Today's Early Overnight Ratings

This table shows the early overnight ratings. These ratings are normally adjusted later in the day when all the ratings have been consolidated to take into account any local preemptions and/or overruns. You can find all the final adjusted numbers in our Ratings Database. (See the About section below for details about ratings)

-Percent Change from the Year-Ago Evening – Monday 2/10/14:

———-

Note: The following labels are based on the household overnights and are subject to change given the availability of other pending data streams. The overnights are your first look at what to potentially expect when the other results come in. And we always take into account other benchmarks including the expected demographic ratings, potential DVR usage, the critical acclaim (or lack of) and the social media presence. Keep in mind, as always, that results for any live sporting event are always approximate.

-Winners:
“The Bachelor” (ABC), “2 Broke Girls” (CBS), “Mike & Molly” (CBS), “Scorpion” (CBS), “NCIS: Los Angeles” (CBS)

-Losers (excluding repeats):
“Jane the Virgin” (CW), “State of Affairs” (NBC)

———-

Ratings Breakdown:
CBS topped this second Monday in February, besting No. 2 NBC in the household overnights by 16 percent with its combination of “2 Broke Girls” (#2: 5.9 rating/9 share at 8 p.m.), “Mike & Molly” (#2: 6.0/ 9 at 8:30 p.m.), freshman hit drama “Scorpion” (#1: 7.6/12 at 9 p.m.) and successfully relocated “NCIS: Los Angeles” (#1: 6.5/11 at 10 p.m.). Comparably, “NCIS: Los Angeles” beat competing “Castle” on ABC (#2: 4.9/ 8) and failing freshman “State of Affairs” on NBC (#3: 3.0/ 5) by 33 percent and 117 percent, respectively. And it was 33 percent above failed year-ago time period occupant “Intelligence” (4.9/ 8 on 2/10/14), which featured former “Lost” star Josh Holloway and former “CSI” star Marg Helgenberger.

In the 8-10 p.m. battle of ABC’s “The Bachelor” (6.2/ 9) versus NBC’s “Celebrity Apprentice” (3.8/ 6), “The Bachelor” held a significant 63 percent advantage. And “Celebrity Apprentice,” week-to-week, dipped by 28 percent in the household overnights. But keep in mind that the 8-9 p.m. telecast was a clip show. SPOILER ALERT: If you have not seen the 9 p.m. episode and don’t want to know what happened, skip the rest of this paragraph. But this viewer, who is a diehard fan of “Celebrity Apprentice,” does not believe for one second that Vivica A. Jones would simply step away like that and admit Leeza Gibbons is a better player.

Elsewhere, demo friendly “Gotham” on Fox scored a typical 4.2/ 6 (#3) in the household overnights from 8-9 p.m. And it led into a diluted 2.6/ 4 for sophomore “Sleepy Hollow” from 9-10 p.m., which is 50-50 on renewal for a third season. As a reminder, season three of Kevin Bacon drama “The Following” will return to the Monday 9 p.m. hour on Fox on March 2.

The CW, meanwhile, was equal to one week earlier with its already renewed pairing of “The Originals” (#5: 1.2/ 2) and “Jane the Virgin” (#5: 1.0/ 2), which remains the freshman network series most worthy of a larger audience. How about it folks?

  1. It's steady, we have to wait til top 25

    ReplyDelete
  2. Looks like SH hit a new low in HH

    ReplyDelete
  3. Vivica A. Jones? Is that a cross between Vivica A Fox and Star Jones?

    ReplyDelete
  4. So, The 100 has a slightly higher HH than Jane The Virgin but he states that The 100 "didn't earn its renewal stripes" I know it doesn't matter since both have been renewed, but this really irks me sometimes.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Looks good for Scorpion :)
I wish Marc would separate the actual HH rating information from his own opinions and biases and conversations he sometimes references that we couldn't possibly understand. It's not that hard to do, he has no problem separating his Winner/Loser category things from everything else.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Yikes at Celebrity Apprentice.Interesting that State of Affairs held pretty well with CA fall.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Castle needs to rise, it's current ratings are pretty bad.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Are these correct ratings for Celebrity Apprentice? This is a BIG fall

