
ReplyDeleteMy guess is it´ll be the same or 1.7 at better (I believe those watching the episode were the same from last week - NCIS:LA viewers were probably watching Stevie Wonder):)
ReplyDeleteYes, that's what I'm saying. JtV got a 0.6.
ReplyDeleteThe Bachelor airs in between cycles of DWTS.
ReplyDeleteLast night was great as well. The pace was certainly slower but it was a really emotional episode. It set up a great stories for the rest of the season.
ReplyDeleteThe show needs to get steady again.
Duke Energy got it back on just before the final scene. I finally got to see the entire episode at about 4 am over the internet. I've seen it 3 times now. The acting by Nathan, Stana, Michael and Annie was exceptional. The music by Robert Duncan had a "Terminator" feel to it, or was I the only one who heard that theme when Beckett's arm shot up?
ReplyDeleteI've seen a whole bunch for American Crime.
ReplyDeleteHuh, Jane The Virgin actually seems to be building an audience after its golden globe win. I wonder if it'll hit a .7 by the season final?
ReplyDeleteAnd American Crime looks promising from the promos, at least.
ReplyDeleteFillion killed it last night. Best episode of the season by far.
ReplyDeleteTwo weeks ago the overnight was 5.0, and it translated to 7.45. Last weeks 4.9 translatedvto a 7.4, so at best the 5.1 will be below a 7.6. Demo wise 1.5 to 1.6 since last week was a 1.6 due to rounding...
ReplyDeleteI hope so. But, the show is getting better week after week, so maybe it's because of that too.
ReplyDeleteAnd i guess TGIT, OUAT, Wednesday comedies and AoS also but no revenge
ReplyDeleteI think the voice may be part of the reason why they don't feel it's worth the risk but I think logistically it is also quite complicated to pull it off. If they put The Bachelor in the fall next year, they would have back to back seasons of the franchise (since the bachelorette airs in the summer) hence risking overexposure, on top of a move to a tougher timeslot. Since they have the two franchises always airing (DWTS | Bachelor | DWTS | Bachelorette) there is no option to change the order that doesn't involve back to back seasons of one of them, which is always bad.
ReplyDeleteIn addition, I suspect they believe The Bachelor would be satured with two seasons a year, or else they would have probably replaced the lower rated bachelorette with another edition of the bachelor. So you would either have to do Bachelor | DWTS | Bachelor | DWTS and run that very high risk of saturation or do Bachelor | DWTS | Bahelorette | DWTS but then endure significantly lower ratings from Bachelorette in the Spring.
A couple of years ago, when DWTS looked really bad and the bachelor was beginning its resurgence, I thought there was enough for the move to be worth the risk in some way. But since then DWTS has recovered enough for that not to be the case anymore. You could argue there would be some gains to be made, maybe, but I wouldn't expect anything too substantial since this arrangement is working quite well, and there is a lot of risk involved. So it is a high risk, low return move IMO.
The ratings are fine for Castle to be renewed.
ReplyDeleteI completely forgot about Bachelorette airing in the summer.
ReplyDeleteThen, my idea just bite the dust. Not that it had any form of sustenance in itself to begin either.
I never said it won't be getting renewed, I just said that it hasn't been steady.
ReplyDeleteThe pilot as pretty mediocre and there was a lot of shouting. But at least it will get a decent sampling with Scandal as lead-in.
ReplyDeleteI was speaking purely on its quality.
ReplyDeleteIt may get well sampled because of Scandal but I don't think it will do all that good.
S&L probably had more chances of succeeding after Scandal than AC but we will see.
I think being after Scandal, people will expect it has some shock-value, but I didn't see that at all in the pilot.
ReplyDeleteAnd I never implied that you said it wouldn't, but someone needs to say that the ratings are fine, and since no one does, I'll be the one to say it. There are people out there who understand "dipping" as "the show will be cancelled". I just wanted to make it clear.
ReplyDeleteI thought the official trailer was boring. Did you watch Secrets&Lies aswell?
ReplyDeleteI think that it being after Scandal, people will think it's some fast-paced drama with lots of twists and turns
ReplyDeleteI don't think either drama will be that but S&L looks more in line with Scandal's audience than AC's.
Hmm okay. I will not be watching any of the two bur Secrets&Lies will be revenge's lead-in and we have seen with a good lead-in it can hit a 1.5 but i do not See that happening anyway
ReplyDeleteI think American crime will premiere big and then Fall hard whereas S&L will premiere low and will stay low
ReplyDeleteI think it will get low 2s for the premiere and will dip from then onwards.
ReplyDeleteI think so too! what is your guess for OUAT and Revenge?
ReplyDeleteS&L is not that fast paced either.
ReplyDeleteWell it is that kind of show where i think it will be stretched too long
ReplyDeleteAnd that's why I said: " I don't either drama will be that".
ReplyDeleteABC probably has the problem fixed with next year's new Shonda show (if Murder doesn't suffer a sophomore slump) but still.
That's exactly the type of show Revenge was.
ReplyDeleteStretched too long.
