Well, that's gotta be in the running for worst breakup ever. Bad enough that you're dumping the guy, but then he might potentially die because someone is - I'm assuming here - trying to poison you? You're supposed to worry about whether you're going to say the wrong thing or if he's going to make a scene and refuse to give you your stuff back, not if he's going to go into cardiac arrest.
Because accidentally drinking her coffee almost killed him (or possibly did kill him), and personally, I'd consider that as a sign that I might not want to be with this person. If you haven't chosen to be in some sort of potentially dangerous profession, it's really upsetting to nearly be killed by breakfast just because your girlfriend has. Actually probably really upsetting even if you did choose to have a dangerous profession, but the point stands. I'd think that near-death experiences from the girl who just dumped you is probably the kind of thing that makes you feel like you've dodged a literal bullet.
Well, Elana whatshername did say that she doesn't think the person who wanted to kill Watson in the elevator was the type of person to stay disappointed for very long. So the threat of death to Watson has been explicitly made.
And if Andrew actually takes it for her, then Watson would be in a very similar situation to the one that Sherlock thought he was in with Irene pre-junkie-bottoming-out. It would go along with their penchant to put characters successively in parallel situations. Liu's been quoted recently as saying that Watson and Sherlock soon grow closer. And the promo for episode 14 says that an unexpected event sends Watson back to Elana. So it would all make sense in the context of what's been set up.
Hard for me to see that Andrew *almost* dying would have the same resonance. But who knows.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

ReplyDeleteOn the plus side, he might be glad that she broke up with him after this. Assuming he lives through the actual breakup.