    ReplyDelete
  9. He averaged both hours, where the first hour was a clip-show.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Oh,thanks for reply.I was shocked with that rating lol.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Also people seem to forget The 100 is in its second season while this is Jane's first season. I have nothing against the show but Marc and some of the Jane fans have a double standard when it comes the CW shows.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I wasn't a fan of Grey's Anatomy and don't watch rom-coms so I don't know much about her. I was excited to see her in something other than Grey's and she's great in it. Damn shame her personal life is killing the show. Is she just a pain in the ass to work with or what?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Sleepy Hollow keeps dropping.I am not sure if FOX will renew it.It can only survive if they manage to turn it in classical 22 episodes procedural.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Couldn't have put it better myself! He's picking and choosing what to say to make shows look better or worse than they actually are. And people buy into it because he's still using facts, just not all of them. Is he really the only person that posts HH ratings this early?

    ReplyDelete
  15. I don't see why they couldn't do it this season, it stopped being serialised when the S1 storyline ended.

    ReplyDelete
  16. The Originals - 0.7
    Jane The Virgin - 0.5
    _________________
    Gotham - 2.0
    Sleepy Hollow - 1.3

    State of Affairs - 1.0
    _________________
    2 Broke Girls - 2.3
    M&M - 2.1
    Scorpion - 2.5
    NCIS: Los Angeles - 1.9

    Castle - 1.4

  17. I would lower Scorpion to 2.3 and NCIS LA to 1.7-1.8.But agree with the rest.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I haven't read watched the synopsis yet because last night's episode is on my DVR. I have to say that that is beyond disappointing. Sounds like they aren't expecting a third season.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Here is the synopsis if you want it: http://www.spoilertv.com/2015/02/sleepy-hollow-episode-218-tempus-fugit.html

    ReplyDelete
  20. Thanks. I'll definitely read that once I watch the most recent episode.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I agree. But I don't mind anymore now. At least he is placing the virgin under the loosers category too so he doesn't have a double standard anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Sleepy Hollow is certain to be renewed. It has a stronger season average than Bones, New Girl, The Mindy Project, Backstrom, Mulaney, Glee, Gracepoint, and Red Band Society.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Of course it will when its behind their 2nd drama.

    ReplyDelete
  24. These ratings all seem pretty standard. be interested to see how The Following does compared to SH. Thought Scorpion might drop because its been on a 3 week break but a 7.6 is decent. wait until 18-49 tho.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Well, he should stop with the whole ''Jane'' thing, but I kinda agree, it deserves an larger audience.

    ReplyDelete
  26. And it's going into yet another break next week. Seriously, what the hell.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Castle has a 5.0 in the overnights last week and a 4.9 this week so at least it was stable enough verses last week. And a 1.4 in the demo, so Im guessing a 1.4 this week and around the 7.50 million mark.
Castle's ratings have declined this year but is in no danger of cancellation. And a show in its seventh season which was predicted to be canceled in its first season to be getting these numbers is spectacular. The show will be renewed for an eighth season, and possibly final season and I'd be perfectly fine with that.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Castle's fine. It makes big gains in L3 and L7 and does really well in syndication. Assuming Fillion wants to keep doing it, it's likely a 10-year show.

    ReplyDelete
  29. It has only 6 episodes left and there are 14 weeks left in this TV season. NCIS: NO has 23 episodes for this season, so CBS should have ordered extra episodes for Scorpion too.

    ReplyDelete
  30. It will get a final season but a 1.4 show is not really that good - there are older shows doing way better

    ReplyDelete
  31. I can't imagine Scorpion having anything less than 24 episodes this season and I wouldn't be surprised if it is 25. Do you have a way of confirming that by the way?

    ReplyDelete
  32. I think next season should be the last. I pretty much lost interest after Bracken was arrested and the Castle mythology is kinda boring. And seeing the ratings drop, others didn't like it much either.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Looks like TO and Jane the Virgin are a lot more successful than some people think. I suspect that rumors get started about shows doing badly because someone or maybe a group of people are unhappy with something on the show. I'm glad that TO writers and producers are doing what they want and standing up to haters and spiteful shippers. My attention is usually divided when Jane the Virgin comes on, but as far as I can tell it's a great show with standard week-to-week stories rather than arc-to-arc, which is refreshing. I don't think JtV is what anyone expected.

