So let me get this straight. Nick the Grimm is chasing this Manticore all episode whom he knows is a professional killer and also happens to be one of the most naturally dangerous wesen there is.
Hexenbiest Juliette overcomes this trained and powerful killer, owing to her new found powers. Understandable and reasonable enough. It was impressive and satisfying to watch.
Nick then comes home and finds that Juliette is not only safe and unharmed but that the terrible Maticore is dead from what is clearly a self inflicted wound. So Nick's reaction is to let out a sigh of relief and simply accept Juliette's comment that "he missed?" "HE MISSED!?" And Nick just accepted that explanation?????
The writers of the show clearly believe one of two things: that either Nick is incredibly stupid, or that the audience is for mindlessly accepting such a ridiculous resolution to the episode.
And none of that idiocy would have come to pass if Juliette had simply told Nick what the hell is going on with her in the first place. There is absolutely zero reason for her to keep this from him. I don't mind the Hexenbiest thing but this secret keeping nonsense is astoundingly dumb.
I'm guessing that now Juliette will decide she likes being a Hexenbiest. I don't blame her. It does mean she can protect herself. However until tonight she wanted to go back to being what she was. Again understandable. What is driving me crazy is Wednesday on the TNT Grimm reruns they showed the episode where Adalind lost her powers and stopped being a Hexenbiest So all I've been able to think is tell Nick. Get him to donate blood, or just have Roselee take some of his blood. Chug it down and no more Hexenbiest powers. What is this nonsense from Renard about how he doesn't know how to change her back? Maybe he's distracted by his wounds coming back, but why doesn't Henrietta talk about how to lose your Wesen powers? It was only three years ago guys! You can't have forgotten!
The bad writing in this show is really glaring. I still keep watching but man the resolutions to some of these episodes and all of the "secrets" and "lies" are really annoying and cheap. :(
Well Juliette can beat a Manticore which is one of the more impossible Wessen to kill that says something. I still think Juliette should level with Nick!
And I have no problem with that being the answer, but everybody is all "there is no way to change you back. Once a Hexenbiest, always a Hexenbiest!". If Renard called his mother or Henrietta and found out this won't work with Juliette, great. I mean they have to rule out all Grimm blood being able to cure Juliette, otherwise they call Truble or the guy she went off with for a transfusion. I don't mind that it might not work and I'm more than happy to accept any hand waving they want to explain why it won't work. I really am easy. I just don't want them to forget a HUGE plot point that is being shown in reruns RIGHT NOW and that consumed episodes and episodes of Adalind getting back her powers.
I NEED JULIETTE TO GET CURED OF THAT DISGUSTING DISEASE NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I see from the comments following my initial one that most people do not agree with me that this is a terrific plot change for Juliette's character. I was surprised at the reaction because for ages people have complained that the character was useless and irrelevant, but now she is a real force herself. That doesn't mean that she has become a force for evil, just that she has power now. I think the fan irritation about the old episode where it was so easy for Nick to take Adalind's powers and Juliette's being told she is stuck in hexenbiest mode is understandable, but I think the point here is that Juliette became a hexenbiest in a very unorthodox fashion and the old remedies are not applicable in her case. I am willing to wait to see how the writers explain the uniqueness of her predicament, as after all ,she turned into one unpredictably whilst under another hexenbiest's spell - she wasn't born one. Anyway, I would not get too reactionary yet till we see where this is all headed.
Im sure at some point someone is going to make that comment about grimm blood probably Rosalee since she is kinda the experts with potions. Juliette propably didnt mention it since she didn't know how exactly nick took her powers away since the only time when Juliette her about it is when nick mother shows explaining how the baby is so powerful, but nick mother never mentions the blood.
I honestly could not careless about Juliette keeping a secret we all know he'll find out eventually and it will be dramatic which is the point. There are other things about this episode i'm intrested Intrested in like if the counsel is going to strike back at nick or will it be the other way around, why did Henrietta agree with nick not knowing maybe she knows something about grimms and hexenbeast in the past and will Juliette kill Adalind next week ?
The writers seem to have this old fashioned attitude toward female significant others. I thought they'd gotten passed this when they finally sucked it up and let Juliette find out that Nick is a Grimm. Now she's too scared to tell Nick what's going on?
But for me, more than annoying, Juliette not talking to Nick bodes poorly for their relationship. If Juliette can't trust Nick in this...perhaps he shouldn't propose.
