After taking last week off due to my birthday occurring the weekend prior (and having my friend Geo fill in for me,) I return with this week’s recap.
Previously on Justified: Boyd wanted to buy a shitton of Emulex, Raylan and Tim put together the purpose of the land Markum was buying, Katherine Hale threatened Ava over the guard from last season, Ava felt the need to get out of there.
Boyd and Ava are talking about weed growing. Ava is unimpressed and asks whether he still thinks Harlan is dying. Boyd thinks that becoming a farmer might be the thing to save their town and is surprised at how eager Ava suddenly is to leave Harlan. Ava is less than happy at the instruction she is going to be watched from now on. One of the henchmen calls and Boyd instructs him to tell all of their suppliers to only deal to them from then on. They pull up to the police check point they had been sitting at and pass through with little difficulty.
The officers go to inform Raylan and Tim about Ava’s demeanor before shutting down their check point. Raylan instructs Tim to find Albert (guard from last year) before he screws everything up.
Katherine is babysitting her grandkids when Duffy comes over. He’s not too pleased about their arrival. Duffy informs her of their plans for Albert, namely that they’re sitting on him, waiting to see if someone comes to talk to him. Katherine notes it will be a shame to have to kill Ava.
Ava has cooked a nice large breakfast for Boyd before rushing off to the salon. He tells her that she does not have to work that hard and she claims it’s cos she likes to keep busy, but promises fried chicken and sweet potatoes when she gets home. Boyd gives Ava her engagement ring back and slides it onto her finger. She kisses him and leaves for her job.
While driving she calls Raylan to tell him she’s losing her mind. Raylan comforts her by saying that Boyd would sooner kill three of his men than believe her a traitor. Ava asks over her options if she walks. Raylan says he can’t promise that she wouldn’t go to jail based on how minimal her info has been so far, but with better intel could give her a witsec life. She does not want that at all but agrees to meet with him in the junk yard in 30 minutes.
Rachel and Tim go to talk to Albert. Rachel is completely unconcerned that Albert lives with his parents. Upon seeing a maroon truck on the side of the road, neither Rachel nor Tim would be surprised if there was someone waiting for them at the house.
Wynn and Mikey are playing Scrabble and quibbling over the validity of one of the words.
Raylan meanwhile is left standing in a junkyard by himself; finally cottoning on to the idea that Ava’s scared and not going to meet with him. So he calls Constable Bob. Bob confirms that Ava Randolph is indeed Ava’s maiden name before Raylan sends him to go scope out an old hideout of Ava’s.
Ava is up at Limehouse’s asking him for a car. Limehouse tells her that running is a mistake and that they’re going to come looking for her. Possibly up at his which he is not looking forward to. Ava promised that this will be the last time she bothers him. The money she offers him and her ring won’t be enough to get the car she wants from him. Ava offers a piece of what Boyd took. Limehouse asks why she didn’t take that money to pay him with. Ava responds that she just wants to be left alone with no one chasing after her. Limehouse has her tell Errol where the money is in exchange for the car. Ava wants the car before the money’s location is revealed. Limehouse agrees as long as she is not playing him.
Carl arrives back at the house and Boyd asks if Carl got his task done. He has. Boyd shows Carl his plan and new henchmen chime in with exactly how dangerous it is going to be. Carl asks if the new guy is someone they can trust. Boyd says that trust is not going to be the issue.
At a dinner table meeting, Choo Choo tells Walker that the bartender is skimming. She comes over to ask if they need anything. Choo Choo asks for skim milk. Walker tells her that Choo Choo is joking. Walker informs him of the larger problem of people not selling their land which Choo Choo says isn’t a problem cause they can just kill them. Walker says they can’t do that too often since it only works when the people don’t have kin.
Markum comes in to quietly read the riot act to Walker and remind him of the expectations.
Boyd goes to meet with a new old friend. Zachariah points a shotgun at him and takes his bottle of pricey alcohol before shutting the door in his face. Boyd informs Carl that that is Ava’s uncle and none of the Randolphs have forgiven his family for how Bowman treated Ava.
Ava and Limehouse are going after the money. Bob sees them heading towards the downtown and calls Raylan. Raylan heads directly there.
Albert is visited by Duffy. He assumes that Duffy is with the hooker he hired. Duffy dismisses that theory and says he’s there to talk about Ava Crowder.
Boyd attempts to get on Zachariah’s good side by giving him a good deal of money. Zachariah is not overly thrilled with this trade. Boyd says that he was hoping Ava killing Bowman would have ameliorated the bad blood between them. After a little bit more chat, they seem to arrive at a talking point.
Duffy and Mikey are still talking with Albert, but not buying his story about feeling bad for Ava. Albert thinks that maybe Ava felt sorry for him after he lost his job and his pension. Duffy says that that excuse doesn’t work for them. Albert tells them he’ll say whatever they want. Duffy brings out a cattle prod (since TASERs have become too traceable) and offers him one last chance to recant. Cattle prod it is.
Rahcel and Tim are watching this on CC tv from outside the room. Tim waits for Rachel’s approval to go into the room. Albert claims that he was in love with Ava and didn’t want her to suffer any longer. Duffy decides that they should go leaving him to his hooker.
Rahcel and Tim enter the room. Albert asks why they didn’t stop Duffy. Rachel replies she thought he could tough it out. They offer to take him to the hospital and he declines.
Ava and Errol stop off at a hardware store to pick up a shovel.
Raylan tells Bob that Ava is his CI and asks Bob to take Errol outside the store. Bob goes up to Errol and asks over his car. Errol turns over his name and Bob claims he has an outstanding warrant. Bob threatens to call for backup. Errol asks to see the warrant, which is nothing more than a piece of paper with doodles on it. Bob TASERs Errol. Raylan tells him to apologize when Errol wakes up and to politely escort him to his car. Ava’s time to explain herself has come.
Zachariah tells Boyd he doesn’t want to do anything that will land him in trouble with the law and Boyd states he does not intend to get Zachariah in trouble. Boyd and his crew of about five men climb atop an old shed.
Raylan asks Ava what she was thinking when she took off. Ava confesses that she didn’t think, she just ran. Raylan tells her that she should be thanking him since she should have gone to jail had anyone else caught her as the best case scenario and dead as the worst. Ava asks if he’s going to yell at her some more or if she can go home to cook Boyd’s dinner. Raylan informs her he would like to keep yelling at her.
Zachariah tells one of Boyd’s men to be careful cutting into that old mine entrance because of the methane. They pay him little heed and get thrown off the top. Zachariah tells them that they need to let the entrance vent for a few hours before they can go down.
Calhoun and his hooker are in his office when some of Walker’s men come by. The girl leaves and they two men ask Calhoun to have a seat. The redhead tells a long winded story to Calhoun before informing him that he was the only one outside of their organization that knew which properties team Walker were after. Calhoun claims not to know and the redhead orders Choo Choo to level a starter tap. Choo Choo hits Calhoun so hard, he kills him.
Ava says she won’t run away the next morning and that Raylan doesn’t care about her. Raylan syas that he wants to finish the job they started together. Ava says that she wants a hundred grand and out of the country, not a Witsec deal. Ava says there must be a place in hell for a man who breaks a promise to a woman. Raylan says he isn’t too concerned. Ava kisses him and tells him to head out. Raylan says he had been thinking he’d stick around for a bit.
Next time: “You hired a bunch of mercs, they know a lot about killing….”
Death Count: 5 - Dewey, Jake Busey, Calhoun, and last week’s confirmation of the murder of the old couple in Walker’s debut.