    ReplyDelete
  34. They haven't finished filming yet though have they? Elyes Gabel put up a BTS photo the other day, it could have been an old one though idk.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Well, CBS Productions site has the number of episodes listed as 22 for season 1. They updated NCIS: NO to 23 recently so I think they would do the same for Scorpion if they ordered more episodes.

    ReplyDelete
  36. It will sound like an excuse already but The Following will have a considerable tougher placement on the calendar than Sleepy Hollow. Most factors are against it.
    - Lead-in : Gotham is exhausting its originals pretty quick so the show will certainly be forced to air out of Gotham encores very often while Sleepy Hollow only did it once the entire season
    - Viewing levels : Sleepy Hollow aired during the always high rated fall and the high rated winter months (particularly January) while the following will air its order practically entirely in the spring, where viewing levels are much lower especially once DST hit
    - Competition : While Sleepy Hollow had very tough competition during the fall, it also had two whole months sans the voice (in the middle of which it also got some Scorpion repeats). The Following will face the voice the entire time it is on the air. The only positive is that it will probably have more scorpion repeats to face than sleepy hollow did, but the constant presence of the voice wins out.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I'm glad TO writers didn't listen to the incredible annoying Klaroline shippers and the Phoebe Tonkin haters. The show isn't perfect but now it's a million times better than TVD.

    ReplyDelete
  38. in what way do you mean more successful?

    ReplyDelete
  39. I will just assume they haven't updated it yet. Because otherwise it is pretty moronic that they are spreading 6 episodes in 14 weeks and it is a pretty ridiculous way to treat the biggest freshman drama hit they've had in several years.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Yes, it will be renewed. In fact, production has alluded multiple times it already is. But, as a side point, I wish Marc Berman would be able to put his bias aside in his reporting. Do we really need an unrelated mention of the Following every Monday? Or a completely arbitrary reporting of its renewal being 50-50? That is not only incorrect but needless fire sparking?

    ReplyDelete
  41. I'll email CBS and see if they can confirm the episode order.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I've dropped it at the end of last season and I almost never drop shows. It got too stale and repetitive. The procedural argument was just too much I felt. Still adore Stana Katic but not enough to keep me watching..

    ReplyDelete
  43. They thing is that it's pretty late to order more episodes. The writers' room has probably finished all the scripts.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Which would still be up from last week. I'll take any good news I can get.

    ReplyDelete
  45. TVD might turn around soon. I think the CW is starting to realize, through trial and error, that catering to shippers or marketing to them specifically doesn't work because no matter how much you give to the shippers, they will always want more. Many are harmless and only petition, but there are also a lot who harass anyone they disagree with. I've had to block people on Twitter because I will not get into fights about ships. I'm too old for it.

Did you notice how the promo for Thursdays episode of TVD went from being about Steroline to being about saying goodbye to major characters? The original promo included spoilers that were guaranteed to cause a ratings problem. The new one, in its full length, has people emotional about Jeremy leaving as well as Liz dying.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I watched the series premiere and that was enough for me to stop watching regularly. I've only watched the episodes that ABC has been releasing screeners for and that's because I write previews for the show.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I agree The Following will have a tough job to do and me too! Another show to watch! They are killing me!

    ReplyDelete
  48. It depends on what failsFebruary 10, 2015 at 2:57 PM

It seems like a normal monday, Apprentice's first hour was a clip show, that explained the drop.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I didn't know you had also stopped watching. That surprises me a bit since you were always a bigger fan of the show than I was!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Spectacular for Castle...no. Spectacular is NCIS in its 12th season with the numbers they are pulling in.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I was a big fan, but them ruining the wedding and Castle amnesia/memory loss storyline was too much for me.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I agree about the shippers. I watch a lot of shows and I only ship three couples. Shipping isn't the main reason why I watch any show. My problem is that some shippers are incredible annoying and take their shipping way too far (harassing the actors, the writers, anyone who disagrees with them, etc) and sometimes they get their way and the writers ruin the show trying to please them.
I had to block plenty of crazy shippers in tumblr because some people act really crazy about a fictional couple.
I think the CW is slowly going from the "teen network where romance is the main plot" to "we have a variety of shows about young people with different themes". The promotion is starting to reflect that and I hope it keeps being like this. I don't watch Jane or HoD but except for Reign and TVD all the other shows have made romance a C plot instead of an A plot.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Oh dear...Lord help us all....

