So sad to see Tyreese go, but loved the misdirection at the beginning that hinted what we were seeing involved Beth's aftermath. Kept thinking throughout, "Okay WOW, this is pretty trippy" wondering if the writers were experimenting with a brand new tone for this back half. Gut-punch at the end to realize that a lot of those scenes were the perceptions of a dying character during his last few moments of life. Double gut-punch to see that blue knit cap draped over the marker.
Ahhh, TWD i know and love. Didn't let us catch our breath. And loved the hallucinations. They did it right this time. Knew Ty was going but wasn't ready for the arm being chopped off. Whow! Good episode all around. Love the talking between Glenn, Rick and Michonee. Poor Noah. I hope this is what we get for the rest of the season.
Probably sadder than the mid season finale. It also was like an arthouse film with the fever dreams. Hell of a start to the season. Hopefully Morgan now will be in the group.
Damn..........not Tyrese! Now we have who, Noah (damn he's pathetic) and the "Preacher Man" (just as pathetic)...........well at least we still have Michonne.............for now. 4 THE DEAD TO STAY WALKING JUST A LITTLE WHILE LONGER, I am still Nobody!!!
Every time Tyreese avoided killing (yeah, I know he beat down a horde with a hammer), I would get so annoyed, and my mantra was, he needs to die. Well, I didn't mean it. I'm sad, and shocked. Good episode.
Wow, this episode really hit me to my core. I think this is one of the most tear-inducing/raw episodes I have ever seen from the show so far. Bravo!
I never thought that the writers would kill off another fan favorite character so soon but boy was I wrong. Tyreese dying came as such a shock to me that I literally had to pause the TV for a few moments after he got bit in the arm the first time around because I was screaming "NOOO!" so loudly and tearing up because I knew that was it for him and trying to amputate his arm was going to be too late.
The dream sequences of the Governor, Bob, Lizzie, Mika, and Martin showing up by Tyreese's side, guiding him to the afterlife and telling him it's better now was so damn haunting. Also, the cinematography was absolutely phenomenal in this episode.
Michonne uncovering a new side of herself, being so vulnerable and insisting that they head on to DC was some nice character development. She really believes that they will find other people in DC and can settle down again. I would love to see this side of her again in the future. Also, I wonder if Morgan will meet up with the group in DC by the end of the season. Should be interesting to see if they do collide after all this time.
Poor Sasha. She is losing everyone she loves left and right. First it was Bob and now it's her only brother Tyreese. I just wanna give her a big hug. You can tell she's not doing so good.
Can't wait for next week! The journey to Washington continues.
This was a great episode! Maybe awesome even, but not a real happy way.... It started off with the burial and I initially thought it was for Beth. They got me!
I think the way the episode was executed was brilliant. It was a perfect goodbye to the big guy. Him fighting his inner demons and overcoming them despite losing the ultimate battle. Each vignette, each layer building on the next to mean so much more by the end. Tragic, but beautiful.
The bleakness of this episode was so powerful and even more disturbing when you think Tyrese is now at peace being dead. The tormented ones are the living.
Also somewhat sad is that the group may now be stronger if they can overcome this morose mind set that has taken over the group. Tyrese was the moral center of the show after losing Virgil, but his pacifist streak was a very dangerous thing.
This was a departure from the usual episode was is so gritty and grounded. This was a cinematic expression of emotion, of art. Kudos.
wtf? what a trippy, depressing yet great start to the second half of the season that continued the season of sadness/loss.... really liked all the images that came at you like a fever dream and the cool visions that Tyreese was having while he was in way fighting some of his demons.... Bummed that we lost the big guy, and thought that he would fill a role of sorts as Rick (in the comics) had his arm cut off, but at least we had Tyreese around longer than the comic book version.... rip, will miss seeing you swing that hammer..... man, Sasha is going to be all sorts of depressed after losing Bob and now her brother...
I guess I am on the fence with this episode. It was brilliantly done and wrapped things up with Tyreese's character very nicely... But I guess why? Why did he have to go? I suppose there are a lot of characters who don't nessacarily have a reason for dying, other than for 'shock'. It does make me wonder how many others will go before the finale. I have heard news of numerous others who will be coming back or new characters being added later this season. So I'm wondering how many others will be lost... I give the episode a 7.5 right now. But as much as it was a good senoff for Ty, I still think it's pointless.
Two senseless and utterly needless deaths one after the other - First Beth and now Tyreese. Both deserved better and all they got was unmemorable deaths. The writers destroyed Tyreese's character. Never knew what to write for him. He oscillated between one man zombie killing machine to total pacifist. He never could find middle ground.
UGH!!! Just UGH!!!!!
I had got my hopes up a little after being disappointed with a large part of S5a but it looks like it was all in vain. Back to saving the episodes and binge watching 5b when it ends.
Since the show hasn't followed the comics much, I don't think what I am about to say is a spoiler, but anyone who has read the comic or wikipedia'ed it found it interesting how Glenn picks up a baseball bat - the very same weapon that kills him. I wonder if we'll see a certain villian soon.
from the moment he got bitten this episode was too overwhelming for me...This show eeds some character who would be like a break wfrom all the heavy drama, somebody who would make stupid (but funny) comments, its just feels like its too depressing sometimes.
What was that whole cutting people into half and getting the upper half into the car thing? Who did this and why? Any thoughts? Was that some random sh*t or they gonna explain it?
So sad, but I can't help but be angry at Tyreese's letting his guard down like that. Really? Why would you turn your back when there are zombies all around? I feel the same about his death as I do about Beth's. Another character who pulled a dumb move and got herself killed.
I wondered that myself. If you look closely you'll see that their foreheads are marked. The reasons behind cutting them up and keeping them alive? No idea! Hope they mention something about it next week.
I think the town was not overrun by walkers, it was humans that marauded through it.
Maybe it matches up with the radio broadcasts in Tyrese's head? Rebels committing horrible acts as the virus broke out? I wondered if when they ran through the town the decapitated and quartered all the walkers before killing all the living. Maybe it is setting up some group we will encounter or just another reminded that even in a world of the undead the living can be the bigger threat....
I have to admit, my first thought after watching this episode was, "Huh?" There were parts that confused me. Can somebody explain to me Glenn and Rick's conversation at the car? Was Glenn angry at Rick and then telling him that Rick should have killed Dawn before she had the chance to kill Beth? But later on, Glenn tells Rick that it didn't matter if Rick killed Dawn. So did Glenn just have a change of heart or did I completely miss his point to Rick? Also, I get that the girl's and Bob were telling Tyreese that it was ok to let go, but I wasn't sure exactly what the Governor and Martin's objective was? Were the girl's and Bob "Heaven" and the Governor and Martin "Hell"? I know people can be annoyed when things are spelled out, because sometimes it can come off like the writers think the audience isn't smart enough to understand things, but I wish last night's episode had a little more talking in complete conversations. I felt like some of the discussions were only partially spoken because the other person(s) in the conversation understood what the speaker was saying without it being said.
MY GOD! that was one Sad Ep Why did we lose Tyreese WHY! loved seeing to Dead coming back too him that was just great Beth singing Awesome just one heartbreaking Ep.
The governor told Tyreese, "I showed you who I was, and you refuse to see". Just like Lizzie, Tyreese was not meant for that world. He can rest in non-violence (I know that's not a proper sentence, lol).
Hopefully, no one! I was hoping Tyreese would survive when they cut off his arm! Man . . . I'm still upset about Ty dying. It was an awesome episode though.
Glenn is changing and he was telling Rick that if they were back at Terminus he would not stop and open the box to let that guy out. And it didn't matter to him who killed Dawn. Sorta of a what done is done. And it's making Glenn more hardened. I like the idea of Heaven and Hell. Martin and the Gov. were there just to torment him. And he saw Bob, the girls and Beth because in a way he felt responsible for their deaths. Re-watch and listen to what Martin is telling him about how he would end up dead because he was the kinda guy that saved babies.
My feelings about this episode is a little mixed. I think the show is trying to take itself too seriously and I was a little bored during the episode. Still, sad to see Tyreese go!
It was sad to see him go but I can understand this death and I liked that they spent the entire episode paying a tribute to his character. They are clearly going in some direction in the show that will again be very Rick centric and that will have him surrounded only by people willing to do whatever it takes. Hershel is long gone, Bob (who was always portrayed as a very hopeful and good guy) is gone, Beth (the youngest - hope) is gone and now Tyresse was the last person standing between Rick and no moral compass, which I believe is why he is gone. The interviews I've read with the actor also hint that was the reason why he was killed. So unlike with Beth, whose death I deeply disagree with due to all the potential that was there, I understand why they killed off Tyrese now. I am excited to see what is coming next.
That was on purpose here. It was meant to represent Tyrese refusing to see the world as it was and adapting. That was what the governor told him. It was fitting he was killed off like this instead of fighting heads on.