Will the song of major power convince Juliette to embrace her new found powers? Will the moron on the council who thought it was a good idea to send a hitman after the Grimm who sent the heads of Reapers home in a box have a hit put out on him? Will Juliette ever get her head out of her backside and tell Nick what is going on with her?
Am I the only one who thought it was NOT a coincidence that Fado sounded an awful lot like Fido when Lazlo woged? LOL!!! That was hysterical.
Really enjoyed the episode. Juliette's fight with the manticore was awesome. Seems pretty likely that she's going to stay a hexenbiest if for no other reason than to protect herself. The bounty hunter's performance as innocent victim was pretty clever. Woo, is bucking for detective. LOL If he keeps this up he's going to have more Wesen IDs than Nick!
I found it interesting that Viktor's approach is to blackmail Sean into hunting down and turning over his daughter. Loved that comment about ceasing to worry about how his family treated him in the past and focus on the present. Total BS but a nice piece of manipulation.
The promo makes it clear that I need to have a giant bowl of popcorn at hand when I watch. That is going to be FUN!!!
Did anyone else think it was weird that Rosalee and Munroe called Nick as soon as they got back? I would have thought that they would have left it for at least 24 hours. Going forward how are they going to make everyone fit in the scoobie gang? Is Wu going to die by the end of the season now that he knows?
And another missed opertuinity for openness between Nick and Juliette. I mean they went out of their way to tell us that it's next to inpossable to kill on of those scorpion dudes, however when Nick comes home he doesn't even ask her how the hell she killed it. As for Juliette then she could have told him the truth about her right after he asks if she's fine. But nope instead we get season one's lies and trust issues all over again. BORING! Let the cat out of the bag and so they can deal with it together. After all when Team Detective Grimm comes together they can face anything. Lets do that know shell we.
Juliet becoming an uber-powerful (despite being a newbie) Hexenbeast reminds me a bit of BTVS when Willow went from fledgling spellcaster to most powerful witch on the planet. I disliked that plot and I dislike this plot. Not every character needs to be supercharged for them to be interesting!
Also, Juliet, Juliet, Juliet! Why haven't you told Nick you are in beast-mode these days? The entire series has been about Nick being a different type of Grimm that is not out for every wesen's head and Nick has shown multiple times he is willing to go through hell tor you since he loves you, but you still feel you cannot tell Nick you are changing? Changing into something dangerous to yourself and everyone around you! Just sad and pathetic.
Outside of those aspects I liked the episode for the most part. The council rearing its ugly head is always fun. Reconnecting to Mama Grimm and the baby was nice. Of course when Adalind comes back to town everything gets chaotic and I am looking forward to that chaos next week!
Yes, that Wesen Council business has more to it than we know already because the two representatives did not seem to agree with the decision to put the bounty on Nick. Which leads us down the lane that someone or ones higher up on the Council has his or their own personal agenda or is in someone's pocket who wants Nick dead.
Regarding Juliette keeping her situation a secret from Nick, I found this article that quotes Bitsie that he's going to find out, and it will be pretty dramatic when he does:
Me as well... I think the endgame with the royals might be fun, but it is a very, very slow play and not keeping my attention. Most of the scenes feel a bit like place holders for stuff that will happen later. Just enough to remind people they are there in the background.
On the contrary, the Wesen Council is fun and interesting every time they are on the show.
The sad thing is that there isn't much story there, Wessen council enforces wessen law. Only thing I can see happening is Nick forcing them to change their laws or killing them all (either I don't really see happening). Yes The royals are quit boring at the moment but they could go much cooler routes with that. I think they should focus on the keys, the Grimm history and maybe the coins.
Completely agree! I've been wondering about the keys since the pilot and got almost no info on what is hidden where.
This stuff with the WesenRein went on too long for my liking. It's nice for supporting cast to have episodes that feature them, but it feels like this season has been more about supporting cast than the main character's arc.
The Wesen Council has plenty of potential. Councils are corruptible. People have their own agendas. People make alliances and backroom deals. Maybe the Royals even have a spy on the council? Who knows. Lots of possibilities though.
The Royals won't be interesting again until they kill off some more of them and start fresh (again). The RoyaIs are supposed to be intimidating and dangerous but they always seem more like annoying pests you can't get rid of. As for the coins, I'd be happy to never see those again.
I think the council has potential too, but I would rather get movement toward's whatever the show's endgame is. I assume that to be the keys and royals, but maybe now it is the baby or the Council?
If the Council is part of the series endgame or even the season endgame I would like them to get deeper into the politics of it.
