This episode had something for everyone: happy couples, callbacks to Season 1, families coming together, spectacular parties, reawakening love, maturing bar owners, first dates, and Norwegian food. There isn't enough time to finish all that's been laid out for this season so Season 5 is a must.
I was actually going to ask how it's possible that Zoe's already so far along while Wanda is still pregnant...I'm so glad they made fun of that themselves. :D
Funny thing, back in season one I loved Lemon and Lavon, their chemistry and all...now I'm just glad all that angst stuff is done, I don't really care for them anymore. George and AB on the other hand I just find plain adorable. :)
Well I'm happy that despite them not bother with mentioning it at all in the promo or the producer's preview, they actually addressed the Breeland history extensively! I was half expecting they'd pretend nothing ever happened. Alice sucks... Brick's reaction shots every time Scarlett showed up were precious. Zoe comforting both Lemon and Scarlett was great! I know Rose doesn't know the details and I know it's not the kids' fault either, but her whole dragging Scarlett all around town did kinda bother me. Though I think the epitome of having Rose and Magnolia stand there awkwardly in the end was funny... especially when a second ago with a buffer they were making plans and up for hanging out! (that made it a bit worthwhile... just a wee bit). HAIL Shelby! Brick confided in her, she was quietly supportive and discreet. And determined to love Magnolia and Lemon, which, lets be honest, is just such an unbearable task. (And also Brick loves Ethel. Aaaaawww...). That family meeting was great! Lemon feeling responsible for Scarlett was adorable. And I'm glad she wasn't blaming her in this at all. I wouldn't expect her to, but you know it was nice to actually see her say it too, and be willing to reach out to HER.
Also, while I'm kinda on this subject: yes Lemon calling Lavon to talk about her mom made sense storywise. He is the person she confides in when it comes to her mother. But I felt it was used more as a ploy to get them to talk rather than have them talking in a more organic way. I've never been 100% on board with the Lemon/Lavon, but it's never particularly bothered me. I'd say I'm highly indifferent to them. However this season I'm really not feeling it at all. Do I dislike it as much as I do AB/George? No... but I think it falls in the forced category. The "we need to tie things up and since these two have been in love forever we'll just throw them together" isn't doing it for me.
Speaking of: WAAAAAY too much AB/George. I can't sit through their scenes anymore without rolling my eyes. It totally drags down the pace of the show, because it is awkward and they do have to address it being awkward, and also Scott and Caitlyn's chemistry just doesn't justify the time spent on this thing... and I am tired complaining about this thing, but they're putting too much effort and wasting screentime to give the storyline credit, and I can't look the other way when the episode doesn't let me. So complain I will!
Eh who am I kidding. This love square has been a mess from the get to!
ZOE/WADE I feel they cut a scene in the Butterstick with Zoe and Wade there in the beginning... I'm glad that firstly the ladies of the town were knowingly engaging in some innocent flirting. And TWO it was kinda funny for Wade (and Lavon) to be so presumptuous and assume it was "real" flirting enough to hold a meeting over it! TeeHee! I was super relieved to see Zoe knew the flirting wasn't really serious (the promos and preview didn't make it look that way), but she should have been more explicit about she wanted Wade to do. It IS Wade she was talking to after all. She should have know better! I'm glad she coached him through the second time... and I'm glad she realised that some innocent flirting even from his side aint' that bad of a thing.
TOWNIE NOTES - Can I just say I'm falling in love with Cricket the same way I feel in love with AB in the first season... She's so super cute and adorable! - So glad they addressed the fact that Wanda's been pregnant forever. - Meatball's song sounded awesome! Not gonna lie... I'd love to listen to the whole thing.
The Wanda thing has been bugging me for a while now. Until this episode she hadn't gotten any bigger since the time jump in episode 1 even though Zoe was getting bigger. I realize the actress wasn't pregnant in real life like Rachel Bilson was when they filmed but they do make different size fake bellies so a characters belly can grow with the pregnancy. Wanda better have her baby in next weeks's episode because she should be at least 2 months further along in her pregnancy than Zoe is in hers!
It was such a nice change of pace, having Lemon deal with her family issues instead of dragging the useless drama between her and Lavon. Jamie King did a great job and I'm so glad that her character was so well developed from season one. Kudos to everyone involved in that.
I have really mixed feelings about AB/George. I love AB, she's a beautiful tropical fish and needs to be protected at all costs, so I can't really hate anything that she does, but this whole thing seems really forced. I want her to be super happy, she totally deserves some loving, but George Tucker is all over the place... IDK, maybe they'll grow on me as a couple like Lemon did.
Wade doesn't know how to turn the charm off, he and Zoe are so adorable this season, it only makes me wonder why was it necessary to keep them apart for so long. Their antics as a couple are highly enjoyable, way more than seeing Zoe with Joel (ugh) for almost an entire season.
Overall, this season it's HoD's best, I don't think it's going to be renewed, but it should.
I love George and Annabeth as a couple, they're just so cute together and it shows - like when they were clearing their schedules to make plans for their date (also loved that they used Lay Low's "Boy Oh Boy" here) to the actual date itself, they're just adorable, even though it kind of pains me to be that cheesy.
Also I'm still having a hard time suspending my disbelief when it comes to Meredith Monroe as Lemon's mom. I love Meredith Monroe, but sheesh she's only like 10 years older than Jamie King! It's no fault of her own, i think she's playing the character well, it's just too weird for me to get over, even though I'm trying my hardest.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

so are Rose and Magnolia like Zoe and Lemon?
ReplyDeleteThe show itself has never been shy to draw parallels between the two pairs.
ReplyDeleteNow that would have been screentime well spent!
ReplyDeleteRose got tall LOL
