I knew it was a trap it was good to see Claire but I think it's to late for her to be having seconds thoughts and if she starts to show it she might well be dead
Last week was more fun this was rather too much all over the place but than i am getting sick of samaritan and how they seem to get away every episode the white haired man is in. i like it better when there was Det Carter who went on to fame as star of EmpireFox but they still have root and zoe so lets get going POI
I think Claire will wise up and be the Mole that Harold, John and Root need to put a wrench in Samaritan. I wasn't expecting Root to ambush the guys that were taking Harold. I thought Harold was headed for another encounter with the evil grey haired man. Although I do think the grey haired man is really only a puppet and will be overturned as soon as Samaritan is done with him. Excited to see Root is back. I missed her the last 2 episodes. I do think it is unbelieveably that she fell for Shaw before losing her. Just like John supposedly fell for Carter just before she was killed off of show.
Bring back the young orphan girl genius that Harold is paying for in boarding school. The one Shaw felt a tinge of affection for when the girl hugged her. That young genius can add a lot if creative interest to the show. POI needs a little spicing up.
The first 30 minutes (ad-free) were pretty mediocre - this wasn't a particularly strong procedural style story, but the last 10 were really intriguing.
What we've seen now is that Samaritan has many more faces to its name besides Greer and Martine. If it can inject itself into society that easily, then that's what will ultimately give it power - and a few weak points to be exploited when the time comes.
So to sum up, the stuff we learned was great, but the episode itself wasn't as strong as its predecessors this season.
Claire being a trap. Check. Samaritan using that algorithm to control people? Check.
That being said, I really enjoyed the case of the week but I loved the Samaritan plot line. What exactly does Root know? Maybe that will be revealed in the next episode.
For a while the Samaritan seemed to me as the PoI version of the central brain from I, the Robot. But after M.I.A. and this episode it looks like they took another turn and started to merge it with the Foundation's Sheldon Plan. The Samaritan wants to examine the human reactions and behaviours to be able to control them, but they mustn't know about it, otherwise their reactions couldn't be predictable as a mass. I like it!
Exactly, i think a lot of people on other sites don't understand at all. this episode ended up being way better then it probably had any right to be. It was super arch heavy which Im always down for and didn't expect. the dark and chilling exploration that Samaritan has gone into is amazingly told. it makes no sense how good these writers keep getting. its a show where we the viewers are truly watching the birth of the true first Artificial Intelligence. Honestly if CBS had more shows with writing like Person Of Interest that go above whats expected of them maybe their dramas wouldn't get the stigma's of being boring procedural's or being for old people. And to people who say Samaritan is has gone on for too long, its only the second season with the Samaritan arch involved. The HR arch went all the damn way from season 1 all the way to mid Season 3 and nobody has a problem with that. Not saying the HR saga sucked or anything but lets be fair here.
Really great episode. Built up a foreboding mood throughout, and it's kind of scary to think of how well Samaritan is now able to manipulate people. It's getting people to actually believe in its cause, but of course, I do think Claire at the end begins to realize what's happening.

