After lengthy negotiations, Fox and Warner Bros. TV have completed a deal for a pilot korder to comic book drama Lucifer, from Californication creator/executive producer Tom Kapinos. As part of the deal, joining the project are WBTV-based Jerry Bruckheimer Television and Len Wiseman. Sleepy Hollow co-creator/executive producer Wiseman will direct the Lucifer pilot and executive produce alongside Kapinos, Jerry Bruckheimer and Jonathan Littman. KristieAnne Reed co-executive produces.
Based on the characters created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth and Mike Dringenberg for DC Entertainment’s Vertigo imprint, the TV series centers on Lucifer who, bored and unhappy as the Lord of Hell, resigns his throne and abandons his kingdom for the gorgeous, shimmering insanity of Los Angeles, where he gets his kicks helping the LAPD punish criminals.
The logline has FOX undergone an evolution toward a police procedural since the project was originally bought by Fox as a put pilot in September. Back then, there was no police work involved, with Lucifer coming to LA to open an exclusive piano bar called Lux.

Woohoo!
ReplyDeleteThe police inclusion makes me think of Gotham though. Is FOX pushing for this to be closer to Gotham then the source material? Perhaps hoping for a Gotham/Lucifer crossover?
Police produceral, seriously?
ReplyDeleteWhy do you insist on ruining everything with potential, FOX? Why?
My thoughts exactly, but if it works for them.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to this happening.
Well,it sounds like a possibility....possibly.
ReplyDeleteThis could be fun...looking forward to getting some casting news on this!
ReplyDeleteA FOX police procedural?
ReplyDeleteThanks but no thanks!
I don't want to be instantly negative about this. I was a little disappointed that Sleepy Hollow was a police procedural, initially, but hey, it works. I am a little worried, though, that maybe they're are altering Lucifer's concept to replace Sleepy Hollow as their "weird procedural" of the year (they seem to always have one, Fringe, New Amsterdam, Past Life) but I hope there's room for both.
ReplyDeleteA police procedural...damn it FOX, I was looking forward to this one. Sounds like a Gotham 2.0 (I dropped Gotham because I didn't like the procedural nature of it). I wonder if they changed it to be more like Gotham or to avoid what happened with Sleepy Hollow or a combination of both.
ReplyDeleteInteresting, but full of pitfalls...
ReplyDeleteDoing this without referencing the brilliant prequel that is Sandman's "Season of Mist" seem weird since the comic book was a direct spin-off to Sandman.
The police procedural element is a little uninteresting (didn't like Gotham, loosing interest in Sleepy Hollow), but in a twisted way works. Punishing evil-doers was what they did in Hell after all.
And how the heck are they going to pull of a secondary character like Mazikeen...
If you're going to make a show about Lucifer Morningstar, you can't really have him be a powerless Joe Schmo. And in the comics he's on the absolute top echelon of powers in the DC universe. But I can see him not using them openly to maintain his "cover"
ReplyDeleteyea that's be nice if can use them when others are not looking.
ReplyDeleteI admit I didn't know anything about this character, but with that name alone I expected great power. I just did a quick power bio look up, and dang I'm impressed.
Casting will be everything here. Similar to John Constantine, who was created to look like Sting. Lucifer was created with the image of another musician in mind. This time David Bowie.
ReplyDeleteI'm not familiar with this DC character, but he looks like Draco Malfoy in that picture.
ReplyDeleteBecause people unfortunately like to watch procedurals.
ReplyDeleteMark Pellegrino. Best Lucifer ever
ReplyDeleteyeah, while I am not a fan of procedural format myself, they do usually last twice as long as other shows.
ReplyDeleteWait you are not sold on this revolutionary concept that has never been done before? *sarcasm off*
ReplyDeleteSeriously, they make the hit of the century with Empire yet all they can come up with is another police procedual based on a comic book. Especially since we did see that these comic book based shows are not that much of a huge success.
Oh hey, a pilot that actually sounds interesting! Rare this pilot season.
ReplyDeleteso he will burn the bad guys to have company in hell?
ReplyDeletethink it will substitute Sleepy :(
ReplyDeleteWow. totally looks like "Lucius Malfoy". Jason Isaacs, please !!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for this show. Yet another comic book show with more and more to come. Sounds interesting and Fox has been doing pretty good with their other DC show Gotham
ReplyDeleteJust a FYI. It's only been ordered to Pilot.
ReplyDeleteI think Fox is tryingto find a utility player like Bones.
ReplyDeleteYeah Conservative Evangelicals are gonna have a field day.
ReplyDeleteNice! Hope it gets picked up and I hope it's good...
ReplyDeleteRight?! I've met 99.9% of the pilot descriptions this year with an indiferent shrug!
ReplyDeleteOh! Jason Isaacs... yes yes... excellent choice!!
ReplyDeleteMy ideal fancasts was either Neil Jackson or Nikolaj Coster Waldau, but Mr.Isaacs will do juuuust fine...
Or you know Marc Strong would be great too... But I just like hearing his voice... which is a perfect Lucifer voice if you ask me...
Oh you're right. Neil Jackson would be great too.
ReplyDeleteCould totally deal with this premise if they hire James Marsters as Lucifer.
ReplyDeleteIk
ReplyDeleteThat looked good, way better than trailer showed later.