If Negan is coming down the road, then everyone needs to align their morality with Rick's . Can't afford to have people on your team yo-yoing from one moral compass to another.
Speaking of Negan, I sincerely hope that before introducing him, they do the 'No Way Out' arc of the GN. That is one awesome, tense and heartbreaking arc which involves walkers as the supreme threat.
Oops!! My bad. There is an arc named 'No Way Out' in the GN which occurs after the group has gone to D.C, settled in at a place called Alexandria and gained some measure of normalcy. Of course that normalcy and peace is just a mirage. If this arc is adapted for the show then the horrors that happen during said arc would make for some great and riveting TV.
Thank you, Omabin. It seems the writers are trying to show the difference between the "softees," or those who hold on too tightly to their humanity, and the survivalists - who either give up their humanity or else learn incorporate it into a larger skill set.
I agree. The interesting thing though is that the softees are gone, all of them. Tyreese was the last man standing. They had Gleen also, to an extent, but they also had him declare out loud that he was turned and that he was no longer a softee on this episode. Carol and Michone had their transformations long ago and Sasha and Maggie are consumed by grief right now so they aren't in a softee place. So they have the group entirely made of survivalists right now, which is certainly a very interesting set up.
Ack, I am getting so annoyed with Noah. He's accident prone and doesn't think. He got Beth recaptured and now Tyreese killed. I don't think he'll survive long, and if he does, he's going to keep getting others hurt/killed.
Well, I don't come here for spoilers, I come here for news and to see what other people thought of recent episodes of shows. That said, it's pretty easy for me to avoid spoilers around here.
I was actually thinking more along the lines of the ones who participated in those deaths directly, and are most at fault for them: Beth and Dawn; and Tyreese.
Yep, but I still feel some of what he did led to those things happening. It was just bad luck really, but I think he could have done smarter things. Whatever the case, I'm annoyed by him. Whether it makes sense or not.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Why Tyreese! Why!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm all sad now.
ReplyDeleteAmazing episode! RIP Tyreese :(
ReplyDeleteWTF did I just watch ... WOW !!!
ReplyDeleteSo sad to see Tyreese go, but loved the misdirection at the beginning that hinted what we were seeing involved Beth's aftermath. ReplyDeletewow...that was very shocking for the first episode back. The episode dragged a bit, but wow, that left me speechless
ReplyDeleteSPOILERS FOR ANYONE WHO HAVE NOT SEEN THE EPISODE!!!
ReplyDeleteProbably sadder than the mid season finale. It also was like an arthouse film with the fever dreams. Hell of a start to the season. Hopefully Morgan now will be in the group.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know what to expect going in besides carnage, aka the usual of TWD, but that was just brutal.
ReplyDeleteNoah needs to die.
ReplyDeleteAmazing episode
ReplyDeleteDamn..........not Tyrese!