I sadly havw to agree. I think it would have done way better as a limited series
ReplyDeleteI think it'd have done better as an anthology.
ReplyDeleteEach season, a new revenge.
Oh, missed read that.
ReplyDeleteI don't know about that... i for one still enjoy the show. Many don't anymore which i understand but i Would have been happy if it had received q final fifth season which will not happen though
ReplyDeleteI agree with that, but Anthology are better done as limited season (10 to 15 episodes) than a full 22 episode season.
ReplyDeleteHigh 2s to low 3s for OUAT. No idea about Revenge, prolly 1.4.
ReplyDeleteI don't think 10 or 15 episodes would've been enough for Revenge's first season, if Emily was to extract revenge by the end of that season.
ReplyDeleteBut any other outcome, would have been better than what ultimately happened.
Woah ypu are going very high, my guess is OUAT: 2.4
ReplyDeleteRevenge: 1.0
Hopefully season 8, if it happens, will be the last one. I like Castle a lot, but eight seasons should be good enough without ruining it. I'd say seven seasons, but I'm selfish and have a small amount of faith in the writers (or a few of them at least).
ReplyDeleteIf that happened i Would be so happy!
ReplyDeleteTo be honest, I've dropped Revenge entirely. I thought of doing it when the David Clarke twist was revealed (it basically nullifies the entire premise of the show) but I decided to give it a shot.
ReplyDeleteAnd I regret that now.
When did you drop it?
ReplyDeleteAround episode seven or eight.
ReplyDeleteI personally would have written the whole david Clarke story differently but i still enjoy it
ReplyDeleteHmm okay. IMO it got better after with a lot of Action but i guess not everyone likes :D
ReplyDeleteI absolutely loved Revenge's first season but it has been downhill ever since.
ReplyDeleteAnd? It's been that way for many many years now... Has nothing to do with relegating it to filler... And question could be posed in the reverse, DWTS filler for Bachelor... They are cycles they aren't going to sit one season of the bachelor followed by a season of the bachelorette back to back just like they won't do that for DWTS... Also it takes longer to film the Bachelor
ReplyDeleteIt appears Gotham has stopped bleeding. Hopefully...
ReplyDeleteSo the Originals and JtV can be head to head today?.
ReplyDeleteThe bachelor: 2.4/2.6
ReplyDeleteCastle: 1.6
2GB: 2.2
ReplyDeleteM&M: 2.2
Stevie Wonder's tribute: 1.4/1.4
Gotham: 2.1
ReplyDeleteSH: 1.4
CA: 1.6/1.6
ReplyDeleteSOfA: 1.0
TO: 0.6
ReplyDeleteJTV: 0.6
Winners: The Bachelor, 2 Broke Girls, Mike an Molly, Gotham
ReplyDeleteHonorable Mention: Jane the Virgin, The Originals
Losers: Sleepy Hollow, State of Affairs
Very nice rebound for Gotham!!
ReplyDeleteTables now posted
ReplyDeleteVery glad for its rebound!
ReplyDeleteIndeed. FOX must have breathed a sigh of relief.
ReplyDeleteFOX and me both ;)
ReplyDeleteSorry, don't like Gotham. Tried watching the pilot (twice) and couldn't get into it ;)
ReplyDeleteDo you have Castle half hours?
ReplyDeleteIt's still not there there where I wanted it to be but it has been growing on me. It's not one of my favorites, but I enjoy it for what it is, even if I wish it would be something else. But I think it's been getting better and I remain hopeful with all the potential there is there.
ReplyDelete1.7/1.6
ReplyDeleteWhy did you beat me to it?
ReplyDeleteThat's not cool! :P
Weird at the huge dropoff for CA. It went from high 1s to 1.4 and ended with 1.6. Nice to see Gotham and Sleepy Hollow improve. Everything else same old same old.
ReplyDeleteOK, thanx. Not much of a drop.
ReplyDeleteYou've taught me your source eheh
ReplyDeleteI fully regret this.
ReplyDeleteI know I shouldn't have! ;)
Sleepy Hollow really overlaps with Scorpion.
ReplyDeletethen bye Sleepy :( I WANTED S3 so bad. Hope OUAT won't fall like Sleepy did. So scared...... I'll die without S5 & S6. I need a end to the awesome series. RIP Sleepy... :(
ReplyDeletehow is a 0.6 for the originals an honourable mention? i get jtv since thats growth over the season but for TO thats just not a good ratings mark, not matter on what channel you are with the build in audience and fan base it came with
ReplyDelete1.4 is not bad for SH.
ReplyDeleteCalm down, both will be renewed ;)
ReplyDeleteProbably because it's ratings increased from last week
ReplyDeleteI think showbuzz might have some errors in the data. The viewers do not match the overnights.
ReplyDelete1.7/1.6
ReplyDeleteI guess people just didn't care about Scarecrow...?
ReplyDelete0.6 in the lead-off role is pretty fine for the CW; also, it grew from last week. Whenever you use the expression "no matter o what channel you are" when analyzing ratings, you will probably be wrong though. Relative ratings are pretty much all that matters.
