It captures the spirit of Breaking Bad but it still feels like its own show. Odenkirk was great as always and I love Jimmy's brother on it. This should be great.
Gave it an awesome. It was a little slow in the beginning but they were just taking time developing Jimmy's character which in the end, was satisfying. Also, loved all the little references and clues they were giving from Breaking Bad throughout the episode.
The episode opening up with a flashforward was brilliant! Never thought we would get one so soon. And looks like Saul really is managing a Cinnabon in Omaha XD Just like he wanted. But aww at him watching his old TV ads and remembering who he once was before all the mayhem. That was sad. Also, I loved the song, "Address Unknown".
Mike!! So great to see him again and I can't wait to see how he and Jimmy begin working together. I have a feeling it's going to take a while to get to that point but I'm just enjoying all the little appearances he's making along the way.
The acting from Bob Odenkirk was nothing short of stellar. Seriously, the moment the courtroom scene in the beginning finished and the scene where Jimmy confronts the Hamlin Hamlin & McGill employees in the conference room, I was sold. He was awesome as Saul Goodman and he's awesome as Jimmy McGill. The man can do no wrong. Also, the final scene with Tuco showing up at the door was so damn surprising! My jaw dropped to the floor when I saw him because he is one scary guy you do not want to mess with.
I already love the relationship between Jimmy and his brother, Chuck. You can tell Jimmy really cares for his brother and wants what's best for him. Looking forward to seeing more of their scenes together in the future.
Vince Gilligan has done it again! With his beautiful cinematography and writing in this episode, Better Call Saul is the perfect companion to Breaking Bad. Can't wait to see episode 2 tomorrow.
Great episode. I thought the first 10 minutes or so were easily the best, what with the montage and the hilarious courtroom scene. And Odenkirk was fantastic throughout.

How great is Bob Odenkirk? So great, he really makes the role something special. It was terribly sad seeing Saul in his post Breaking Bad life though hey at least he got out alive right? I like Jimmy a lot because you can feel sorry for him, he has got a shitty life and he is trying to do best by Chuck (his mentor I guess?) but then he is a bit of a sleaze bag as well. Complex just how I like my characters!
AWESOME! Bob Odenkirk is fantastic and I have no doubt that this show will be a success. And I also know how great Vince Gilligan is and he will definitely do a great job!
I may go back and try again. Perhaps I just couldn't get into it post The Walking Dead. I was a little too...in my feelings. I changed the channel before the first commercial break.
I don't see a lot of hype and I'm kind of worried now, for the ratings too. It IS already renewed for a second season, but I really liked the pilot and I hope it does well.
How perfect is it that Saul drinks Rusty Nails? XD It just seems like a perfect fit to him for some reason....
The opening montage was tragic! The "great" and powerful Saul ends up at a Cinnabon worrying about which customer may be the one sent to kill him! Ouch!
I missed the cinematography of Breaking Bad! No other show had such interesting, creative and fun camera angles, but now BCS is bringing it back! Huzzah!
I was not sure what to make of the Better Call Saul concept at first, but this pilot put all my concerns to rest. It showed us the beginning of the man that will become Saul Goodman and showed us the downfall of that man in the same episode. Quite an accomplishment. The writing is tight, the acting is on point and the story was as unique and engaging as Breaking Bad was for me.
I thought this new beginning was great. The part that really made me convinced this show will most likely live up to its potential was when Saul was in the diner with the couple. Odenkirk's acting in that scene was perfect, his facial expressions while the husband was about to sign were just amazing. Breathtaking cinematography as well. Mike, I missed you a lot!
Wonderful episode! Brilliant opening scene. Brilliant caper-gone-sideways to close it out.
All the talk about color theory and I can't get past his car, Yellow with a red panel.... I'm aware that this is intentional, but I'm not quite sure what it means... time for a refresher.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
It was AWESOME!!!! It does a great job of being its own show without feeling too much like Breaking Bad.

Other than the depressing intro showing Saul's post-Breaking Bad life, I thoroughly enjoyed the episode.
ReplyDeleteAnd that ending... TIGHT!
Loved it

ReplyDeleteOh and Tuco! Nice to see it all connecting.
Great pilot-Promising start with frequent nod to it's parent series & even better ending!
ReplyDeleteBob killed it in this one. Can't wait for the next one!
Hhmm... it was OK... I didn't love it...
ReplyDeleteI don't think I was as enthusiastic about it as you, but I definitely agree with your positive points.

Mwah, perfection. My fears were quelled upon the opening scene. Bravo.

Finally watched it. It was awesome.
ReplyDeleteThe end made the episode go from decent to great!