    ReplyDelete
  54. there are more comedies and dramas past 7 seasons doing better

    ReplyDelete
  55. Exactly. The show lost one million viewers in it's first season. While TVD has slipped, it can say that it had a golden age; however TO never had one.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I really hate the "fx" they use when someoene is doing magic

    ReplyDelete
  57. Interestingly the "mythology" episodes fared worse even in S6, the two season's low episode were both about the Bracken-Beckett story. It's probably the other side of the syndicate coin. Castle stabilised it's audience when the syndicate airings started after S4, but IMHO a lot of new viewers are looking for the easy fun, not for the big drama. Mainly if you not necessarily watched the previous 2-3 episodes of that particular thread.

    ReplyDelete
  58. why isn't Scorpion listed under top 5 total viewers?

    ReplyDelete
  59. Because there are no ratings yet.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Marc and his love for Jane the Virgin starts to be annoying.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Lol at the guy and his comments on putting JtV on the loosers section xD.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Well at least FOX has Wednesdays lol

    ReplyDelete
  63. Ncis la 1.6
    Scorpion 2.2

    ReplyDelete
  64. Man, you really are a hardcore troll. You just won't leave the show alone. How sad. And it's all for nothing. The show has already been renewed for season 2.

    ReplyDelete
  65. It depends on what failsFebruary 10, 2015 at 4:04 PM

    Jane monday night anchor confirmed.

  66. It depends on what failsFebruary 10, 2015 at 4:05 PM

    AOS all over again.

    ReplyDelete
  67. well this i didn´t expect! GO JANE

    ReplyDelete
  68. Would you know how many will there be episodes in Season 4 Person Of Interest ?

    ReplyDelete
  69. It depends on what failsFebruary 10, 2015 at 4:05 PM

Castle the winner after some awful ratings.

    Higher Bachelor definitely helped.

    ReplyDelete
  70. TO doesnt deserve those rating even Gotham those show are absolutely fantastic!

    ReplyDelete
  71. Gotham is far from hit. Unfortunately I see 1.5 by end of the season , maybe even in 2 Wks when TV returns

    ReplyDelete
  72. Winners: The Bachelor, 2 Broke Girls, Mike and Molly, Scorpion

    Honorable Mention: Jane the Virgin

    Meh: Gotham, NCIS LA, Castle

Losers: The Celebrity Apprentice, State of Affairs, Sleepy Hollow, The Originals

    ReplyDelete
  73. Sadly, quality and ratings don't go hand in hand

    ReplyDelete
  74. I am finally ready to consider it a bubble show. I am not sure FOX will/ should bother now.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Half hours?

    ReplyDelete
  76. that is quite the drop , thx though :)

    ReplyDelete
  77. Also worth noting it had a 2.9 lead-in from the bachelor at 9h30.

    ReplyDelete
  78. It Has terrible retention

    ReplyDelete
  79. FOX is so lucky they have Empire

    ReplyDelete
  80. JtV did better than The Originals?

    ReplyDelete
  81. Same here! I don't like that it is at this level, even if it makes my other shows look better.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Castle was never compatible with Bachelor, so nothing new here...

    ReplyDelete
  83. Poor Gotham and Sleepy Hollow, both keep dropping.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Horrible retention for Castle. If ABC insists on dragging out another season, it has to move. It really should move now tbh.

    ReplyDelete
  85. It will might on how well The Following does.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I think Thursday death-slot can (and will) save it. Fox won't waste a rookie against Scandal & The Blacklist. And Bones can get back to Friday (where SH would get Glee ratings, instead). I think SH is safe, just to be thrown to the wolves next year.

    ReplyDelete
  87. At this point it won't do any better brct year

    ReplyDelete
  88. So probably it will adjust down to a 1.5...well, opposite to some people I never expected the ratings to rise because of the 2 parter (only the core fans would watch it), so okay...

    ReplyDelete
  89. 0.5/1.21 for TO. You were saying?