To be frank, I don't think this show's creators have a set endgame and I don't think they've figured out what those keys are for yet either. As far as the keys go, they've actually admitted at one point that they hadn't decided on what the keys were about.
As much as I hate to admit it, I think this is one of those "fly by the seat of your pants" shows.
Grimm has never been so exciting but one issue still bugs me like hell...isn't the blood of a grimm supposed to take away the powers of a hexenbiest like Nick did to Adalind in Season 3 by biting her lip? Do only the grimms know this piece of info, meaning that Henriette would not be aware of this method...
Same here... and we've come full circle to my beef with this show's writing. :)
I too enjoy this show for what it is. More specifically, I watch because I really enjoy the characters. If I was putting a priority on the storytelling aspect of the show I probably wouldn't stick around.
Since that common sense solution has been conspicuously absent thus far I can only conclude that Grimm will make up an excuse for that to not work on Juliette.
Agreed. I'm guessing since Juliet already has Grimm blood in her from when they reversed Adalind's cat scratch spell that they will need to go a different route.
I can't figure out if the show intends to make this a permanent change or not, but yeah. If the decision is made to get rid of it, I'm sure the process will be a huge ordeal.
Yeah, that was my first thought when she was screaming in the mirror. And, I think, one of the reasons they haven't had her tell Nick.
J: Nick, look what that spell did to me. (Juliette goes all Hexenbiest) N: Not a prob, babe. (Nick, pricks his finger and drops a few drops of blood on Juliette's tongue. Swallow that. J: Thanks babe. I'm all cured. (They kiss)
I thought that was adorable. Especially since Rosalee noticed how much Munroe loves working with Nick. He was trying to get into it when they Skyped on their honeymoon. So I didn't think it was weird at all.
I think as it stands that the gang is pretty nicely laid out and Wu is an asset. Here's my take. :-)
Nick & Hank - investigation team Sean - ability to cover things up, protect Nick and Hank from authority figures in other departments in addition to their own and able get them what they need to do their job (eg perimeter if they need to deal with a dangerous Wessen) Wu - first responder, buffer with other patrol officers (making Nick & Hank buffered from top and bottom of the chain), and able to glean more information from the research he's always done. (Long before Wu came close to finding out about Wessen I felt like he was bucking for promotion to detective. The fun thing is that he seems to be getting even more experience under his belt in terms of earning his shield.) Munroe & Rosalee - we all know what they bring
I think Juliette is the biggest question mark in terms of the Scooby Gang. I think the writers are aware that if they kill off Wu hordes of fans will attack them. But they have quite frequently felt at a loss as to what to do with her. She, I think, is in most danger of being killed off. :-)
I thought Monroe and Rosalee wanting to call nick as soon as they returned was cute as well! It shows how much Nick is part of their lives and family.
I like the group dynamics you theorize... Like you I'm not sure what to do with Juliet. I hate when shows make everyone super-powered as a way to keep everyone in the action. It's a cop out! At the same time I understand the need to make Juliet more than just a victim-in-waiting as well...
For a while I thought that she could make a good researcher at home base while the rest of the team is in the field. She showed off good investigative skills when searching for information about Nick's parents' accident. That role is a redundant now since Wu is in the gang and of course anyone can research in Aunt Marie's van. Reminds me.... When does that van become Nick's van and not Aunt Marie's anyway? The woman has been dead for years now. Claim it nick!!
Killing Juliet would add some gravity to the show and definitely add a level of danger to everything that I feel is missing at times. That said, let's be honest.... How much longer is the series going to go on? Is this the last season or is there maybe one or two more? Killing off Juliet may not be needed if the show only lasts a dozen more episodes or even another season...
I'm sure a lot of people refer to things that way, but it just sounds so foreign to me!
Dead people cannot possess things... Unless you believe in exorcisms and hauntings! XD
I have a blanket or three from my grandma as well, quilts I guess. :) I would say "The quilt that was my grandma's" or "The quilt I got from my Grandma" etc... Most likely though I would describe the quilt in appearance since there are 3 and all from her! XD
The problem with the Royals (IMHO) is that they sidestepped the reason the Royals came onto the canvas...The Keys. They allowed themselves to be distracted by Adalind and the baby. I've been reading this thread upside down...you mentioned below that showrunners never had an end game for the keys story, so it makes sense that they'd find place holders until they come up with something. But, they do answer those story questions (keys and coins) soon. (aside: my head is still spinning over the idea that the Royals are humans. :-)
Hmm, I guess you were right in the first place when you said Nick should claim the trailer. My grandmother's salt and pepper shaker collection are so ingrained into her identity for me. Rather than claiming them they are still hers. I added my first set to the collection and they're two different collections in my mind.
