CBS today announced premiere dates for its lineup of original summer programing that includes the new drama ZOO, returning event series UNDER THE DOME and EXTANT, and the summer reality hit BIG BROTHER.
ZOO, a new drama based on the #1 bestselling novel by James Patterson, will premiere Tuesday, June 30 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT). In the series, a wave of violent animal attacks against humans begin taking place across the globe. As the assaults become more cunning, coordinated and ferocious, a young renegade biologist (James Wolk) is thrust into the race to unlock the pandemic’s mystery before there’s no place left for people to hide.
BIG BROTHER debuts with a special two-night premiere on Wednesday, June 24 and Thursday, June 25, both at 8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT. The Thursday edition, featuring the live eviction show hosted by Julie Chen, moves to its regular time period on July 2 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT). The Sunday broadcast premieres June 28 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT). Last summer, all three editions of BIG BROTHER regularly won their time periods in key young demographics and ranked among the summer’s top 10 programs in both adults 18-49 and adults 18-34.
UNDER THE DOME returns for its third season with a special two-hour premiere on its new night, Thursday, June 25 (9:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT). It moves to its regular time period on Thursday, July 2 (10:00-11:00 PM), following BIG BROTHER, forming a strong two-hour block of established summer hit shows. Based on Stephen King’s bestselling novel, UNDER THE DOME tells the story of a small town that is suddenly and inexplicably sealed off from the rest of the world by an enormous transparent dome. This season, Emmy Award winner Marg Helgenberger will guest star in an extended story arc, beginning with the premiere episode, as the town’s inhabitants figure out the Dome’s purpose and what it wants from them. UNDER THE DOME was last summer’s most-watched (11.32m) and highest-rated scripted program in adults 18-49 (2.8/09) and adults 25-54 (3.7/10).
EXTANT, a serialized mystery thriller starring Academy Award winner Halle Berry, makes its sophomore debut Wednesday, July 1 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT). This season, astronaut Molly Woods (Berry) discovers she has unwittingly put the human race on a path to destruction, and that she and mysterious stranger J.B. Richter (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) may be the only hope for survival. In its first season, EXTANT was the most-watched new scripted program of the summer, winning its Wednesday 10:00-11:00 PM time period in viewers (8.65m) and key demographics.

Marg Helgenberg is going under the dome? Let's see how that plays out.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to Zoo!
I'm excited to see Marg on the show can't wait
ReplyDeletei miss Intelligence so much
ReplyDeleteSo excited for Big Brother (my guilty pleasure) and checking out Zoo for James Wolk.
ReplyDeleteSo will this be Under the Dome's final season? Ratings have been dropping and will likely continue to drop. Same with the quality, although I remain somewhat optimistic for season 3. I heard the producers have a 5-season plan but I am not sure if CBS is willing to drag it out for two more seasons. If it is the final season, they should announce it as such.
ReplyDeleteNothing about Stalker?
ReplyDeleteAt least Marg is returning to CBS. She seems very happy to be at that network. First CSI, then Intelligence and now Under the Dome.
ReplyDeleteJune/July seems so faaaaar away.
ReplyDeleteStalker isn't a summer show.
ReplyDeleteI'll be watching all three scripted shows and reviewing two of them. I like how summer programming are becoming a thing now. A few years ago, my summer schedule was a wasteland.
ReplyDeleteExcited for Zoo and at this point even looking forward to UtD to see Marg once again!
ReplyDeleteIKR! Just a few years ago once the season was over nothing was on.It sure was a long 4 months with nothing on tv except repeats..
ReplyDeleteWhat shows will you be reviewing?
I'll be reviewing Under the Dome and Zoo.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for UTD!
ReplyDeleteGonna check out Zoo and maybe even watch EXTANT if season 1 is on Netflix in time
ReplyDeletethere are some unaired episodes and fans were hopeful to hear something about them.
ReplyDeleteMe too. I already watch Dome and I am looking forward to Zoo! I've also decided to catch up on Extant since it's been renewed and I was interested last year anyway and only decided not to watch when it rated badly and I thought it would be a goner.
ReplyDeleteUnder the Dome did fine for a show airing in the summer, at
ReplyDelete10pm, out of very low rated comedy repeats. Its numbers spiked when it
had TBBT(R) as lead-in and later when it had Scorpion airing before it.
In addition, the show essentially tied the season premiere of NCIS LA in
the same slot a week later out of a similarly rated Scorpion lead-in.
Yes, it declined a lot y2y but that's just because it had crazy numbers
in season 1. In fact, during season 1, it was the highest rated freshman show on any network that season which is unprecedent for a summer show. It set unreal standards in Season 1 that made the y2y comparisons with Season 2 look terribly. That doesn't mean Season 2 did terrible, just that it wasn't operating on the same crazy ratings level as Season 1, but it was still doing good in my opinion, given the timeslot.
Same here, I am quite happy CBS is progressively doing this. ABC also seems to be trying it this year as they have The Whispers and Astronaut Wives Club on (in addition to returning Mistresses).
ReplyDeleteI've also been thinking about watching Extant. Seems like a decent summer filler. The renewal was definitely a surprise for me.
ReplyDeleteAh, thanks for putting it in context! I guess I am just too focussed on the big y2y drop. So for a summer show season 2 still did pretty great and beat some of the CBS Friday and Sunday shows. I think it is also one of the youngest skewing CBS dramas. Anyway, Big Brother should be a sufficient lead-in for season 3.
ReplyDeleteYep exactly, I agree with all that. I don't have data right now about its age skew but my guess is that yes, it is younger skewing than most CBS shows (which isn't very hard anyway but still) which means it could be the one show that Big Brother could effectively help. The fact that they've placed it after Big Brother but not the new thing Zoo suggests exactly that: that Dome is young skewing and can take advantage of that but that Zoo is expected to have a skew closer to Extant and the other CBS shows so it is unlikely to benefit from Big Brother (hence the pairing with the NCISs)
ReplyDelete
