Madam Secretary - Whisper of the Ax - Advance Preview: "We have a mole"

After a long hiatus, Madam Secretary returns with all-new episodes beginning Sunday, March 1. The episode, titled "Whisper of the Ax", will be the first of seven new episodes in a row. More importantly, it is part 1 of a three-episode event. CBS was kind enough to give us a screener of the episode, so here is an exclusive advance preview of "Whisper of the Ax".

Elizabeth and her staff are discussing whether or not to cut a microloan program. The program is meant for people to loan money when they start their own business. Some members of the staff are arguing to cut it, but some want to keep it. This is all because Elizabeth has to appear at a Congressional Hearing where she has to justify the division of her budget. The hearing is led by Everard Burke, who reveals that the microloan program's director is involved in a scandal. Since the hearing is a public one, Bess is humiliated for the whole world to see. Elizabeth is mad at her staff for not finding this scandal, and she subsequently hires a precarious consultant named Michael Barnow. He advises her what to do next. In the end, somebody from Elizabeth's staff will be fired.

Also, the investigation into the death of Vincent Marsh continues. We learn that Elizabeth is working with Russell Jackson and Andrew Munsey on that. They learn that the woman who withdrew the money from Marsh's Venezuelan bank account is in Istanbul and arrange an operation to grab her from the street. The operation does not go as planned, and this leads Munsey and Jackson to believe that there is a mole. Indeed, it turns out there is a mole inside Elizabeth's inner circle, but whoever that is remains to be seen. I can tell you that the name of George Peters, who died at the end of the pilot, is also mentioned in the episode. There is a cliffhanger at the end, which will probably be resolved the week after.

That's it for now. Be sure to watch the episode Sunday at 8/7c and catch my review afterwards. There is a promo for the episode below. Also, at 10/9c the new CBS drama 'Battle Creek' will premiere. You can read my preview of the pilot here.