ReplyDeleteHow so?
ReplyDeleteDo you have some examples?
ReplyDeleteIt's weird, I don't exactly know how to explain it. On the other hand, some things got pretty obvious from last night such as the overlap between SH and Scorpion as well as The Bachelor and CA.
ReplyDeleteSo pleased Gotham and Sleepy Hollow are up from last week.
ReplyDeleteYay! So happy to see Sleepy bounce back a couple of the the this week! Really good show, finally jumping the plot forwArd, so here's hoping it gets another bounce for the finale! (Although ... Crap. Does The Voice premiere next week?)
ReplyDeleteYes, Voice premiere next week!
ReplyDeleteNOT that sure till I don't see it. Thanks you are doing like I asked please don't lose your patience till May 13th. I need you close to me. I ly. xx Bare me till then.
ReplyDeleteSo, there's a legitimate chance SH goes down for the finale.
ReplyDeleteFOX has bigger fishes to fry.
ReplyDeleteYep CA started with 2s too. Weird ratings.
ReplyDeleteDamn. That's a bummer. Really really want another season to see where the "course correction" goes.
ReplyDeleteThe overnights for Castle of 5.0 have been translating to 7.4 million, and now a 5.1 gets you 8.4 when The Stevie Wonder does a 5.8...
ReplyDeletehey check your twitter dm. I thank you you supporting me like I asked. Don't lose your patience bare me till May 13th. Ly hug.
ReplyDeleteThe HH overnights aren't very good indicators of anything.
ReplyDeleteIgnore the HH ratings once the early ratings come out.
ReplyDeleteThe heavily promoted introduction of the Joker obviously worked for Gotham. Now the question is whether the bleeding has stopped for the long haul.
ReplyDeleteWeird, I just saw your messages, but I never got any notifications about them.
ReplyDeleteNot Bad for Jane & TO.Deccent for 2Broke Girls
ReplyDeleteFun Fact: After last week's Gotham episode 1.14 matched the 1.8 of AOS' 1.14, this week's Gotham 1.15 had the 2.1 which was what AOS 1.15 had.
ReplyDeleteYES! Sleepy Hollow! You keep going up! So glad it didn't get a 1.2 again, or lower. Need ratings to increase for the last 2 episodes to hope for renewal!
ReplyDeleteMarc Berman has the same viewers figure for Castle than showbuzzdaily.
ReplyDeleteUnless Marc's numbers comes from showbuzz, I'd say showbuzz is right.
Berman's overnights had Castle at 5.1 and Steve Wonder special at 5.8, so I'm guessing Berman must have been wrong in his early morning post since he is now matching showbuzzdaily
ReplyDeleteTrue.
ReplyDeleteLike I said, the HH aren't all that reliable.
ReplyDeleteI think Revenge could've been much more successful if it was a cable show, cause then it will would've had 13 episodes each season full of action, twists and turns,
ReplyDeleteCan't recall ever seeing a show fluctuate back and forth this much in its first season.
ReplyDeleteGotham last night was on point, every episode needs to be like this... Hope it maintains or goes up in coming weeks
ReplyDeleteExpected higher for Apprentice but oh well it was renewed... So happy for Leeza and Leeza's Care Connection
Good for Bachelor but I think Sunday's airing affected it since most people watched SNL, people were catching up yesterday... I guess this will be Castle's new normal, unless it goes up with DWTS but I doubt it
Ok for Originals
I think its gotten better after episode 7 and 8.

Or it could be people tuning because of the Joker promos. Next week's ratings will tell.

ReplyDeleteIs there a typo in the table for State of Affairs? Table has 1.1, but both half hours are 1.0? Wouldn't a 1.05 round to 1.1 in the half hours?
ReplyDeleteok np <3
ReplyDeleteyep. JtV and The Originas are head to head. The Original was doing good.
ReplyDeletehope for that.
ReplyDeleteWooohoooo! Gotham is back in the 2s and Sleepy is up to a 1.4! **happy dance**
ReplyDeleteHope Jane holds on to that 0.6 and nice to see The Originals back up from last week.
2.5 I hope for OUAT I would HATE TO DEATH if ratings would fall like Sleepy. Cry forever if I don't get s5 & s6. "Regina please take my heart out if that happens"
ReplyDeleteYahoooooo! Going in the right direction! Hopefully, that momentum keeps going into next week :-)
ReplyDeleteGotham, yes.
ReplyDeleteTeasing the joker helped gotham with the demo.
ReplyDeleteCastle will most likely be renewed for an eight season, if Nathan wants to do it again, it's his call. The head man at ABC said he'll give them one more season. The ratings are steady, but they're a little better than half of what they've been for the passed three seasons. The demo is down from 2 .2 + to 1.6, meaning they won't be able to bill the sponsors at a premium rate. That will affect the contract negotiations. What can they offer Nathan for one more season, will it be enough.
ReplyDeleteThank godddd for Sleepy Hollow! Let's see if next week can bring it higher. Prove me wrong!
ReplyDeletewhat about the final ratings???