Greer had a boss in S2 to whom he reported about the course of their plan, but their true nature or identity has remained uncovered yet.
At the end of last season I thought that one of the plot conflict would be between Greer (who seems to be a true zealot of the Good Dictator image) and his superiors, who had their own agenda with Samaritan's power, but up till now it seems that I has been wrong.
Huh, I'm not exactly sure what I think. It wasn't a particularly strong episode.
The Claire part had some nice ideas but imo it suffered from being way too predictable, especially when there was so much focus on the USB drive (He could've taken the funeral parlor's computer and remove the Ethernet cable, e.g.) . I don't mind the actress playing Claire too much, but there's a lot of rather negative feedback on the internet & I have to agree that it probably isn't the best acting (but she's young, so she still has time to learn) - especially if it's crucial to the episode's success. I know Harold has a weak spot in his heart / human emotion but he really shouldn't have fallen for her story the 2nd time. Can't really believe Claire has been played by Samaritan so much she really believes they're changing the world for good. I mean, Samaritan certainly does good things as well, but I can't believe she's just buying it. Maybe Harold should've told her a bit more about the team's warm and fuzzy memories of encounters with Samaritan. ;)
The number case was a bit too predictable and linear as well, which hurt the episode specially because Claire's part had similar problems. There were some nice scenes and interesting aspects (I knew Samaritan was going for it, but it was nice to flesh out the problem), though.
To sum it up.. not really strong but still enjoyable.
I completely agree that this show's writers are the best, just brilliant with the plots, character development, and finding ways to bring out the humor in this amazing cast. I laugh at so many lines. POI is my favorite show on TV and then Game of Thrones. I am with you on many of your points. But, even I , a huge admirer of the show, am sick of Samaritan's presence dominating POI's storyline, sick of Greer( Greer has been around longer than Samaritan). I did not find the HR stories as dominating and irritating. I have wondered if the 10:00PM slot placement was a mistake in terms of the general public and ratings. People come home from work and sometimes by 10:00PM are too tired to give POI the attention it deserves ( and honestly, necessitates because of its brilliant, intelligent, convoluted,multi- line glorious plots.) A 9:00 PM slot might suit it better as the viewers are not already nodding off and can give its genuine pleasures better, more alert attention. I understand your defense of the groundbreaking aspect of the Samaritan plot but I cannot help but just simply be tired of it. Sorry, just me.
Great episode, better than previous one, but still not incredible as the "Cold War" arc. I think this episode is very clear that Reese and Finch cannot work alone, because Fusco help Reese and if not wasn't for Root, Finch could be in the hands of Samaritan now.
I don't think so... although, I did have the same thought as I was watching. It does seem like something a being as powerful as Samaritan should have noticed, doesn't it? Also, it would be an easier way to track Harold's associates than digging through his computer (which is what Finch had clearly anticipated and prepared for before handing the laptop over).
I think for all Harold's talking that he would leave Claire to Samaritan, he couldn't bring himself to do it as long as there was even a small chance that she was being honest. At least, he had prepared for the less favourable outcome, as well (wiping the computer and installing a beacon).
I was worried about Claire going back and saying that they (team machine) have a mole in NYPD that told them about Wynn's file. Then Samaritan could go back and track Fusco. Much the same way Samaritan found Grice after Shaw got away.
For the 1st time I didn't like an episode of POI. The case of the week was boring and the story with Finch was predictable. As soon as the assassination attempt failed it was clearly a set-up. I have faith that the writes will win me back. Was the MMA fighter a real MMA fighter? Random comment: Is it possible that the psychiatrist was put there by The Machine? She seems to be helping Reese and Zoe is a much more age appropriate love interest. It seems too obvious if she is a Samaritan plant and far fetched that she just happens to be there from a random, independent and well funded espionage agency.
The show didn't insult Finch's (and our) intelligence by making him swallow Claire's story hook, line and sinker. I was glad that Finch was so paranoid and suspicious. But Finch's biggest weaknesses are that he cares too much and he is logical. So, when Claire told him a logical explanation about Wynn's death coupled with a plea to save her life, he crumbled. But then again, he had already wiped his laptop which shows that his survival instincts were still alive and kicking.
The show also kept true to its buildup about Claire. When last we saw her, she was a willing recruit and in this episode, she has progressed to be a willing agent. Samaritan has already corrupted her. But there is a small fly in the ointment. When Claire questioned Greer about why she was shot (when it was not the plan), Greer callously replied that her death would have been for a good cause - leading to the first appearance of doubt on her face. Could she be a future ally? I hope so.
Number of the week was standard POI. Nothing major to talk about except the tie in at the last with Greer et al showing up at Fetch & Retrieve's HQ. So, Samaritan's Merger and Acquisitions program is still on going. And now it has access to an app that can make people more vulnerable by manipulating their emotions. Good times ahead.
Root - So good to see her even if it was so brief. What I liked about her appearance was Reese's hopeful reaction when he saw her. To me, it felt like part of him was glad she was back and part of him was hopeful she had some news about Shaw. What did you guys think about this?
Nice callback scene - Greer cautioning his tech operative to be careful with Harold's laptop. He should know because a laptop from Finch can never be underestimated as 'innocent'.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
HA called it it was a trap but regardless it was nice see Claire again but it might be too late for her have second thoughts

Matt Fowlers review on IGN summed it up well... Great! Samaritan is just awesome!
ReplyDeleteThis episode was pretty predictable.

I've always felt Greer is a puppett & there's someone even more powerful than him pulling his & Samaritans strings

Did fusco's research of Wynn's death expose him to Samaritan? Will they be able to track and eliminate him now?
ReplyDeleteHuh, I'm not exactly sure what I think. It wasn't a particularly strong episode.

Oh please, this episode was much better (and the story was more complex) than the previous one.

ReplyDeleteAwesome episode, but the Claire part was not so surprising. I only hope that someday she may see the truth.
ReplyDeleteCheered when Root returned for Harold's rescue.