I'm not sure there is a right or wrong way to think of it honestly. I would bet the majority of the people think of it like you and nick! XD
I can see how some items are ingrained with a person's memory, but if I use them regularly I would think of the item as mine I guess.
I think it would be different for me to have more gender specific items that were passed down to me though. Something like jewelry I would always think of as that person's and not my own. Personalized things as well like a hope chest etc...
Some additional focus and direction for the Royals would be nice but it would still be the same people in the same roles. That's the problem for me. The characters they've created are underwhelming. The Royals should be formidable and intimidating but they're not. I spend the majority of their screen time wondering "why don't they just kill these idiots already?" I absolutely believe if Nick and Renard got together and decided his cousin had to go during his Portland visit that it wouldn't take more than an hour to get it done.
Let me put this clear, I liked Juliette transformation, this could be good for her character, but the fact that everyone around Nick is more badass than him bothers me a lot, where is the old Nick, the badass original Grimm of the first two seasons, I miss that guy. This idea of team Grimm is a bad idea for the development of Nick as the main character.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
well, looks like juliette is going to be a powerful hexenbiest like diana.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, I was practically jumping up and down when Juliette stopped the bounty hunter. This transformation is just awesome for her character.
ReplyDeleteSo let me get this straight. Nick the Grimm is chasing this Manticore all episode whom he knows is a professional killer and also happens to be one of the most naturally dangerous wesen there is.

ReplyDeleteThough it makes you wonder why Henrietta said not telling nick was good I wonder if there's a history with grimms and hexinbeist.
ReplyDeleteWhat if nicks blood is the reason why Juliette and Diana are so strong
ReplyDeleteWell Juliette can beat a Manticore which is one of the more impossible Wessen to kill that says something. I still think Juliette should level with Nick!
ReplyDeleteThere is a problem with adding Nick's blood. Adalind has incorporated Nick's blood into her spell. So I doubt the quick fix is available,
ReplyDeleteWhatever the reason for her saying that, I doubt she had Juliette's best interest in mind.
ReplyDeleteAnd I have no problem with that being the answer, but everybody is all "there is no way to change you back. Once a Hexenbiest, always a Hexenbiest!". Another great episode. Can't wait to see Juliette X Adalind
ReplyDeleteThat would be disappointing but not an unexpected route to take for this show.

detective. The fun thing is that he seems to be getting even more
experience under his belt in terms of earning his shield.)
Munroe & Rosalee - we all know what they bring
I think Juliette is the biggest question mark in terms of the Scooby Gang. I think the writers are aware that if they kill off Wu hordes of fans will attack them. But they have quite frequently felt at a loss as to what to do with her. She, I think, is in most danger of being killed off. :-)
I thought Monroe and Rosalee wanting to call nick as soon as they returned was cute as well! It shows how much Nick is part of their lives and family.
ReplyDeleteI like the group dynamics you theorize...
I have a few things I inherited from my Grandmother years ago. I still refer to it as "My Grandmothers..." :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm sure a lot of people refer to things that way, but it just sounds so foreign to me!
ReplyDeleteDead people cannot possess things...
Unless you believe in exorcisms and hauntings! XD
I have a blanket or three from my grandma as well, quilts I guess. :)
I would say "The quilt that was my grandma's" or "The quilt I got from my Grandma" etc...
ReplyDeleteHmm, I guess you were right in the first place when you said Nick should claim the trailer. My grandmother's salt and pepper shaker collection are so ingrained into her identity for me. Rather than claiming them they are still hers. I added my first set to the collection and they're two different collections in my mind.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure there is a right or wrong way to think of it honestly. I would bet the majority of the people think of it like you and nick! XD
ReplyDeleteI can see how some items are ingrained with a person's memory, but if I use them regularly I would think of the item as mine I guess.
ReplyDeleteLet me put this clear, I liked Juliette transformation, this could be good for her character, but the fact that everyone around Nick is more badass than him bothers me a lot, where is the old Nick, the badass original Grimm of the first two seasons, I miss that guy. This idea of team Grimm is a bad idea for the development of Nick as the main character.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your response. You make great points. But I still think someone in the team will die. It is the Whedon way.
ReplyDeleteI'm confused. Where does Whedon come in?
ReplyDeleteI think TV Logic is just saying that Grimm will follow the Whedon example in that way.