    ReplyDelete
  90. The Bahelor had a freaking 2.9 at 9h30, I am sure it helped a lot!

    ReplyDelete
  91. Dont care if the ratings of Castle are shit the episodes are great most even better then most episodes in S6.

    ReplyDelete
  92. wtf TO ??

    HH rating 1,2 and 0.5

    ReplyDelete
  93. JtV>TO-well that's some surprise!

    ReplyDelete
  94. Well, that shocked me. #RunJaneRun oh wait, that's Barry.

    ReplyDelete
  95. I'm glad Castle rose a bit-The episode was mind-blowing!

    ReplyDelete
  96. I think that is indeed its best chance but I am not sure if FOX won't just roll with Masterchef Jr | Bones instead and keep World's Funniest Fails + Repeat on Fridays!

    ReplyDelete
  97. the half hour ratings have no impact on adjustments

    ReplyDelete
  98. What the hell is happening with Sleepy Hollow????

    ReplyDelete
  99. Wow that is awful for the originals and sorry But well deserved gotham for slipping

    ReplyDelete
  100. I didn't know they were on Tumblr. I keep hearing about rumors that shippers started on YouTube. The more aggressive ones seem to be using that site as their format. I don't know why anyone pays attention to fan videos, but sometimes what's in the videos upsets people who don't ship the same couples. It's disturbing how far some people are willing to go over something that doesn't really matter.

    ReplyDelete
  101. I love it still but season 8 should be final.

    ReplyDelete
  102. I'm sad to SH and Gotham drop to their series low numbers. But i'm not surprised.SH season 2 is nowhere near the quality of season 1 & Gotham is not dropping their Procedural aspect.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Oh Boy!!! That's a drop for The Originals. Informed members, is this bad news?

    ReplyDelete
  104. Dear Marc Berman, I think The 100 remains the sophomore network series most worthy of a larger audience.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Bad direction.FOX screwed with it by making it non-serialized.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Victor Hugo G. SoaresFebruary 10, 2015 at 4:17 PM

    For Now.. probably not

    ReplyDelete
  107. It's done by next season. It's live ratings are not great

    ReplyDelete
  108. NO.For this season.
If this becomes a pattern, worrisome for next season.

    ReplyDelete
  109. And the are shows in season 2 like sleep Hollow doing far worse. So stop with Castle hate it was never a mega hit but it was always a moderate hit. It did its job for ABC and still the 2nd highest rated 10 pm show in ABC.

    ReplyDelete

  111. Wow the bachelor got a 2.9 in the last half hour

    ReplyDelete
  112. Says who? You. Since Paul sad he wants to see more years of Castle and ts still makes money syndicaton and book sales.

    ReplyDelete
  113. One questio: How can JTV have more viewers than TO when it got beaten in the HH numbers. Seems quite unlikely.

    ReplyDelete
  114. JtV rose in viewership in the half hr & also maintained that 0.6-Impressive!

    ReplyDelete
  115. Gotham had one it's best episode last night, shame it didn't rate higher.

    ReplyDelete
  116. At least they already renewed it.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Yeah, I was implying Thursday at 8:00 will be saved for teen-skewing Scream Queens (which could go either there or on Tuesdays), so that MCJ will have to stay on Tuesday or move to Wednesday. If SQ goes to Tuesday, instead, you may certainly be right, and MCJ+Bones can get the night. But I think Fox will try its best shot (SQ) on more remunerative Thursday.

  118. why do I even bother with Sleepy Hollow? Hope OUAT won't do like that :( so fucking worried... :'(

    ReplyDelete
  119. And absolutely NO promotional support by the network. None. Zero. Their idea of an ad for Sleepy Hollow is saying "Followed by Sleepy Hollow" at the end of a commercial for Gotham.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Are they thinking of cancelling the show?I'm scared a bit.

    ReplyDelete
  121. I don't think so. Fox has bigger fishes to fry ;)

    ReplyDelete
  122. Shocking for The Originals and Celebrity Apprentice

    ReplyDelete
  123. A very mixed night. Bad night for The Originals, Gotham, Sleepy Hollow and Celeb Apprentice. Meanwhile good night for Jane, Bachelor, NCIS LA, Castle, 2BG, M&M and Scorpion.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Jane did better than The Originals???!!! Really or am I dreaming?