ReplyDeleteSeriously, if you haven't seen the episodes you shouldn't have opened the page unless you're okay with spoilers.

ReplyDeleteThere should be another option in the poll called "Best mid-season premiere yet"...It was that good
ReplyDeleteI guess I am on the fence with this episode. It was brilliantly done and wrapped things up with Tyreese's character very nicely... But I guess why? Why did he have to go? ReplyDeleteSo sad, but I can't help but be angry at Tyreese's letting his guard down like that. Really? Why would you turn your back when there are zombies all around? I feel the same about his death as I do about Beth's. Another character who pulled a dumb move and got herself killed.

ReplyDeleteI think the town was not overrun by walkers, it was humans that marauded through it.

Exactly!
ReplyDeleteThose two characters got stuck inside themselves and forgot where they were and it cost them their lives.
Beth let her hatred override any concern for safety and Tyrese was caught in a moment of reminiscing about the peaceful past and his family.
It illustrates just how alert one has to be to survive in TWD world. One loss of composure for even an instant can kill you!
I have to admit, my first thought after watching this episode was, "Huh?" There were parts that confused me.

Whilst it was a really good episode, I'm sad to see Tyreese go. He was one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteI screamed twice : when Tyreese was bitten and when the Governor appeared !
ReplyDeleteDamn, that was an intense episode !
MY GOD! that was one Sad Ep Why did we lose Tyreese WHY! loved seeing to Dead coming back too him that was just great Beth singing Awesome just one heartbreaking Ep.
ReplyDelete2 death's in a row what's going on here? And who is going too be next?
ReplyDeleteAnother boring episode.... after the 3 first good episodes this season has been a crap.
ReplyDeleteYes they are the best ones:)
ReplyDeleteThe governor told Tyreese, "I showed you who I was, and you refuse to see". Just like Lizzie, Tyreese was not meant for that world. He can rest in non-violence (I know that's not a proper sentence, lol).
