Banshee - You Can’t Hide From the Dead - Advance Preview + Dialogue Teasers
20 Feb 2015
Banshee Reviews SSThe town may have said their goodbyes to Siobhan at her funeral, and Hood purged himself of some of his pain during his encounter with Chayton, but this doesn’t mean that Trieste Kelly Dunn is going anywhere just yet. Sharp eyed fans may have already spotted her in the promo for this episode, which is only one of the scenes that she pops up in before the end of the season. As this week’s title suggests, there is nowhere you can go to escape the dead. They will follow you in your dreams, question you if you start to doubt yourself and watch over you when you are at your most vulnerable.
With Camp Genoa being shut down in a matter of days, and the groundwork all being in place, the heist is technically ready to go ahead. Only Job has doubts about pulling it off successfully, which are down to Hood’s state of mind, and who could blame him after witnessing what went down in the Redbones camp. They can’t afford for any of details on this job to go wrong, the stakes are just too high. But he’s not about to walk out on his buddy just yet, especially not after he finally answers his question from last week and tells him that what he needs is this job to keep him busy.
On the other hand, Carrie is someone who is having no trouble being kept busy this week. She and Gordon get to hear about Deva’s new friends and finally step up as parents and intervene in a unique manner. It’s great to see Rus Blackwell finally getting some action sequences in the show, the shooting last week and now a bit of a scrap too. OK, it’s not up there with the Burton/Nola showdown, or the Stowe/Hood fight later in this episode, but it’s a hell of a lot more entertaining than drunk and sorry for himself Gordon, that’s for sure!
Back in December Greg promised something special for this episode he directs during our interview with him. If you have seen the promo then you will have probably picked up on it already and have an idea of the effect it creates. Three of the characters wear cameras on their heads, then there are several ‘cover cams’ and the Camp Genoa’s security feed is hacked so that Sugar can co-ordinate between them all during the robbery itself.
It sounds simple enough, and indeed it starts out as fairly straightforward to follow, especially if you have had any experience with first person shooter gaming. But then things start to go terribly wrong, and the limited view the audience has on the whole situation will have you on the edge of your seat as the tension slowly ratchets up. It is a genius idea that turns the whole heist sequence into a masterpiece of direction and I would love to hear more from the team on how it was all put together.
Elsewhere, two of the regular cast make trips out of town this week. Rebecca is still stinging from the showdown her uncle gave her in public in front of the Black Beards, and in private in the form of Emily Lotus. While Kai is busy wining and dining his new lady friend, the petulant young business woman decides to take a trip to Philadelphia and to work out a deal of her own with the Salvadorans. Chayton has also finally fled Banshee after the manhunt for him intensifies. The FBI have lost track of him, but help comes from an unlikely source when Deputy King makes some secret inquiries in order to make up for her lost chance in capturing him last week.

Awesome preview Sandi. The 20 minute sequence is probably my favourite thing to have aired on tv, like, ever. This needs so many awards. It felt like about an hour went by watching it the first time around because the tension was SO high. It felt like I couldn't breathe for the entire sequence. The way it's shot is just amazing and I am teeming with excitement to be able to discuss it with everyone.
ReplyDeleteLove this advance review Sandi. I can't wait to see that 20 minutes heist scene. Nice to know that Aimee will back, hope she will give that informations about Chayton to Hood asap, like in this episode so he can go after Littlestone in next one. I wonder about Rebecca reaction to all her situation - she doesn't looked very happy in her last shot in last episode. This one is long (56 minutes) so I hope she will have some good scenes. And will she will try to "revange" on Kai for that he... well... somehow... cheat one her (lol!)?
ReplyDeleteAnd again (like last week), I have no idea about some of dialogue teasers, but will try:
“Well, you shouldn’t have done that” - Proctor? Or Stowe?
“Baby, I have seen every side of you there is – reckless, dumb and especially stubborn - but I ain’t never seen this” - Job?
“Everybody still breathing back there?” - Sugar?
“There’s only one way to lay those doubts to rest and it ain’t sitting around here driving yourself crazy” - Job or Sugar?
“Whoever he once was, he’s a stone cold killer now and he needs to be put down” - someone about Cheyton, maybe Aimee?
“You guys can’t just decide when to give a shit” - Carrie or Gordon?
“Where the fuck were you!” - Hood?
“I’m here to correct that temporary error in judgement” - maybe Brock?
“You don’t understand, we have a connection” - that new Deva's (boy)friend? sorry I don't remember his name
“It’s hard to shake all that history in one moment, trust me, I know” - Sugar? Or Hood?
Gah, I was excited about seeing the heist scene camera work when I saw the promo last week but now I'm super geeked! Friday can't come soon enough!