    ReplyDelete
  125. Ouch Originals,good for Jane,let's see ifit holds.Good for 2BGs

    ReplyDelete
  126. If it ticks up, probably, if it slips further it is done

    ReplyDelete
  127. I really hope the writers for Sleepy Hollow have gotten knocked upside the head and get things back to good for S3. <<<-reverse psychology, positive thinking.
I think they got caught up in all of the praise they received for S1 and then got overwhelmed when they couldn't maintain the quality. Some writers are not good at long term commitment.

    ReplyDelete
  128. I feel like they accidentally switched TO and JTV

    ReplyDelete
  129. What the fu*king hell happened to Sleepy Hollow?!?!?!?!?!

    ReplyDelete
  130. OMFG That's a season low for The Originals and Jt beating it. Impressive. Really.
Gotham bellow 2's i hope it rebounds.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Viewers: number of people with age higher than 2 watching

    HH: percentage of households watching

As such, although admitedely unlikely, it is possible if Jane captured households which had more viewers. For instance, if two houses with just one person each would watch The Originals will count as two households and two viewers. If one house with 3 people in it would watch The Virgin it would count as one household and 3 viewers.

    ReplyDelete
  132. YEP! Castle always had its lowest ratings with The Bachelor.

    ReplyDelete
  133. I doubt FOX would throw Scream Queens against the big bang theory to be honest. I think they will prefer to have it against the voice on Tuesdays.

    ReplyDelete
  134. Okay thanks for the clarification! I thought it would be something like that. But is just the first time I saw that a CW (don't look to much into other HH can't follow all the numbers) with lower HH has more viewers.
    Thanks once more!

    ReplyDelete
  135. IMO the problem with Gotham is the amount of episodes. 22 is too much for this kind of show. For me, if it had 15 it would be perfect. There'd be no time for parallel stories and people would be happy to watch it. With 22, the show became exhausting and people lose interest on it. That's why the ratings are becoming low.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Since gotham has dipped to 1.8 in Demo i wouldn't be surprised if season 2 is last for gotham.

    ReplyDelete
  137. Jane the Virgin loser? Jane beat The Originals!

    ReplyDelete
  138. Do you really think so? I was pretty sure TV is much more young-skewing than TBBT, am I wrong?

    ReplyDelete
  139. Jane The Virgin got better ratings and better demo than The Originals...

    ReplyDelete
  140. Doubt it. Netflix pays 1.5 million per episode; the ratings may fall, but the show is making enough money to cover those falling ratings, at least for a while

    ReplyDelete
  141. Bad night for FOX and NBC.

    ReplyDelete
  142. Julie Plecs' shows are shippers paradise. The numbers are reflecting it now.Sad that The Originals is now much better than TVD but getting these ratings.Sad about Sleepy Hollow ...love that show.

    ReplyDelete
  143. So it can create shows like Forever with ratings like 1.0.

    ReplyDelete
  144. Get used to seeing Castle at 740 mil per episode, that's what remains of its viewers. These numbers have been steady since the winter hiatus. The only fluctuating is in the demo.and 1.6 is the highest since the hiatus, and the demo sets the standard for how much the studio can charge for commercials. 1.6 is not great.

    ReplyDelete
  145. I wouldn't say much more. The Voice has a 39% young skew whereas TBBT has a 35% one. So there is a difference but it isn't that huge. But my thing is that I see a Ryan Murphy show like that having a big overlap with a comedy like big bang than with an unscripted show like the voice. But even if you disagree with me, which is reasonable, think of it this way:
Thursdays: TBBT + Grey's Anatomy (also a young skewing and still very strong show) vs. Tuesdays: The Voice and nothing on the same scale as GA there (there is NCIS but that one is very old skewing so it shouldn't be an issue).

Additionally, FOX will presumably put Idol for two hours on Thursdays next season leaving Wednesdays to be Empire+New thing. Scream Queens is said to have 16 episodes for its first season and you wouldn't be able to fit all those in the fall schedule unless you double pumped it a lot, so scheduling on Thursdays would be kind of awkward .

