New Girl - Review - "Swuit"
Last night's episode of New Girl felt like it moved the direction of the show a little further with Nick and Schmidt's slapstick routine as well as Cece's choice to enter into a partnership with Winston and Coach, but not as far as I would have liked to see as we head into the spring season and eventual finale. Thankfully, no one can say that the show is like it was last season. The gang is back to their usual antics, Winston started his career, Nick and Schmidt are utilizing both of their strengths, and Jess is still with Ryan. I imagine some things will change the direction of the show, much like Kai having "the talk" with Nick at the close of tonight's episode. I wonder if this is the season that will define the characters as people and what the rest of their respective futures look like. However, the show has been doing steady in the ratings and I imagine if/when the show is picked up for next season, the gang will be back at it again like nothing ever changed.
Now, to the "swuit!" I thought the gimmick of tonight's episode, a meeting with Lori Greiner, was funny, but not as riveting as the chief inspector meeting with the gang in the loft to see if Winston was fit to be a cop. Everyone was able to showcase their eccentricities as well as make some cash, with Greiner offering Nick and Schmidt $10,000 to get rid of the suit. I've got to say, I would love to try on a swuit, just to feel what the material is like and if it's as comfortable as it looks. It reminded me of Barney Stinson's suit pajamas from How I Met Your Mother. Meanwhile, Cece hit a wall after Winston and Coach decided to invest in her future by attending her class on historical British art. They wanted her to invest her time in something more applicable in the real world and gave her a hard time about her choice in academics. Luckily, the guys saw the errors of their ways and gave Cece a book on for one of her classes.
The ending of the episode set things in motion for next week, Nick reeling from his break-up with Kai (over him having too much ambition!) as well as Jess finding out that Cece is in need of money. I loved the final touch of the guys sitting at the bar, hating on the jukebox, only to partake in singing "Taking Care of Business" (and Working Overtime!) Until next week, let me know what you thought of tonight's episode in the comments below and tune in next Tuesday for an all-new New Girl.