Cheers Bradley. Gotta agree with you, the heist is spectacular! The confusion and tension is completely unbearable at points, and it's something that you will definitely find yourself wanting to watch over again.
ReplyDeleteCheers VQ - I hope you don't mind me shortening your nick to that? It was a good preview to write, though very tempting to write a lot more than I did, it really is a wonderful episode. This season is just phenomenal imo, you keep thinking it can't get any better and then the next episode comes along and proves you wrong, lol. This show is the best thing on TV at present!
ReplyDeleteKai has been a little naive about Rebecca I feel, maybe he has never had experience of a scorned woman before? He sure did rub her face in it big time last week though, whether she was right or wrong herself he didn't handle it well, lol. She's got balls of steel that one!
You have five guesses correct, not bad at all :)
Ha, I know what you mean. I was very intrigues after Greg's hints last December as I knew it had to be something really special. It's amazing that such a simple effect can create so much tension, you really do feel like you are there. You'll be on the edge of your seat by the end of it, it's just like being 'In the Zone' when you've been gaming on the X-Box for a bit too long, lol.
ReplyDeleteYou have four correct, nice one! :)
ReplyDeleteI already watched it over once and will be doing so again today (Friday) or tomorrow. Really inventive and risky but done so well.
ReplyDeleteI'm not going to be able to watch this one live and it's killing me. Saturday night can't come soon enough.
ReplyDeleteUgh, gutted for you. It will be worth the wait though, that I can promise you :)

ReplyDeleteNot at all, Sandi:)
ReplyDeleteI love Banshee since very first episode and before season 1 ended I was totally crazy about it. For me in drama/action shows there is nothing betther than Banshee. In over all there would be too many shows I love to pick for my favourite or the best. For me for example Shameless is also one of the shows that are getting better and better with every another season.
Can't wait to Rebecca scenes (I think it's obvious she's my favourite).
Can you sell me some Aimee scoop? :)
Cheers, I am an extremely lazy typer I'm afraid, lol. My emails barely have any capital letter in at all generally, but I do try to not cut too many corner when on the site :)
ReplyDeleteI love a wide varity of shows, from fluff to hard action, but nothing beats the story telling in Banshee for me at the moment. Yeah, it's not totally realistic, but that's what stories are for at the end of the day, as long as they stick to their own canon/physics/etc without wandering off the beaten track too much then I'm good. I haven't seen the US version of Shameless, though I have heard good things. I caught some of the Brit one as some mates of mine were big fans of it, but it never really caught my interest I'm afraid. I preferred the over the topness of Misfits to that when it came to comedy as it also had a sci-fi element to it, and of course Iwan Rheon, who is an actor I fell for immediately. Love his work and I'm so pleased that he's doing so well on GoT these days :)
There isn't a huge amount to say about Aimee unfortunately. She feels guilty at having given Chayton that chance last week, and doesn't recognise the man he has become at all. I kinda hope there is a place in the show for her next season, but once the Redbones story is over I'm not sure how much the Res will be utilised.
Seven correct, not bad at all :)
ReplyDeleteNo problem:)
ReplyDeleteI love GOT too. I saw first season of Misfits, I liked it but can find time to watch another seasons.
I hope somehow they will manage to keep Aimee in show and she will not disappear as Kat Moody, after all after Nola and Siobhan death there is empty spot to fill. Best possible way... romance with Hood? Haha Lol.