    ReplyDelete
  146. 7.40 million viewers per episode, is the new reality for Castle. These numbers have held steady after the winter hiatus. The 1.6 demo for this episode is the highest since the break. This is a significant drop in comparison to previous seasons.

    ReplyDelete
  147. I do think some of the case of the week filler episodes to help stretch the episode order has hurt the show, but I think there are other factors as well, I think it had expectations that most fans, including myself, really wanted the show to meet...I would be fine with a 22 episode season, if most episodes were consistent.

    ReplyDelete
  148. I don't get it why is JTV is in the loser list and The Originals is not ?

    ReplyDelete
  149. Yeah, the expectations were huge for the show. That's a fact!!! I just think that it'd be impossible for them to do 22 consistent episodes. They have a great material to work and good characters too. I do think the show is good but it is a procedural show, so these fillers aren't helping.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Gotham continues to drop.

    ReplyDelete
  151. Also Sleepy Hollow is looking more and more likely to be cancelled.

    ReplyDelete
  152. Yeah i don't care about the ratings 2. i have just watch Castle from season 1 to season 7. The writer have still got it. It's even getting better with every new episode. And it's in season 7 and not season 1. Like some of the new shows aren't getting these ratings.

    ReplyDelete
  153. I laugh at people cheering that Jane beat TO, wait til finals people-Jane usually adjusts down when it gets 0.6.I laugh at people saying Jane should be an anchor next season-really?This is the same show doing more 0.4-0.5s this fall than 0.6& has already been under a million Viewrs once and might fall in spring as most shows do.Plus,Rember everyone's complaint that TO at 0.5-9.7 last spring wasn't string enough to be a leadin/anchor and HoD two seasons ago at 0.5-0.6 wasn't string enough to be a anchor either but Jane can with lower ratings than either TO,HoD?TO usually beats Janes except maybe this week-we'll see in finals-& people think Jane should be the anchor?lol,

    ReplyDelete
  154. Why are people thinking Jane can be an anchor next season?this is one week & it may adjust down in finals as it usually does and TO usually beats it.Plus people said HoD at 0.5-0.6 was too low rated two seasons ago to be a leadin and TO at 0.5-0.7 last spring was too low rated to anchor a night but Jane ,with more 0.4-0.5 s than 0.6& already went below a million Viewrs once, can be?

    ReplyDelete
  155. Anndddd I'm officially done keeping track of ratings for Sleepy Hollow. Well at least it only had one good season. Bye Sleepy Hollow, Sleepyheads will always remember season 1.

    ReplyDelete
  156. The whispering redhead. Mainly. Shrugs, oh well. Guess we can enjoy the last two episodes.

    ReplyDelete
  157. So, each point at a time. My numbers were indeed referring to the A18-34. They represented the % of 18-34 out of the total 18-49 watching the show. So my point still stands.

As for Thursdays at 8, I know FOX executives said they would put MCJ on Wednesdays with Empire but I really don't believe it. They must use Empire to launch a new show. It is insane if they don't. So I think it will be this:
Tuesday: Scream Queens | New Comedy | The Mindy Project for fall and winter and New Girl | New Comedy | New Comedy | The Mindy Project for spring (Zoey is pregnant so I fully expect them to reduce the number of New Girl's episodes)
Wednesday: Empire | New Soapy Drama
Thursday: Masterchef Jr. | Bones or Sleepy Hollow for the fall and then American Idol | American Idol for winter and spring

    ReplyDelete
  158. I really couldn't imagine those numbers for the 18-34 demo, hence my statement, but, as people say, there'salways something new to learn. :) Thank you for sharing those data, I think living in Europe gives me some sort of a bias in identifying shows' actual audiences. Do you have any data about those shows' (TV and TBBT) gender-skewing , too? Just curious, don't want you to look for them if you don't have them ready to hand.

As for Fox 2014-15 scheduling: I REALLY like your guessing for Tuesday, since it deals with most of what I found problematic about the scheduling itself. The future placement of SQ (which we discussed before), the MS replacement of SQ itself, the fate of NG considering ZD's pregnancy, and FOX's desperate need to test as many comedies as possible next year, given its fading comedy roster (which is something I often address to). So, chapeau, I couldn't have fixed it better. Nor could Fox exec, I guess.

Same goes for Thursdays, I'd just pinpoint that this purposed scheduling increases SH chances for renewal (which is what started this conversation), since it would be much easier to simply replace SH by doubling up AI than moving Bones in MS. So, between the two options you gave, I'd go for MCJ/SH on Thursday, and Bones on Friday (where it already proved to be a reliable player) along with a cheap reality and/or repeats.

Obviously, that is assuming what Fox exec said about MCJ was totally BS, which I can accept (although I can't understand why making such a saying and proving it wrong later on, instead of simply not giving any clue about the whole thing). And that lead us to Wednesday: I understand your reasoning (top rated show on broadcast --> lead-in duty, it seems mandatory), still I'm not completely convinced Fox will move an established player in a lower put level slot when they're already used to have established shows as a lead-out for new ones, e.g. SH for Gotham. Well, that didn't work (SH is struggling and Gotham's not the it it seemed to be), so you may be right.

Anyway, I guess this last decision mostly depend on pilot season: the only pilot I can think of that would fit there is Studio City. Should it be picked up, it might go as you suggest, otherwise why moving a succesful show just to provide an incompatible lead-in to a procedural or a genre show? Then there's the same question you asked me about SH: even with a shorter eps order (which everyone seems sure about, though I wouldn't bet my money on it), how can they squeeze them to make room for AI, in winter, if they put it at 8.00? Finally, if the shorter order truly happens, there's even the risk to see the lead-in advantage vanish once Empire itself has to be replaced (with something no compatible at all, since there's no other Empire/Studio City in their pilot roster). Definitely, I think guessing their Wednesday scheduling before pilot season is too much of a longshot.

  159. Interesting thoughts ;)

In addressing your question, the gender skew for The Voice is around 62% female whereas for The Big Bang Theory is around 54% female! Hope that helps out!

Regarding FOX schedule, I tend to agree with most of what you said, but just some quick remarks.

In what concerns Thursdays, remember that much like Zoey Deschanel, her sister Emily Deschanel is also pregnant, which could also imply a shorter season for Bones. So putting it Thursdays at 9 pm would fit with Idol taking over. But to summarize these are the options that I see for Thursdays (Fridays come by consequence):
    - Option A: Bones | Sleepy Hollow, with Fridays being Funniest Fails | New Unscripted and Masterchef Jr on the bench
    - Option B: Masterchef Jr. | Bones, with Sleepy Hollow either cancelled or put on Fridays with Funniest Fails
    - Option C: Masterchef Jr. | Sleepy Hollow, with Bones either cancelled or put on Fridays with Funniest Fails

I think A is somehow unlikely because I don't see the need to throw two dramas against the TGIT wolves unless they really have to and they won't have to since Masterchef Jr. is a good option and will leave the air soon thus having enough time to rest the audience. Between B and C I am not sure what is most likely to be honest. I would tend to believe that Bones has the bird in the one hand advantage of already being there and that FOX doesn't care about Fridays enough to sent it there for now. The fact that it has a likely shorter season also likely means the show would fit very well in there just for the fall. Like you said, if they put Sleepy Hollow there, it is hard to fit the whole order in there (although not impossible with some creativity).

Finally, in what concerns Wednesday, you are assuming that it won't be a year round show which I honestly can't believe. Empire is the biggest drama hit since the first season of DH. If FOX doesn't open its wallet for whatever it is that Taraji is asking to do full seasons they are crazy. And I don't see why Taraji would have such a hard time agreeing anyway, she was doing it for POI and I believe she likes Empire even more. So Empire would be leading into a new drama for the entire year!

  160. So much of these stats are based on soo many external factors. When I look at them, I can't help but think:
How many households have access to a particular channel? ex. The CW, ABC Family and MTV channels are not in a ton of households, like NBC, CBS and FOX.

Further, the demo chosen by a particular show....I know 18-49 is the popular one for advertisers...however, many shows may not be trying to cultivate that audience. Perhaps, they are trying to go younger or in fact older....so having the demo, without knowledge of the target, is slightly misleading. Not to mention, the demo group presents a very large grouping or age range and presents misleading issues...for me....

I find statistical data frustrating, especially as it can be read in sooo many ways to justify almost anything.....

But then I am not a numbers person, what do I know.
